Time Management
Paperwork had long since been signed.

The Grand Tour of all offices and apartments had been given.
Security perimeters had been poured over.
Discussion of additional hires was in the works, but not complete yet. And setting down her tablet, Janet declared they would not be completed tonight.

"Nope. Done now," she said. "That's all for tomorrow. But I've ordered a couple of pizzas to be sent up if you want to stick around."

Jessica does not like 'cannot be finished tonight' in general. Business is business, til business is done is her usual motto. Or it was. SHIELD was pretty friendly to that philosophy. Her new boss sets the rules, though. She can just make suggestions.

She's still a little annoyed, but trying not to show it, and attempting to settle in when the announcement is made. "Sure... pizza is good." She's gone through a lot of pizza dinners while burning the midnight oil.

"Great."

What's sent up to the penthouse definitely isn't Domino's.

One's a fresh-baked mushroom and ... shrimp pizza, with white sauce. The other ... appears to be made out of fresh fruit, cream cheese, and a pan of solid cookie.
"If you can't eat it, we can just order more," Janet says, handling the payments and plating a couple slices. "Anything to drink?"

Well, that's... different. Shrimp? Pizza. Cream Cheese... well, ok then. It certainly smells edible.

"This is great." she agrees. "I think there's still some coffee. I'll go with that, but feel free to get yourself whatever you like, obviously."

"Then I'll get the Chardonnay, because coffee was first imported into Western civilization as a work drink, and I have established how off the clock I now am." She'll bring both over cheerfully, sit down, and start on her food -- the actual meal slice first. The dessert slice will come after.

"Pft, coffee is the fluid of life." she responds, leaning against a desk once she returns from getting herself a cup of coffee, and starting a new pot, despite being off the clock.

She starts in on the pizza, the first couple bites are contemplative, the next couple less so. Apparently she likes it fine, just had to get used to it not being pepperoni on red sauce.

Janet seems very happy with this working out. "Doesn't give you any trouble with insomnia?"

"I have no trouble with insomnia. I revel in it. I get more done that way."

"I'd try to argue that it's going to catch up to you, but the way you move, I guess you can just keep ahead of it," Janet says, smiling between sips.

"Been the case so far. Then I just sleep all day on Sunday, usually. That and coffee get me through the week."

"We may need to think about schedules more later. I mean, what if I want you on a Sunday?" There's the slightest touch of a blush, and Janet looks into her glass for a moment. "Y'know, need you professionally."

A shrug. "Then I grab an extra large coffee, cowgirl up, and come into work."

She finally notices the blush, one eyebrow raising. Then gets a hint of mischievous grin. "Why, fond of cowgirls?"

"I'll admit there is a certain aesthetic appeal on top of that being good practical schedule-flexibility, yes." Janet finishes her glass, the better to look away for a moment.

A smirk at that. "A certain aesthetic appeal, huh?"

Janet straightens, holds her head high, and answers. "A very certain aesthetic appeal, yes. On its particular aesthetic scale, it can be done very, very well."

"Huh... so any particular aesthetic scales you prefer?"

"Many. That particular scale and closely related ones -- with thematic commonalities of tallness, some degree of darkness, and solid-even-on-the-curves-ness -- are the best for certain contexts, though." Pause, breath. "Contexts for post-sundown, off-the-clock situations especially, repeating the off-the-clockness for ethical reasons."

The raised brow continues throughout the explanation, then a bit of a grin. "Not exactly candlelight, but I suppose you did bring the wine and buy dinner, huh?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

More blushing. "I love candlelight, but in terms of whether I'd ever manage to flirt with you, it felt more like a fire hazard. And I can drop the whole line of reasoning right now if you prefer."

A sip from her coffee cup, obviously considering. "I suppose I'm not technically under SHIELD restrictions now. I'm afraid I'm just a little rusty on the whole flirting thing. Its been... long enough to lose track of how long its been. I'm finding myself wavering between not objecting, and finding myself a cowgirl hat tomorrow though."

"I'm not too up-to-date either; last time anyone saw me undressed that wasn't part of a theft was a while back, but I'm really happy with that spectrum of options."
