Green Arrow No More

Lightning crackled and thunder boomed.  Rain beat down on the face of the second Green Arrow, Connor Hawke.  With his target captured in his gaze, Connor knocked the final arrow and sent it racing through the air.  The head unfolded into a boxing glove and collided with the back of the fleeting man's head.  The man fell to the ground and instantly tried to get up, but Connor was there to shove his face into the ground.  That one swift movement knocked the man out.  "I'll leave you for the police," Connor stated.

He dragged the villain out by the front door of the home that had been broken into.  He was about to leave when, suddenly, he heard the cry of a baby.  He went inside and looked around.  Connor hadn't noticed the baby earlier when he made his initial sweep of the home.  After peering into the room the cry came from, Connor saw a young baby boy.  He remembered what happened to the family.  He knew this baby no longer had a family.  "No..."  he decided.  "You're going to have a family."

Connor walked over to the baby boy and read the name off of his pajamas.  "Alex," he said.  "You'll be safe with me."

The adoption papers were final a few days later, and Connor Hawke now had a son to call his own; young Alexander Hawke.  He'd talked to everybody he was on good terms with about the adoption, and he assured them that his days as Green Arrow were over.  He couldn't keep up that act while he had a kid to look after.  News traveled fast, too.  It even reached the ears of a young man named Keith Queen.
