Freedom Force [03 Aug 2013|10:12pm]
In the wake of ever expanding mutant drama across the globe and at home, the United States government has reactivated the Freedom Force program, bringing together a team of mutants directly under their control.

The Colonel
Real Name: Col. William Abernathy

William Abernathy's family has a long history of serving in the military, and he was not different, proudly serving in the army and eventually reaching the rank of Colonel.  He was also a mutant, something he did not keep secret from his superiors. As his abilities were only moderate, this was not seen as escalating anything into a super-human arms war and he was allowed to continue to serve with distinction. This made him the ideal candidate to lead the new Freedom Force. Col. Abernathy is a straight shooter and a honest man, but he believes in the rightness of his government and the chain of command, perhaps a little too much.

Powers: Col. Abernathy possesses super-human strength (the ability to lift one ton under optimal conditions), super-human reaction times, mild super-human speed (able to run at 75 mph for sustained periods), and super-human stamina. He wears lightweight body armor and a sidearm.

Blaster
Real name: Joseph Franklin

Joseph Franklin grew up poor in Harlem, to a single mother. But he pushed himself upward and outward through education, and looked to heroes like Luke Cage and the Falcon as his inspiration, eventually becoming a police officer. His powers manifested in his early teens and he largely preferred not to use them, but occasionally made small concessions on that when lives were on the line. Though a young officer, he had already earned several decorations. The government was well aware of this, and made an offer to him to make an even bigger different and be even more like his heroes.

Powers: Joseph possesses the ability to produce powerful blasts of concussive force from his hands. Through training and careful application of this power, he has learned to use his blasts to propel himself through the air in a manner somewhat similar to flight, though he cannot use his abilities offensively when doing so.

Dove
Real Name: Madeline Collins

Madeline's abilities--some of them anyway--were obvious from the minute she was born, coming into this world with feathery wings sprouting from her back. But she was loved and accepted, and did well for herself in life. She pursued her own ambitions to help others, working for her state's parks department in the search and rescue unit. This garnered just enough national attention for the government to snap her up.

Powers: Though she does possess large wings, they are not the source of Madeline's ability to fly, instead being used just for steering and propulsion. She's actually a tactile telekinetic, able to lift herself and anything she can touch, up to the weight of a small car.

***
Blaze-Master
Real Name: Donald Connors

A former NYPD firefighter, Donald Connors used his abilities secretly to help in his job, a job he was good at and liked. He had no intentions of being a super-hero or making any kind of mutant waves. His fellow ladder crew were aware of his abilities, but to them it didn't matter; he was a firefighter first, a mutant second. SHIELD, of course, was already aware of him, and this made it easy for the government to recruit him for the Freedom Force project. Not his first choice of options... but he also had a lot of gambling debts, debts that they could make disappear and keep some leg-breakers off his back.

Powers: Donald possesses flame-generation and manipulation powers similar to the Human Torch.

***
Psyche
Real Name: Alica Macking

Alica is a former Secret Service agent, who used her powers in the line of duty and was a trusted member of the current and previous administration's personal security detail. Uncomfortable with some of the current shifting policies in Washington, she saw the offer to join the new Freedom Force as a way to prove that mutants were not dangerous.

Powers: Alica is a high level telepath, with all the skills implied.

***
Builder
Real Name: Alejandro Garcia

Former FBI agent, whose tenure was unremarkable, Alejandro declined to use his abilities while serving, believing it would draw undue attention to himself. The world being what it is, several highly placed individuals knew about it anyway. The offer to join Freedom Force was a welcome step up in further serving his country, though he remains somewhat suspicious of it all and what the government's further intentions were.

Powers: Alejandro possesses the ability to generate solid energy constructs, ranging from simple things like force fields and force bubbles, to more complex structures.

***
Gemini
Real Names: Lin and Ling Choi

These Chinese-American twin sisters formerly worked as private investigators in Los Angeles, where people didn't much care if you were a mutant or not, and they were pretty damn good at it, and they'll tell you that. They've agreed to work for the new Freedom Force in exchange for using the government's resources to solve a mystery from their own past...

Powers: At any given time, the sisters possess a wide variety of mutant powers, including super-human strength (class 75), super-human speed (770 mph), invulnerability, energy blasts from the hand, flight, and super-human senses. However, only one of them can have the ability at any given time. Fortunately, though, they possess the ability to trade the abilities back and forth, mixing and matching as they desire. They also possess a limited psychic link.

Big Girls Do Cry (Angst prompt, scene 3: depression) [27 Jan 2012|12:30pm]
The workout facilities at the Genoshan embassy were, fortunately, designed with its inhabitants in mind. Among other things, it included a punching bag that was designed to take one hell of a lot of punishment. And right now, Rikki was dishing that punishment out.

Her density was as close to maximum as she could get and still move fairly quickly, hitting the bag again and again with greatly amplified strength and durability, each time makin a resounding smacking sound. If she was aware of anything around her, she didn't show it. Instead, she simply focused on dishing out only semi-controlled violence.

Aliens Attack! (Action prompt, scene 7) [27 Jan 2012|11:43am]
Genosha

The island home to a large portion fo the world's mutant population was under attack. Not from rival nations, not from splintering factions from within, not even from the time-tested threat of Sentinels. No, this threat was far more extraterrestrial in origin. Aliens.

Skrulls to be precise. The plot to capture and impersonate Magneto, thus gaining sway over countless super-humans had failed, in no small part thanks to the psychic powers of Magneto's second-in-command.

But with the ending of that plot came the revelation that there were countless more Skrulls hidden in the capital city. And that called for clean-up from every loyal son and daughter of Genosha.

"It went that way," Rikki said, pointing. "Dammit, Angelo! How could you let it get away? You're a damn teleporter!"

Little more... little more...   there...

It was always a delicate balance, amping up her density.  Amp too much and it didn't matter how strong she got; it took too much strength just to move.  Too little and she wouldn't be strong enough for what needed doing.  And Rikki Cargill had never really been one for doing things delicately.  Just her luck to wind up with powers that required that kind of care.

To the shore and no further my ass!  We should be kicking flatscan ass over this!  Show them not to mess with us!

She let out a grunt of frustration, put her back into tossing the broken robot onto the pile with the others.  At six foot three inches, that was plenty of back.

Rikki wiped her brow with the back of her hand, sweating in the hot sun.  "Damn.  How many of these things were there?"

19 2011 19 53 Autosaved draft at 8:21:22 PM Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Dylan
Email: on-file
AIM (if you have one): on-file
Character Name:  Rikki Cargill
Character LJ (if applicable): anger_issues
Physical description (face, build, weight): a tall, semi-muscular black woman
Age: 18
Birthday:  January 15
PB: (If using one.) Dana Davis
Abilities: density control--from intangible to diamond hard, with an increase in strength and durability as density increases
Weaknesses and flaws: Hair-trigger temper.  at higher densities, greater and greater energy is required just to move.
Character location/Home: Genosha, Genoshan embassy
Alignment (villain, hero etc): not a villain
Relatives (living/dead?): Joanna Cargill (mother)

Backstory: Born to the Acolyte Frenzy and a Genoshan native, Rikki was born and raised on Genosha.  She fell easily into lockstep with her mother's fanatical devotion to Magneto and the Genoshan cause.  Taller than most of the other kids her age and aggressive even then, she gained a reputation as something of a bully, until one day, Gio brought her down to size.  They were five.  And the two were friends ever since.  It would not be the last time Rikki's aggressive attitude and anger got her into trouble.

Rikki's powers first manifested when she was thirteen, a temper induced stomp transforming into a high-density ground-cracking stomp.  Once the exact nature of her abilities were determined, she was schooled in controlling them.  She rarely finds reason to use her intangibility, considering it to be a "weak" power compared to being able to increase her density.  Her mother has done little to discourage this attitude, always riding Rikki that she had to be strong to survive, that only the strong had power.

Fanatically loyal to Magneto, but with a strong bullying and competitive streak, not too many people can handle being around Rikki for long stretches.  While she's is not exactly a "bad" person, she is certainly closed minded.  Her newest assignment to the Genoshan consulate is hoped to broaden her perspective.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: She will be joining the other Genoshans in NYC.
What are you planning to do with this character?: Give myself a chance to play against type, explore the other side of the x-equation, get involved in Genoshan/mutant stuff, kick ass, get her ass kicked, and generally flex my writing muscles some here.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: No specific plans, though she will definitely be continually revising her opinions of Andrew, and possibly humanity in general.
