Who: Santiago and Jolene
When: Uhhh nowish?
What:  Awkwardly exploring that whole 'relationship' thing.
Where: Her flat.
Warnings: Doubt it.

Life was good to Jolene-Lucille. Sure, she might have contracted a potentially deadly virus. Sure, she might have been hospitalized for days on end with her very life hanging in the balance. But if it hadn't been for those Death Eaters and their sinister plotting, she probably never would have met Santiago. Or, you know, maybe she would have eventually, what with her track record of broken bones and sprained joints. But it was way more romantic to think that maybe it had been fate that had brought them together in the hospital like that, wasn't it? Definitely. Either way, though, it all worked out in the end. Their first date had gone rather well, in her opinion. She had only managed to bump into the busboy once at the fancy restaurant he'd taken her to, and had even avoided getting any of the food stuck in her teeth or anywhere else on her person. It was a good night. And the dates that had followed were lovely too, though admittedly some of those didn't go quite so smoothly (there was a duck somewhere in Muggle London that was still wondering just how it was alive after being chased by a dog and flying dead-on into her face).

Of course she had been afraid that, after witnessing her terrible lack of coordination and grace, he would split just like Logan did. But alas, the second and then the third date passed and he was still owling her regularly to see her, and she was finding that she could very well get used to this sort of thing. Especially the kissing. Which, ironically, was what they were doing at that very moment.

Seated on the couch in her two-story flat, Jolene had her hands wound into his hair, tracing lazy patterns across the back of his neck with the tips of her fingers while their lips remained connected. Her eyes were closed, long lashes parting only briefly so that she could slide her teal eyes to their corners to glare discreetly at Ares, who, since they had stumbled onto the couch some time ago, and not moved from her spot right there next to the couch, watching with ears perked and her head tilted dumbly to the side. She even tried to nudge to dog away with her foot when she thought he wouldn't notice, but to no avail. Damnit.

He had always thought it very silly when he read in books, or saw in movies, or listened to on the wireless, about people forgetting what a good kiss felt like. Santiago had never understood that, because a kiss was a kiss, sim? There were different levels of kissing, of course, like sweet pecks or heated snogs, so he supposed it might mean that, but---no, why was he thinking about stupid things like this?

Back to his original thought---he had forgotten what it was like to kiss someone you adored (yes, he could not find another word for what he felt about Jolene right now), and yes, it was a tremendously good feeling. Santiago's arms were rightly wound around her waist and he wondered for a brief, fleeting second about how long they'd been there, but then decided just as quickly that it didn't matter.

He did, however, feel her movement, and Santiago pulled away only slightly (not even, he pressed his forehead into the side of Jolene's neck to remain close, but with a view of the scene) and grinned.

"Are we putting on a show?" he muttered in amusement.

She sighed defeatedly and followed his gaze back to Ares, whose tiny nub of a tail began to twitch when she realized that they were paying attention to her again. Jolene was about to explain that the dog was only like this because she'd never had a boyfriend over before, but decided rather quickly that that sounded absolutely pathetic. This man had already seen her at her absolute physical worst and had witnessed first-hand as she nearly murdered an innocent duck... there was no need to let him know that she was a social reject, to boot. Shaking her head, she nudged the pup with her toes once again and frowned when it failed to do anything but make it sway slightly where it sat. Like one of those inflatable clown things that came back every time you punched them.

She wished she could punch Ares right now.

"I don't know what's wrong with her," she lied, holding him against her and leaning down to playfully kiss the tip of his ear. "She's not usually so..." Words failed her. She wasn't sure what this was, exactly, so she just flipped a loose hand in the general direction of the staring dog and scrunched her face.

"But we can just ignore her," she was quick to add, and then after a brief pause, "If you want. I mean... we don't have to keep on... you know... kissing. We could do something else."

Shut up! her brain screamed, and she promptly snapped her mouth shut with an audible click. She was hopeless.

He was about to comment that maybe they needed to find Ares a boyfriend, when Jolene made her loaded comment. Not that Santiago believed that she meant to have it be so...there was a word for this, that it...oh, no, he could not think. His mind was just whirling with ideas, ideas that could be the 'something else' she had mentioned.

Of course, 'something else' could be making hot chocolate with marshmallows, but by the look on her face, Jolene's mind had jumped straight to the conclusions he had too. Which was...okay, it was becoming a bit more confusing now, because he had never exactly---well, he was a very religious person, and unlike some who liked to pick and choose (his sister, however, had made a mistake with her premarital activities), he had...just...followed the ways of the church. Which meant no sex. Everything before that was a bit vague, but.

Usually, from what he heard from his friends and co-workers, 'something else' was usually a hint and...now...he didn't know what to do.

"Do...you want to do something else?" Santiago asked, trying to grab some time. He probably should have mentioned to her that he was waiting until marriage for those kind of relations, but he'd never felt the need to tell her, because it just felt like Jolene wouldn't care or---and he didn't think she would, but now that the subject was apparently being brought up, he was worried. "We could do something else, if you want."

She sighed and twisted her lips into a puckered frown, fidgeting with a frayed thread in her shirt as silence stretched between them for a while. He was probably stunned into silence by the stupidity of her rambling, she figured, and chanced a look back at him, pausing when she noted a troubled expression residing there in his dark eyes. His question was a simple enough one to answer, but the way he said it made her suddenly unsure, and her answer was just as hesitant as his inquiery. "...yes?" It was almost a question. Because, to be honest, the 'something else' that Jolene had suggested was nothing like the 'something else' that he was anticipating. In all honesty, she had been ready to suggest a game of wizard's chess or something before he started to act strangely.

They were not on the same page at all.

"Well, I mean..." Her cheeks colored as their conversation took such an awkward turn. She felt like he was testing her or something and couldn't understand why. "...only if you really want to. I don't want to do anything you don't want to."

Oh.

Well.

He didn't know what to say. Which was a feat, for sure. Anyone who knew Santiago could tell you that he always had something to say, but he definitely couldn't come up with any words now. When he'd found himself in this situation before, well--some women found it 'cute' or 'respectful' or other things that Santiago found strange; it was what he believed, there wasn't anything special about it, to him. Other times they'd broken up with him immediately, which he supposed saved him a lot of trouble, but it still made him wary. He'd learned it was just not expected have the same kind of virtues here in England, the wizarding world, than back home in muggle Portugal.

But--he liked Jolene far too much to not risk it.

"Well--it," his arms didn't move from around her, maybe because he was nervous she'd be offended or take things the wrong way or--"I don't really want to...if that's what you're saying."

Suddenly, everything was very confusing. Santiago tilted his back a bit, eyes narrowing thoughtfully as he stared at her. At her very pretty face, that he would be honestly upset about not seeing anymore if she didn't like where this conversation was heading.

"I mean to say--" how could he--well, he could blame it on English being his second language. Santiago did that a lot when he was flustered, "I am a virgin, and--I think, if that's--wait, what do you mean?"

Oh, she suddenly felt like such an idiot! She never should have opened her mouth in the first place. She should have gone right on kissing him, beause of course he wouldn't want to do something else! Honestly, wizard's chess, what was she thinking?! She shook her head very quickly, her cheeks taking on a rosy hue of humiliation as she quickly averted her eyes. "Oh, well, that's ok," she said hurriedly, trying very hard not to look at him when he suddenly drew back and fixed her with such a thoughtful look. Oh, she could just die. "It was a stupid idea anyway, and I--"

She cut off short when his last statement finally registered, her eyes going wide and finally turning a bewildered gaze back up to his face. "...W-what?" A virgin? Why was he telling her that? And...

"What does that have to do with Wizard's Chess?"

She almost didn't realize she'd said that last part out loud, so confused by his sudden confession.

There was no possible way she was actually this adorable. They simply did not make people like Jolene Flint anymore, and Santiago's worried expression slid into an amused grin, and he let out a short laugh, ducking his head and running a hand through his hair. Well. She actually was innocent enough to suggest they do something other than snog, to play wizard's chest, at that.

"It---" he bit his lip for a second, trying not to start laughing, because he was far too amused by all of this to keep a straight face. Santiago turned his head to look up at Jolene, a full on smile on his face. "I thought, when you said--to do something other than kissing, I thought you meant---more than kissing."

His grin turned sheepish, and Santiago felt his cheeks and ears heat up from a blush. Ay deus, he's never blushed so much in his life as he has around this woman; along with the way he seemed to lose all sense of balance in her presence, Jolene was going to end up putting him in the hospital.

"But we can still play chess, I am very good at chess."

Just what was so funny? She pouted as he suddenly turned away from her, still trying to piece this whole thing together and looking very uncomfortable at being the apparent source of his amusement. Her teeth worried insistantly at the corner of her bottom lip until he looked back at her, smiling at her in a way that made her stomach do a silly somersault. It should be illegal to be that goodlooking.

"More than....oooooh." Slow realization. And then a startled gasp as her face turned five shades of vermillion, the true meaning behind his explanation hitting her full on. "Oh!" But then she noticed that he was just as red as she, and she completely fell apart into breathless giggles, more at herself than at the situation. "I didn't realize... I'm so sorry!"

But something still struck her as strange. He was a virgin? How?! She was surprised women didn't throw themselves at him on a regular basis! "No, no... I... don't really... I didn't..." She kind of fluttered her hands nervously in her lap, then quickly changed her mind and decided not to go through with that sentence, shaking her head and laughing again.

"I'll just go get it then," she said isntead, and unfolded herself from the couch to make her way towards the stairs.

She didn't make it very far before she tripped over one of Ares' toys and went sprawling head-first into the wall with a magnificent thud. Even Ares looked away from Santiago long enough to observe her master as she slapped a hand to her forehead and muttered under her breath.

Santiago let out a gasp at the sound of Jolene smacking against the wall (ow, oh, that was a loud bang--) and immediately jumped up and hurried over to her. He didn't hesitate in taking her shoulders in his hands, bending at the knees to try to get a look into her eyes and what was probably going to be a gigantic bump on her head.

"Are you okay?" he asked gently, wincing, but holding back a smile once again. He was beginning to feel guilty now, for she had gone to get the chess set because of him, and now she was going to look like a unicorn. Deus, he'd never met someone so naturally clumsy, but it wasn't something Santiago found tiresome. Again, he found it somewhat endearing, knowing that she could be so very perfect in so many ways, but then nearly manage to kill a duck with her feet...el pato pobre...

His hands slid down from her shoulders to Jolene's elbows, getting a gentle grip on her to keep her close. Santiago stood straight again,

"I am afraid," he kissed the red spot on her forehead; it was swelling fast, "a pack of ice is the only cure for a bump."

"I'm ok," she tried to assure him, keeping her palm stubbornly over the physical evidence of her humiliation. But the second he stooped to peer into her face, she reluctantly pulled it away, pressing her lips into a thin line and trying not to look like she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it forever. "I told you I was a spaz," she reminded him suddenly, very aware of how stupid she looked and hoping that he didn't think she was completely insane.

Leaning into the soft kiss he pressed against her sore forehead, she hissed gently in through her teeth before reluctantly drawing back and crossing to the kitchen where she'd left her wand. A quick charm had frozen a small portion of a washcloth, and she brought it tenderly, hesitantly to the growing lump above her eye. "I wasn't just saying that. I'm a disaster." But she grinned feebly at him and shrugged. "I guess it's pretty convenient having a healer around when you're as injury-prone as I am."

Santiago grinned; deus, his cheeks were going to be permanently stuck like this if it was actually possible to freeze your face in an odd expression. Well, he supposed there were potions and spells that could cause that, pero...

"It is better for me, I think," he said slyly, his hand on her arm moving to her side. They would probably not be able to continue snogging with Jolene probably suffering a massive headache (or, well, he could do something for the headache, but Santiago had a feeling she would not be too happy with the unicorn bump growing on her head), but he still could not stop himself from flirting with her. Truly, she was just irresistable to him.

Which, when he wasn't in such a close vicinity to Jolene, was terrifying, but right now Santiago allowed his mind to be fogged.

"I allows me to be very close to you, a lot of the time," he murmured, arm sliding around her waist.

Her teeth scraped along her bottom lip in a useless attempt to hide the goofy smile that was curling her mouth, allowing him to pull her back into his embrace. It was taking all of her willpower to to giggle and blush like a cartoon character! Which was probably what she looked like anyway, what with that enormous bump steadily forming on her brow. Do you take one lump or two?

The hand not clutching the forzen towel to her head came to rest lightly on his arm. "Well I certainly don't object to that," she said honestly, leaning in to press her lips lightly against one of the dimples in his cheek. He had the most amazing smile. And eyes. And nose. Yes, she even liked his nose. Truth be told she was falling for him fast, which was scary only because with Jolene, falling only ever ended in her getting hurt.

"I don't think I want to play wizard's chess anymore."
