Water Water Everywhere (open)
Cait stood on the surface of the water in the ocean just outside the bay. Her eyes were closed, but she could sense the water around her and could feel it moving. It swirled slowly around her. Circling and spinning around her. She was one with the water and the animals in it. Dolphins swam around her, trying to get her attention.

"Young Swimmer, come play with us."

Cait smiled a little. "Soon," she sent back. "I need to practice with my powers." The water moving around her increased in speed and volume. Cait reached out and grabbed as much water as she could. She slowly stretched her powers out to their limits.

She felt alive. She felt strong. She felt powerful. Cait reached out further and commanded the water to move.

More and more water moved and large waves crashed all around her. A large smile was on Cait's face.

She stood on a rocky outcrop just offshore and watched. She watched the display from shore and smiled she knew what it was like to embrace her power. She loved her magic. She had left a little piece of it in the Titans headquarters so that she could find her way back to the tower. She had sneaked away to be with herself and her thoughts. She dipped her hand into the cold water and smiled. She bad begun to absorb English thanks to the four and after listening to Ruth, Jay and others on her walk to the coast. She had soaked up sights and smells like a sponge eager to learn about this world she would call home.

She could not begin to do what the young woman did with water. She enjoyed watching from a distance careful not to get near and to stay on shore. She dipped her bare feet into the water and smiled warming it to a pleasant temperature with her magic.

"We have company Young Swimmer," one of the dolphins told Cait.

"Huh?" she said and let the water fall back into the ocean and become calm again. She looked around and saw a woman on the shore. "We do. Shall we go say hi?"

"We will follow."

Cait formed an ice surf board and created a wave to ride on. She was smiling as she surfed toward the woman.

Dana watched as the woman came closer and sat down to wait keeping her feet submerged in the now warm water. She had wondered if simply warming the ocean to a more comfortable temperature had given away her presence. She smiled and waved to the woman approaching her. She pulled the hem of her borrowed skirt up so that it remained dry. And then pulled her legs from the water tucking her knees up to her chest.

Cait waved back and continued to shore.

Cait reached the edge of the shore and the ice board disappeared and Cait remained standing on the surface of the water. Two dolphins popped up out of the water next to her.

"Hi."

"Greetings. I Dana." Her English still wasn't the best but she learned more and more each time someone spoke. She saw the dolphins and smiled reaching out her hand. She had only ever seen a carving her mother had owned depicting one.

"Hi Dana. I'm Cait. Cait Curry." One of the dolphins swam up and touched Dana's hand with her nose.

"It's nice to meet you."

She smiled warmly and though she felt a small amount of shame she mimicked the young womans speech. "It's nice to meet you too." Soon enough she would run out of grammatically correct English and she hoped she would still be understood. "I did not mean to trouble you."

"You didn't trouble me. I'm just practicing with my powers. It's easier out here in the ocean than in the bay. More water to move around and I don't have to worry about damaging anything."

The second dolphin came in and nudged the woman's hand. Clearly they were used to humans, but by no means were they tame dolphins.

"You practice. I thought can only have what you born with. No more." She looked to her hands. If you can practice it means you can get better. Maybe she should try practicing sometime. But how she didn't want to hurt someone.

Cait nodded. "I can manipulate water and I practice and learn how to do it better. Different attacks and different ways of manipulating it. I also practice so I can get stronger and be able to manipulate more at a time."

Cait pulled two columns of water out of the ocean and shaped it before freezing it into two sculptures of dolphins. "Though not all of it is for combat."

"I have never fought with my magic. I only use it in help with chores. Make things quick," She paused for a moment trying to think of the right word. "To help make them go faster." She smiled and looked to the dolphins and then to their new ice statue counterparts. "They are good."

"Thanks. I practice quite often." She let the ice turn back into water and return to the ocean. "I can understand making things go faster. I can never wait for water to heat up so I just do it myself."

"Magic, huh? Interesting. Never was one for it myself, though it's not uncommon among my people."

"It is uncommon for mine. If I could I would give back. Never wanted it. Always hiding it. Only family and innkeeper know." She rubbed the nose of a dolphin one last time before tucking her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. "They say things better now. Airmid says I will be happy and Uni is helping me to learn."

"You don't have to hide it here. It's fairly common." Cait smiled. "My boyfriend can use magic. So can Cerdian, who I've known since we were very little."

"Still hard to break old habit." She smiled. All things in time a voice told her. She heard the word boyfriend again. She didn't think she wanted one of those. But she was happy that people could find one another and have love and powers. "Your boyfriend?"

"Oh. That is sweet. I do not know you well enough but I am happy for you. That is a long time. Do you think you will marry?" She smiled She had remained unmarried somewhat out of spite and contempt. Her father had given up and for that she had been happy.

"Thanks. I...." She hadn't been expecting that question and she didn't know how to answer it. she remembered quite clearly what she saw when Ty was under the influence of the Black Mercy. It had been...rather nice, but as it were things were complicated. Very complicated.

"Things are complicated." Understatement of the year. "I would like to though."

Cait nodded in agreement. "Thank you and it is good to have people you can trust. I have Ty and the Titans." She smiled. "Ruth is a good person and I hope one day you can trust the other Titans as well."

"I have only met Ruth and Jay. Now you. I have only heard the names of the others. I should be at tower, Came to get fresh air, to see, and to learn." She looked out to the horizon and inhaled deeply. Until today she had never seen an ocean. It was two weeks journey to the east. Her father had planned to take her for her birthday at midsummer. She looked up at the sky and did her numbers in her head. "What is the day?"

She looked back out to the ocean and smiled broadly letting a few errant tears fall. Her voice was barely above a whisper as her lips parted to speak. "I got to see the ocean father. I wish you could be here to see it with me."

She turned back to Cait and her smile remained as she wiped away her tears. "It is my birthday today. I saw the ocean just like my father promised." She smiled and put her hand to her throat in an absent minded gesture. Her smile only dimmed for a fraction of a second. "Today I will have seen 18 summers." Shepauses for a moment before bursting into spontaneous laughter.

"Oh. Oh! Happy birthday!"

Cait's brow furled in thought. "We have to celebrate because bad or sad birthdays are not allowed."

Cait knew all about a rotten birthday. He last one hadn't been spectacular by far thanks to her father and she wouldn't let others have bad birthdays.

"I'm not sad. I couldn't be happier. I have been given a new life and a chance to start over. I would have had to bury father, to watch family go on their own I would have stay at home a crone growing old. Now, now I can help people. More people than I could dream. No sadness never sad." She stood and dusted her self off. "I would like to cook for everyone. Just show me how to use and then give food and then I will be okay alone."

"Oh okay. Hrm. We may have to get one of the other Titans to show you how to use the stove and oven. I'm barely above burning things."

Cait smiled. "Come on. We'll ride back to the tower."

Cait let herself sink into the water and grabbed the dorsal fin of one of the dolphins.

She watched Cait carefully. She balked at the thought of going in the water as is. "But Ruth's clothing will get wet. I-I do not want to ruin it."

Cait grinned. "I can take care of the water when we get there."

"You'll be fine. I do this all of the time and the dolphins listen to me. I take Iris swimming with them as well."

She stepped into the water and Grabbed on int the same manner Cait had. Being this close to one was a thrill and she used her hand to briefly pet it before grabbing once more. "Alright. I am ready when you are."

"Please take us to the tower," she asked of them. The dolphins started swimming toward the mouth of the bay and toward the Titan's Tower.

She held on tightly as they swam off. She hadn't realized just how far in a day she had walked. She hadn't eat and had only drank from public drinking fountains. She had also manage to walk without shoes. she hadn't come with any and she hadn't needed them. The city and its people were growing on her.

They quickly reached the shore where the Tower stood. Cait thanked the dolphins and promised to play with them soon and walked up on shore. They swam off, jumping out of the water showing off.

She waited for Dana to exit the water.

Dana moved out the water and pulled her hair forward and began to wring it out. "That was amazing." She looked up at the tower. "Do all of young...Teen Titans live in the tower?"

Cait pulled all the water out of Dana's hair and clothes leaving her dry a moment later. "It's always fun."

"Some of us do while other still live at home. We have teleporters that get us here quickly if need be."

"Then if I do not want to live with others I do not have to?" She loved that she had found new friends but she knew that eventually she would want a place of her own. In her own time she had kept to herself. By nature and by nurture she was a solitary creature. She smiled as an urge came over her. She did some basic stretches for a moment before she took a few running steps and leaped into the air up she went for a moment doing a small front flip. Hitting the ground in a tight ball she somersaulted and sprang up to throw here arms out. She turned back to Cait her cheeks flushed with exertion. "I forgot I was wearing a skirt. Do you think anyone saw? It did feel rather freeing. Mother taught us all a few tricks. It made winter go by faster."

"You don't have to live at the Tower. I do because I have nowhere else to go and Ty is there. It's the best place for us at the moment."

Cait smiled as she watched the acrobatics.

"I don't think anyone saw. No need to worry. Shall we go inside?"

She nodded happily and made her way back to the building. "I should find somewhere to exchange my gold pieces. I need clothes of my own soon. I am very," She paused for a moment thinking of the word, "Very scrawny."

"Do you have a tailor or maybe a seamstress? A place where I can purchase fabric? While I was exploring today I saw clothing I would like to wear." She had seen a young woman dressed in a black and dark blue dress with some kind of ruffle underneath. She had looked like a doll.

"I wish to pay for my things myself. Is there anyway I may trade in my gold to this paper money I kept seeing today?" She suddenly remembered she had never opened the package that had been placed with her things. Maybe after shopping she would get to it.

"There is, I just have to find out how. I never had to exchange Atlantean gold. My parents always took care of it for me. Once we do that we can go shopping. I'm sure the other Titan girls would love to go if you wouldn't mind having them along."
