appearance - short but messy, spiky hair / green eyes / fairly tan / stands 6ft 1in tall / lean, but muscular; extremely fit and athletic / tends to wear comfortable clothes - jeans, khakis or cargo pants, long sleeved t-shirts or thermals - not completely fashion lame but not a maven either /
has a cross tattoo on his right bicep
personality - excellent detective, possesses an extraordinary sense of will / very laid-back and fun-loving most of the time / can be somewhat impulsive and/or arrogant, is both extremely intelligent and competent, and the only situations in which he exhibits irrational behavior is when his family or close friends is concerned / almost constantly displays some level of humorous behavior, and frequently makes light of tense situations, often making inappropriate jokes or comments / tends to be laid back, but is quite serious about his radio / doesn't see all things as black and white most of the time
Alex can be quiet and observant, and he is sometimes painfully shy with new people. His friends, especially the flatmates, they don't see it much because he's so used to them. He sometimes feels like he's not as vocal or in your face as others and easily shrinks into the corner. This is why the radio is so great; he loses himself, becoming bolder and adventurous. It's helped through the years as he's gotten more comfortable in his skin but it is still a good way to keep the life of a PIRATE RADIO JOCKEY secret, so to speak.
He is very passionate and emotional though too and a lot of that comes out in his writing and music, but even more so in his art. He is unsure of his artistic ability though those who see it think he is brilliant most of the time. It isn't something he wants as a career though; it is something he just likes to do, to express things and create. His music just hits him and comes out in flourishes. He plays piano and writes music but it was an accidental idea to set up the pirate radio that really let him blossom. Partially a middle finger to his father, but also a way to do something his own, something creative. And it can never be said that a show of his is dull.
Alex can be self conscious and thinks he has far more unattractive moments than not. He does the shy cover your mouth kid of smiling because he never got his teeth fixed so he has an overbite (which really? is SO freaking cute). He is bisexual but sees himself in a relationship with a guy more often than with a girl. He's slept with both and liked it but he never envisions long-term with a girl. He is pretty open and un-phased about sex, and though he has a crush on certain people he lives with, has never ever pursued it and would probably blush and die of mortification if they knew this was being written here.
history- Dexter and Jennifer, HS sweethearts who grew up together in Chicago, IL. She worked at Northwestern University and he was a local Chicago disc jockey who made it bit, starting off on the campus radio and later getting a nationally syndicated show as "Dexter Starr". He was a happy little boy and took to music and art when he was very young. He made friends easily back then and had made fast friends and did good in school, doing well in English, History and Art. Jenn was killed in a car crash when Alex was 11. He inherited his mother's estate and mostly it all just went in the bank for when he'd need it, in his trust when he turned 25. For a while his father couldn't deal with it and dumped himself into his work and Alex was left to tutors, family, and friends.
As he became a teenager he did what teenagers do and basically drove his father nuts. They were very well off, his father mingling with A-list celebs and Alex doing the same as his son but he got tired of it and while he wasn't exactly embarrassing his father, he wasn't exactly seeking to making things easy for him either. So it was decided that he should go away to school, to have some structure and discipline. Dexter didn't want military school but Asbury fit the bill.PREMADE -
THE PIRATE RADIO JOCKEY His first year was really non-eventful though he did make a number of friends and even had a crush or three. He played soccer and rather enjoyed not being anywhere near his father even if people of course still did know who he was. It was his sophomore year that his accidental idea came up and though slowly manifested, the birth of the pirate radio show was born. Alex had grown up around radio all his life and it was a bit sketchy at first, setting the show up in his dorm but to his surprise, it took off and is very popular. He will have people on here and there to liven things up and of course the SCENESTER has a more regular gig than most others. He also dated for 5 months of that year and started opening up though he was still more guarded that not. Alex was more excited to leave for school than to have to deal with the three months off during the summer and going home. Now starting his senior year, he is looking forward to his last year. He doesn't know exactly where he wants to go to school afterwards but he's not worried about it. He's not sure he wants to go into radio as a profession given his father but he'd still like to do something music or communications related.
