With 700,000 followers and counting, @shitmydadsays is becoming a hot commodity on Twitter. Its origin story is pretty simple. Justin Halpern, 29, moved home to live with his parents, including his 73-year-old dad, Sam, who says hilarious things on a regular basis. Halpern launched his Twitter account in August to record and share the gems that come out of his father’s mouth.

Among the most recent Tweets:

“You look just like Stephen Hawking…Relax, I meant like a non-paralyzed version of him. Feel better?… Fine. Forget I said it.”

“I hate paying bills… Son, don’t say ‘me too.’ I didn’t say that looking to relate to you. I said it instead of ‘go away.’”

“Nobody is that important. They eat, shit, and screw, just like you. Maybe not shit like you, you got those stomach problems.”

“Just pay the parking ticket. Don’t be so outraged. You’re not a freedom fighter in the civil rights movement. You double parked.”

Within about a month of launching the Twitter feed, Halpern was getting offers for book deals, and he’s now signed a publishing deal with Harper Collins.

Now, the producers behind Will & Grace (David Kohan and Max Mutchnick) are signed on to produce and supervise the adaptation of this Twitter success story into a narrative—a multicamera family comedy on CBS. Halpern will co-write and co-executive produce the series with Patrick Schumacker, which will be developed by Warner Brothers TV and already has a script commitment.

Also coming to TV is popular site TextsfromLastNight.com, which Fox is developing into a multicamera comedy.

Of course, this news begs the question: How will CBS change the title of “Shit My Dad Says” in creating a family-friendly comedy?

I guess they will have to call it Stuff My Dad Says? XD
