Di!

To most, Dianna's gushing and prattling about the geomorphology of archipelagos and their historical significance might have been a bore, but Felix was enthralled. If they were seated, right now, his chin would be on his hands as he listened with adoration and keen interest, hanging onto to every word and never interrupting. However, it was rather difficult to both stare at Dianna and blindly walk along the Valletta waterfront, especially when his nerves were making him feel increasingly faint and damp with perspiration as they neared the spot that Felix planned to propose to her. His hearing was a bit fuzzy and his mind was scrambling for words as the vibrant blue door loomed ahead on the wall of buildings they were strolling past and Felix's free hand (as Dianna was hugging one arm as she talked) instinctively went to the pockets of his slacks with two-fold purpose: to surreptitiously check that the ring box was indeed still in his pocket and to dry his shaky, clammy fingers. It was then that he realized she'd gone quiet and he chanced a quick glance at her before cringing softly when he saw that she was looking at him expectantly, as if she'd asked a question.

"I'm sorry," Felix said with a weak smile. "What did you say? I was thinking about how that door there matches your dress."

Her beau looked rather flustered, but she supposed that should be expected of a man that was about to propose marriage. Dianna was a very smart, observant girl. A trip like this only meant one thing: there was a diamond in one of Felix's pockets, and it belonged on her finger. Knowing that the purpose of this trip was to become engaged did not ruin her excitement. Dianna was barely containing herself, and was only managing so because she was a poised and sophisticated young lady. Also because her boyfriend-soon-to-be-fiance had gone completely out of his way to make this momentous occasion in their lives quite memorable and beautiful.

She loved Felix. It was a happy feeling, it was something that made Dianna smile and feel proud of herself. There were very few people she could admit she actually loved, her brother Derek being the one she'd only truly been sure of. With her trying past few years it was a marvel to herself that she'd somehow escaped the darkness that had encompassed her, and she had Felix Ackerly to thank for that. He hadn't run away when she did, he'd come after her when she was feeling undeserving of all attention, and Dianna could believe him when he said he thought she was amazing.

As much as Dianna said it herself, that she was quite the catch, it felt so, so very good to have someone actually agree with her.

Her eyes looked toward the door and she smiled; he always noticed the tiny details. Dianna tightened her grip on his arm, wondering if she could manage if he put off getting down on one knee for just a bit longer, to enjoy this walk. Not much longer of course, but.
