All Hallow's Eve (Defenders)
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half".

On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others.

It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors.

It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest.

Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

In Los Angeles and Hollywood it could be said that every day was like Halloween. People were always dressed up and most were costumes. On Halloween just about everyone dressed up, not just the normal ones.

Zoey had been BOUNCING from the second she opened her eyes in the morning. She woke Mom up by jumping up and down on the bed next to her. Once breakfast was over she went to see what the other Defenders were going to dress up as. Zoey had picked out her own costume this year. She was going as a sorceress just like Asleif.

The day had gone by SOOOOO slowly, but now it was time for trick-or-treating. She bounced as she waited for the others by the front door.

	Asleif was still not entirely certain how she had let herself be talked into this. There had been something with "you have to come" and pouting eyes and... She was especially unclear on how the subject of the pink "princess" dress she had somehow managed to be talked into wearing had come up. 	As usual, Halbjorn is more or less oblivious. He's dressed like Halbjorn, and has spent the day in the training room. When he comes upstairs for food, the first thing he sees is... Svalin didn't dress up because Zoey had said she already looked like a Viking. That was good enough for Svalin. Not to mention in her normal clothes she could carry her weapons and defend Zoey and Lady Sydney if needed.

Svalin joined Zoey, Halbjorn and Asleif in the foyer. One look at her sister...in a PINK DRESS...Svalin lost all control and doubled over laughing.

	Griffen had been busy at his school. He was doing a project with some others and chatting with a couple professors. He had decided this year to dress up as a Klingon warrior so that meant hiding in his room for a few hours. Now he made his appearance and froze when he saw Aleif. He....will...not....laugh.
