Bianca!
It was getting down to the wire -- a little less than a month to go now, and no room at all for cold feet. He was sure that his mother was expecting him to get up and run every minute of the day, with how frequently she stopped by for 'emergency visits'. She always found a reason to show up, whether it was a last-minute flower arrangement change she wanted to discuss with Bianca or another concern over Bertram's tuxedo not being of precisely the right cut. It was starting to take its toll on him, not being trusted by her, but at least Bianca was being reasonable ... outwardly, at least. He had the sneaking suspicion that his mother might've been stressing her out or something like that, but he didn't want to bring it up and have it turn into an unnecessary fight.

He tore the invitation in his hand in half and dropped it into the bin, checking off the names on the 'master list'. It was tedious work, moving through all these RSVPs, but he'd been roped into doing it by hand to make sure that the list was as accurate as possible. He glanced at the small mountain of RSVPs that were to his right and sighed, rubbing a hand through his hair.

"Bianca, can you put on a kettle or something? I think I'm going to need an energy potion just to make a dent in this pile."

Bianca was going to need more than some tea and an energy potion to get through the rsvps. She stared out the window of the kitchen as her hands idly moved the pot onto the stove. She had absolutely no desire to do anything wedding related, especially something tedious like sorting out who was coming and where they should sit. Bianca had been completely honest when she said Mira, her mother, and Bertram's mother could have at it with this wedding. There hadn't been anything Bianca had felt entitled to during the whole ordeal, and was beginning to wonder, or even fear, that her lack of concern over what china pattern was used or which flower sat on the pew was a bad omen for things to come.

She loved Bertram, very much so, but for the past five years Bianca had been everything but traditional, had gone against everything society wanted from her and...she was being dumb. She'd been elated when Bertram proposed, she never took off her ring, she loved the idea of being with him but the enormity of being with someone for the rest of her life was---scary! Daunting, it was daunting and overwhelming.

Which was silly! She loved him, loved being with him, but the pressure of being someone's wife and not messing things up, and not making Bertram hate her when she grew too obsessed or angry over---over anything and--Bianca didn't like failing, and she was terrified, terrified of ruining his life, Amissa's, Aaron's, hers because she couldn't handle being married or a wife.

The kettle began to whistle and it startled Bianca out of her silent thoughts. Her hands, which had been holding onto a mug slammed down into the counter and the ceramic shattered. With a wince, she immediately moved to the sink to shake the pieces off of her hands and to rinse away the blood. Ugh, she couldn't deal with RSVPs like this.

"In a second!" she called out, letting out a breath as the water grew hot.

His mother would never believe that Bianca was the one stressed out about this. Then again, he'd spent a lot of his life being afraid of commitment -- it didn't feel right to back out of the one agreement that he'd actually entered into himself, even if it had been an accident, his proposing. It wasn't something he would take back even if he could feasibly do so.

...and Bianca could definitely never know that their engagement hadn't been on purpose. It would make her doubt him, which was the last thing he needed when he was sure his mother was secretly preparing Bianca for him to leave her at the altar or something like that. He frowned at the sound of ceramic shattering, dropping the returned invitation that he'd been holding quickly and rushing into the kitchen with a confused blink. Once he spotted Bianca at the sink, he ushered himself in behind her and reached gently to remove her hands from under the taps.

"...little accident, huh?"

"Just a bit."

Bianca gritted her teeth, letting Bertram's hands take over. For someone who was so blunt with his words, he was always gentle with his hands. She supposed it was all the time he spent with his young daughter, and Bianca knew that her hands would never move as smoothly. Being girly with Amissa was pointless, especially now that her mother was back in her life, and Bianca still found herself working quite hard to not be too rough with Aaron.

She needed to put on her hitwizard robes. She never felt insecure when she had on those robes, and she really needed to find some strength with less than a month until her wedding. It shouldn't be such a hard thing to get ready for, she wouldn't have said yes if she didn't think she could d it. Had she just been caught up in the moment? That had been almost a year ago, how was she still....she had to stop thinking like this.

"It's not too bad," Bianca said, pulling away, "I've had worse."

"Yeah, but I don't think those wounds were inflicted by a vicious mug." He frowned, letting her pull away even though he didn't feel comfortable with how much fiddling with them he'd done. "You need to get something on that. At least let me go get some salve, all right?" He wasn't sure what to make of this, really. Bianca was usually so together, and now she was acting like -- she thought marrying him was going to be a huge mistake. She hadn't said anything to that effect out loud, but Bertram couldn't help but think that was what her worry was at its base.

"Can we talk about what made your mug viciously attack you?" He shifted to sit down at the kitchen table, searching Bianca's face. He knew she wouldn't want to talk about it, but if they were going to get married they should be able to be completely honest with each other.

He was always able to read her moods, something she loved and hated about their relationship. Bianca had managed to stay very much a recluse for most of her life after Hogwarts, save for Mira, but even then her friend had found it to be a miracle to get Bianca out for something other than work. Bertram made her want to talk, and she knew that he could sense her concern and worry, and she knew that if she wanted to be a good wife and make sure this marriage last, she had to push past the barriers that were slowly crumbling down.

Bianca let out a breath as she continued to wrap her hand with the bandages she'd pulled from the counter drawer. Bertram was giving her an out, but she couldn't take it.

"Why'd you ask me to marry you?" she asked, deciding to be completely blunt. Maybe if she heard his reasons for wanting her to be his wife she could accept them herself. Bertram was so easy to trust and believe, maybe hearing this form of reassurance could get rid of her nerves.

Bertram tried not to show Bianca just how nervous that one question made him. He was suddenly sure that she'd somehow figured out that his proposal hadn't actually been on purpose, persay, that his ring hadn't been what she had assumed it was -- but at least he had a retaliation if it came down to admitting that.

He was a Slytherin too, though, he -- could be cunning.

"What do you mean?" He raised an eyebrow at her, watching her bandage up her hands.

She blinked. She couldn't be more clear than that, could she? Why did he ask her? Why did he want her to be his wife? Why in that moment had he decided that she was the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with? Wizards lived a very long time, so for Bertram to be sure of this, well---he had to have specific reasons, right?

Bianca needed to hear them loud and clear. She needed the support from the most important man in her life because the pressure she was feeling of being someone's wife was crushing her from the inside out.

"What I said," she responded, pulling the wrap too tightly. Bianca tried to keep her expression neutral; she couldn't have him see how nervous she really was, "Why did you ask me?" She needed to hear it.

He let out a breath of relief. Sure, he should probably tell her eventually what really conspired on the night they were engaged, but -- that could wait until she wasn't having what was apparently a minor nervous breakdown. He put on a keen smile and carefully slipped his arms around her, moving to loosen the bandage she'd just yanked hard on.

"Because," he pressed a kiss to her cheek, "You are a wonderful woman, one of the only people who will stand up to me and tell me when I'm being an idiot in a way that even I can understand..." he paused, "And you could kick my arse as soon as kiss me." They were true reasons, at least.
