Welcome to Nowhere
Wherever they were, whatever they were doing, two men from different worlds find themselves in the middle of a rolling desert. While hills obscure some of the view, there seems to be a great deal of sand and not much else.

Well, aside from the faint smell of coffee and fresh baked goods off in one direction.

The Black Knight severs the head of a daemon, then parries an incoming blow from a thrall, who is then slashed across the chest and kicked away.

He is less than ten steps from Galam-Reth the Wrathful, poised to end this battle. This victory will mark a turning point in the war against the Chosen; he and Sersi fight back to back, covering each other as easily and fluidly as two halves of the same whole.

Eight steps, then seven, then six...and Galam-Reth has is distracted by a blast of fury from Ikaris and the other Eternals.

Five steps, four, three, two left before he can stand and declare Europe free of the Chosen.

The Black Knight lifts his sword to strike at the last step...and finds himself in the middle of a rolling desert. He barely avoids falling from losing his balance, but comes up ready to attack.

He doesn't know who the man across from him is, but this could easily be one of Galam-Reth's illusions.

"You do not fool me, Daemon! Your tricks will not avail you!" he yells, preparing to strike.

It had taken tireless hours of planning, preparation, and observation to get it right. Number One of the Secret Empire would be out in the open from a point he would be able to take him out permanently.

The director would have preferred to capture him but that wasn’t an option in this situation. Lester actually preferred it this was it was so much simpler to just take someone out than to capture them but he could understand why the boss preferred the capture.

He was standing on a rooftop across from where his target would soon be. He had the spot sighted where he knew the head of the Secret Empire would be. He had his weapon out which he was going to use for the kill, a toothpick. While he had other more conventional weapons he could use this that the advantage of being almost impossible to see going through the air.

The car pulled up, it would be moments now. Then all of a sudden he finds himself on his knees in the middle of a desert nearby a knight in full armor screaming nonsense.

“What the Hell is going on,” Lester screamed as he quickly dodged out of the other man attack with a roll before changing to a more practical weapon for the fight.

This is no Daemon, but it has skill. A thrall, perhaps. Very well, then.

Dane's strike misses, but before he can be unbalanced, he pivots just so, and is once again attacking, losing no momentum from the previous attack. He lances out with the Ebony Blade grunting in rage as he tries to deal with the being before him.

The smell of food is slightly distracting, and Dane's stomach wants to stop and refuel, but he locks that thought away. He can eat when this thrall is dealt with.

What an idiot Lester knew he was more dangerous with a toothpick than this guy was with that sword. Still he had to admit not slowing down at all after missing his attack.

He had grabbed a Sai which he tried to use to counter the Sword attack while his other hand grabbed a throwing knife. He was going to look for an opening to strike with if he could without kill the lunatic then great if not, all well.

This thrall wields odd weapons, but the Black Knight is not deterred. He changes stances and holds his sword ready, daring his opponent to make the first move.

"Come now, Thrall. Or has your courage abandoned you with your Master's departure?" he taunts.

“Are you a lunatic,” Lester just blurted out, “Or high!” Though to be honest he was starting to wonder if he was given what was going on.

Lester makes a feint with the sai to distract before throwing the knife at what appeared to be a weak spot in the armor of one of the arms.

"You are a servant of demons, and you call me crazy?" Dane asks, incredulous.

Dane moves to block the feint, and is very nearly surprised by the knife that comes at him. Still, his reaction time is better than that of average human beings, so he uses his sword to bat the throwing knife away.

"You are a skilled, Thrall. Many of Galam-Reth's minions aren't, so you must be prized. I'm almost sorry I have to kill you to get to him." the Black Knight says.

He lunges forward with his sword, trying to skewer the thrall and end this before Galam-Reth can strike again.

“Whoa, I nobody minion or servant,” Lester says not happy at being called that. He maybe a government operative but he was nobodies stooge.

He had to admit he was impressed that this clearly psychotic knight was able to deflect his throwing knife.

Lester is only just able to dodge out of the way of the lunge almost losing his balance. This guy was very good. Lester grabbed a fist full of sand and throws it at his opponents face to in an attempt to blind him.

The fistful of sand does, indeed, slow the Black Knight's advance. He doesn't have time to get an arm up mid-charge, and is suddenly off-balance, unable to use his eyes for a moment.

He automatically leaps to his left side, so as not to be directly in front of Bullseye in case there's another projectile coming, but he does lose his sword as he dodges away.

With the sword out of the guy’s hands maybe he can finally get that guy to stop babbling crazy nonsense. Keeping the distance between them and his weapon out and ready to strike with Lester starts talking.

“Are you ready to stop talking crazy, because I’ve got no idea who the hell you are or what the hell is going on and I don’t like that.”

Dane expected the thrall to press his advantage, to attack while he was blinded, but when no attack came, he wondered what was happening. He tried getting to his feet, the sand still irritating his eyes.

"Galam-Reth the Wrathful teleported me here when I was about to kill him. This area looks like a desert I know of, several miles outside of Thessyria. You should know all this...unless you are not truly a minion of Galam-Reth. If you are not, then how did you come to be here?" Dane asks skeptically.

He doesn't immediately call his sword back to his hand. Let the other man think he is now defenseless.

It still sounded like a lot of crazy but at least for now he had stopped trying to run him through with that sword.

“I have no idea what the hell you are talking about but I was about to kill the Number One of the Secret Empire by throwing toothpick at him from across the street and the moment before I could make the throw I was here with your crazy ass trying to kill me.”

He never let down his guard as he talked.

Dane considers this man's words. It could very well be a trick, but if it wasn't...if they were both two men who had been taken from their homes and brought to this place, what did that mean?

And who was responsible?

"Let's say I believe you for this moment. Will you work with me to determine how we've lost our course and try to get back where we are from?"

Lester though for a few moment think thing through, he wasn’t quite sure what to believe but it did seem wise to now have this man constantly trying to kill him.

“Yeah I think I could try to work with you to figure out what’s going on. I would have to guess that checking out where that smell of food is coming from might be a good place to start.”

Yes he was willing to work with him but that didn’t mean he was going to let his guard down, not even for a moment.

Once the pair have settled their differences and follow their noses, the scent of food is coming from... well, it would look like a combination kidnergarten classroom and kitchenette, but there's no walls, just a tiled floor, a couple of counters, an oven with no obvious place it might be plugged in, a chalkboard and a few desks in neat rows.
A mostly bald man is in the kitchen area, drawing a batch of blueberry muffins out of the oven and setting them on the countertop.

Dane's retrieved his sword and decided to work with Bullseye for the time being. Following the scent of food, they come across the man in the kitchenette.

"Who are you? And what are you doing in this place? Have you been stolen as well?" Dane asks.

"Certainly not Mr. Whitman. I am a manifestation of your joint subconscious minds, much like this place. You can't comprehend exactly when you are, so your mind fills in the details.... with sand, you see. Lots of sand. As for what I'm doing here, I'm making sure you get off to the best start possible. Muffin, coffee?"

“Start of what exactly,” Lester asked. He really wanted to get some answers because not much of what was going on made much sense to him. He still kept his guard up both from Dane and from the strange new man.

"Your mission, should you choose to accept it. And I do recommend at least some coffee. Its terrible where you're going. In any case, the simple answer.... well, there is no simple answer. The one that doesn't involve a lot of math is that the time stream has become disrupted. Most of the time a ripple in the time stream is no big deal... someone is late for a meeting, someone has turkey instead of roast beef, LeBron James goes to New York. But if a ripple is large enough it causes problems... big problems. Then one world's time becomes unstable, and makes the disruptions worse for the next world up the line, so on and so forth. Your worlds have both been hit by just such a ripple... and you've both become unhinged in time. I can send you back... but your worlds wouldn't be ones you recognize, and I doubt you'd care for the changes."

"Your wife, in fact, is not alright Mr. Whitman. In current reality, she was killed, along with Ikaris, during the Cthonic uprisings. Without their leadership, Zuras decided to take all of the Eternals to the outpost on Titan. They now attempt only to keep the demon rulers of Earth from infesting the rest of the galaxy. Neither you, nor any other human has ever taken on the guise of the Black Knight."
He pauses, pushing coffee cups and the muffin tin across the counter towards the pair.

"I know, you're going to tell me that its a lie. And you have an opportunity to turn it back into a lie. Or I can send you back where you will be a thrall of Cthon's that Sersi has never heard of. Its your decision."

Dane Whitman tries to keep the rage out of his expression. This man is lying. He would know if Sersi was dead. He knows he would.

"And what you're saying is what happened because of this...'ripple'? If I do not join you, then what you tell me would come to pass?" he asks.

"Oh, she recovered... Eternals do that. They just don't live on Earth anymore, in your reality. They left thousands of years before you were born a thrall." he explains, as if he could hear the Black Knight's thoughts.
"If you don't take me up on the offer, I send you back, the odds of fixing your reality decrease dramatically, you and Sersi will never meet, and you will live until the age of 37, at which point you will die from heatstroke and exhaustion in Cthon's slaveyards, after which you will be served for dinner to the rest of the slaves."

"Good, because you don't fare so well either. In your universe, your first outing as a baseball player resulted in a shoulder injury. Four surgeries later your right arm still never felt right. You never discovered your gifts, and because of it, Iron Man killed director Rogers. Tony Stark is now the director of the NSA, advised by Elektra... the plant of the Kingpin of Hell's Kitchen. Dane doesn't like being ordered around, or cornered, but currently, he has little other information to go on. For now, it would be best to follow this to its conclusion and get back to Sersi as soon as possible. The ache of being away from her eats at him already.

Dane steps forward and takes a muffin.

“That psycho in charge of the NSA that can only end badly and he killed Rogers if I ever get back there,” Lester said though the thought of himself as a plumber made him shudder and reach for his shoulder reflexively. He could not take the chance of living that life it was too horrible for words, a plumber, agh. He never wants to think about that again.

“All right I’ll play your game,” Lester says as he grabs muffin to eat or maybe use as a weapon for late he wasn’t sure yet.
