Who: Terry and ?
What: Terry takes a trip to Diagon
Where: Leaky Cauldron, then Fortescues and Flourish & Blotts
When: 27 November
Rating: Gen
Status: Incomplete

It took most of the morning to finish the essay on safe practices, but if Terry was pressed he would admit the essay had been necessary. He had a tendency to get overexcited about his experiments, and didn't always pay enough attention to the safety and well being of his surroundings--let alone his own person--and Granddad had made a good point that if Terry wanted to be taken seriously in the Curse Breaking world, he would need to prove he was responsible as well as talented. No one would want to take a chance on someone who willfully went about getting himself exploded on a daily basis. So, he'd buckled down and put his Ravenclaw roots to good use researching and writing a foot long essay well before the Monday deadline.

To celebrate, and also hopefully rid himself of the dregs of the hangover (a present from a night out with Tony and Michael the evening before--ill advised but worth it at the same time), he decided to head into Diagon Alley and peruse the new releases at Flourish and Blotts. It would also be a good excuse to stop by Florean's and get himself a white chocolate peppermint ice cream--the perfect flavor for four weeks before Christmas. Speaking of, he could start his Christmas shopping at the same time.

Feeling very pleased with his own productivity even with a killer headache, Terry changed from his pajamas into a set of deep orange robes, lined a warm fleece since he found Warming charms itchy for prolonged periods of time, and headed to the Floo. One quick ride later, he was tumbling out of the fireplace at the Leaky, accidentally knocking into someone and spilling their pint all over the front of their robes. Damned growth spurt, he still wasn't used to length of his arms and legs.

"Uh, sorry about that...I don't have the best balance coming out of that thing."

He didn't often go shopping, but seeing as it was Christmas soon, he thought he better make a start on the seasonal gift hunt. Which was why Oz found himself standing in the Leaky Cauldron that day. He was quietly enjoying a pint of Butterbeer, when something -or rather someone- tall and ungainly tumbled out of the fireplace and right into him. The pint was mostly a goner, but luckily he had his wolfy reflexes to keep him upright, managing to catch hold of the bar in time.

Tilting his head a little to get eye contact, he grinned up at the familiar wizard. 'Bootsie.' He should have guessed, the orange robes were a dead giveaway. 'No worries. Still not used to being a giant then?'

Terry rolled his eyes at Oz's question, just glad it was a friend that he'd accidentally almost smooshed. "It's not my fault my body decided to sprout another five inches in the last three months. Stupid growth spurt."

He signaled the bartender and ordered two Butterbeers, one for him and one to replace the one Oz had lost. It was the friendly thing to do.

"So what brings you out this lovely afternoon, Ozpants?"

'Hey, you could always give me the extra five inches.' Oz grinned, moving to perch on one of the bar stools, which involved climbing onto the damn thing. Everything was designed for average to tall people. Not mini people like him. Not that he was elf sized or anything. Just shorter than average.

As he was delivered a fresh Butterbeer, he wrapped both hands round the tankard, warming his fingers a little. 'Thanks.' The nickname had him rolling his eyes and he mused that all it would need was JD to walk in for this to be a spot on re-enactment of many a Hogsmeade trip. 'Christmas shopping, Boots. The highlight of my year.'

"I don't think there's a spell for that..." Terry's voice trailed off, a sure sign that his brain was working out a potential solution to that, and if action wasn't taken quickly Terry would be lost to his imagination, and might jsut end up blowing up the bar a little bit.

Luckily, the bartender brought the warm Butterbeer, and it was enough to snap Terry out of his fugue state. "Mine too," Terry agreed, taking a sip of his own beverage. "What do you think JD's sprog wants from her Uncle Bootsie?"

He recognized the danger signs when it came to Terry and his experiments, luckily the drinks were delivered before anything could explode or catch fire. The question baffled him momentarily. He'd never had to think about buying gifts for small children before. He knew Tig liked to get Mia things and his cousin, lovely as she was, seemed to sign his name too on whatever she made for the little girl.

'I don't know, maybe a bear?' Oz sipped at his drink. 'Not a real one, of course.' He'd made a list in his head of what he wanted to get his family members, but his friends tended to get more off the cuff presents.

"Maybe a dragon instead," Terry said. "I saw one the other day in all sorts of colors, and it blew smoke out of his nose. I think it flew too."

And if it didn't, he could charm it to. The little tot would love it. He'd almost bought one for himself, but at the last minute decided he was slightly too old for a plush dragon.

"Anyway, what's new with the Oz-man? I haven't seen much of you lately."

'See now that sounds more suitable.' Oz nodded his approval of the Dragon. If the presents Tig had bought for the little girl in the past were anything to go by; Mia liked colours almost as much as his Tiger-Lily did. 'She'll love it, I'm sure. Especially if it's from her Uncle Bootsie.'

Terry was the kind of person that children liked, as was Tiger. In fact there were a lot of similarities between Terry and his cousin, if you cared enough to notice. 'Me? same old thing. Working at the Ministry, playing with the band and making sure Never Land has a steady bassline pulsing out each night.'

Another sip of his drink broke up the fairly lengthy speech. 'How about you? I saw your entry about a hangover. How's that working out?'

"Of course she will. I'm her favorite," Terry said, though that wasn't true. Her Daddy was her favorite, but Terry thought he was a close second...maybe third. Whatever number he was, the dragon might bump him up a notch.

"I've been to see you guys a few times. You're brilliant." Terry wished he had some musical ability. but beyond being able to pick out a basic tune on the piano, he was hopeless. His singing voice, especially, sounded like someone was trying to drown cats. In other words, it wasn't pretty.

Terry finished off his butterbeer, and considered ordering lunch but decided against it at the moment. Now that Oz had mentioned his hangover, it had come back with a vengence. "MIserable," Terry said cheerfully, because his hangover was no one's fault but his own. "It'll fade soon enough. I hope."

Oz shook his head at the statement. Out of all the friends little Mia's father had, he was fairly certain that Terry would be up amongst the top ten favourites. But the actual favourite was aiming just a little too high. 'If you say so, Lofty.'

He blushed at the compliment and finished his Butterbeer. 'We had to do something, there was a while where we just sounded awful. But we switched things up and actually practiced and now we're back sounding half decent.' Oz wasn't known for being much of a talker, but when it came to the band he could probably ramble on for at least five minutes if allowed.

Chuckling a little at the cheerfulness of his friend, despite having a hangover from hell, Oz nodded towards the door. 'Better hit the shops now in case it kicks in again with a vengeance later.'
