Seth
Savannah really didn’t know how it had all happened so quickly.

One second, she was walking through the market looking for the milk when she damn near collided with the muscular frame of the last person she expected to see – her ex-husband, Seth Wadcock. It was awkward, to say the very least, considering how hard she worked at avoiding him at all costs, but somehow they had managed to get through their ‘hellos’, and before she knew what she was doing she was asking about Leanne, and then he was extending an invitation for her to join the two of them at the park the next afternoon.

And then she had agreed to it.

The whole thing seemed like a blur, but she couldn’t back out now. Not that she necessarily wanted to, but it had nothing to do with the man who had almost knocked her back a step or two on her way down the aisle. She honestly missed the little girl – the one who she had been sending birthday cards and gifts to, even after the divorce between she and her father was over and done with. Savannah had stayed with Seth for two reasons after she had shown up on the doorstep that was, at the time, theirs: she loved him, and she didn’t think it was fair, for another woman to abandon the child like her own mother had. For a while, Savannah had been the mother figure in her life, but it was so hard to see her when she knew that meant having to confront her father, as well.

Savannah smoothed out the fabric of her shirt, seated on a bench off to the side of the playground where Seth had told her to meet them. She had arrived early, so she could buy a cup of coffee at the shop nearby. She was…well, she was nervous, to be honest, and wished that they would hurry up as she took a sip of her coffee, her legs crossed at the knee with her foot bobbing.

She wondered, while she waited, how big Leanne had gotten…and if she even remembered who she was.

Her eyes closed at the thought, and she let out a breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding, wetting her lips before re-opening her eyes, watching the other children play.

As an after thought, maybe this wasn't the best idea after all. Their run in had been awkward enough, and here he was putting Leanne in the middle of it all. But, after everything, Savannah at the very least deserved to see her. She had helped him get everything settled when she was just dropped off on his porch.

And just because he and her didn't work out as a couple (granted in retrospect he was a bit of an arse, not that she didn't have her moments either) but either way, didn't mean he couldn't attempt maturity now, and he had to reason as to why she couldn't see Leanne.

"Hey." He said in greeting as he pulled Leanne off his shoulders as he approached the bench where Savannah was sitting. He was pretty sure that Leanne didn't remember her, she wasn't even two yet when they separated, but once he had said that she was the one that had sent her the pretty card and present for her birthday she immediately got excited.

He knelt down next to his daughter, "Well there's Miss Savannah, why don't you go say hello, and thank you for you're gifts." he suggested quietly. Except Leanne just moved to hide behind him.

"Sorry she likes to pretend she's shy." he said rolling his eyes. Leanne was anything but shy. Seth gave her a small nudge. "Go on, show her what a polite young lady you can be."

This time she moved forward waving hello and holding out the dandelion she had pick on the way to the park to her.

The familiar voice that came from somewhere off to the side made her head turn, eyes immediately connecting with the pair of sparkling blues that were peering down at her. “Hi.” Her eyes lifted to take in the sight of the little girl sitting on his shoulders, blinking due to astonishment – she looked so much like her father, even more so than she had the last time she had seen her. For some reason Savannah got nervous as Seth placed her down and began prompting her on how she should say hello, wondering if the little girl was going to wind up hating her – a fear that got a little more realistic when she went to hide behind Seth. Thankfully his words eased some of her anxiety, and she just smiled at Leanne, hoping to relay the message of ‘it’s okay, I won’t bite’.

Her expression blossomed into a grin as she not only came towards her, but extended a small yellow flower out to her. Savannah gestured to herself with one hand. “For me?” When it was confirmed that it was a gift for her to take, she gladly accepted, carefully plucking the pretty weed from Leanne’s hand. “Thank you so much!” She leaned forward on the bench, her elbows resting against her thighs. “I haven’t seen you in a very long time – look at how much you’ve grown!” She reached forward with her other hand, brushing some of the little girl’s hair behind her ear before she gave another broad smile.

“Are you excited to play in the park?”

The little girl nodded enthusiastically. "Uh huh! The park is my favorite. Lotsa pwetty frowers. Would you like some more? I go pick you more." and she skipped off without waiting for an answer.

Seth watched Leanne run off to pick more flowers. "She's on a flower kick now. Constantly have a bouquet somewhere in the house." he shoving his hands in her pockets. "All she cares about are flowers and tea parties and anything pink. She's a good kid. The best even."

He rubbed the back of his neck, the awkwardness of this whole thing seeping back in. "So, a lot of things have changed this past year." Seth said looking over to Savannah, taking the opportunity to talk to her while Leanne was off playing. "Mostly me just finally growing up. I mean, merlin, I have a kid to raise, I couldn't just keep going around being a complete immature ass all the time. Which I was. And the you certainly never deserved the way I treated you."

He sighed and continued before Savannah could say anything. "Look, I don't expect anything from you. At all, on any level. I just thought you should know, I've finally realized what a dick I was and that I'm sorry."

Savannah giggled at how rapidly she was speaking – the last time she had seen her she barely had more than a few words in her vocabulary, and now she could barely keep up. Watching her go off to collect some more flowers, she turned to look over at Seth as she explained why she was so enthusiastic about gathering a bouquet for her. Another smile graced her features when he continued on, though it faded slightly when she thought about how little she knew about Leanne, now that she was a little girl and no longer a baby. There had been a period of time when she knew everything about her – she knew which cry meant that she was hungry, or when she was craving attention. She knew which blanket had been her favorite, and she knew how to lull her to sleep.

Everything had changed so much, since then.

Things were definitely getting awkward again, and Savannah carefully placed the dandelion she had been handed down on the bench beside her, taking a slow sip of her coffee. Her free hand moved up and down along the length of her thigh, rolling her lips under as she tried to think of something to say.

But then he started before she had the chance. She turned to look over at him, large eyes blinking, sitting quietly as she listened to everything he had to say. There were definitely times when she wished she could have stopped him mid sentence, but at the same time she was curious about what it was he had to say, and where all of this was going. She actually had to look away, when he admitted to knowing that she definitely had not deserved to be treated like she was just some girlfriend that he could break up with because he was bored with her. That’s how she had taken it, at least. That’s how it felt.

She swallowed thickly, staring down at her coffee cup, remaining quiet as she just tried to process everything. After a while, she finally did pipe up.

“… okay.”

She turned back to him, feeling a little stupid for not having anything else to say.

“I just-… I really don’t know what else I’m supposed to say…”

She turned away from him again, gnawing at the corner of her bottom lip before she turned back to him once more. It was strange, staring into those ice blue eyes again.

“I’m glad though…that you decided to grow up. That you think you’ve grown up, at least. Not that I’m saying you haven’t, but-…” she cut herself off, letting out a huff of air to show that she was feeling a little flustered, one of her hands coming up to rub at her brow.

“Now I don’t even know what I’m trying to say.”

Seth pursed his lips at the 'that you think you've grown up, at least'. Not that he didn't deserve it, but still. One day, someone would actually believe him. Outside of Mira and Henry, anyways.

"That's fine. You don't have to say anything." He shrugged his shoulders. It wasn't like he actually expected her to accept his apology. He was hopeful, but realistic.

"Anyways, I just figured you ought to see Leanne. And if you wanted to see her more often---" Seth started but was cut off.

"Look look!" Leanne said running back up, except her 'l's sounded like 'w's. "I made you a flower crown. Miss Mira taught me how." She held out the flower crown to Savannah. Well if she didn't know about Mira before, that was certainly one way to find out. That was the thing about three year olds. Repeat everything, say anything.

It wasn’t like she didn’t want to be able to accept his apology and just move on like nothing had ever happened, but this wasn’t just something that a simple sorry could fix. After everything that had happened with Logan, and even Finn (she understood that he wanted to have a chance to have a family with Joy and Cormack, so that didn’t hurt so bad…), she was starting to think that there was something wrong with her, and being divorced didn’t help with that.

She turned to look at him again, brows lifting with interest at the idea of being able to see Leanne more often, though she didn’t get to hear his full thought due to the sound of a little girl’s voice cutting him off. Savannah turned to Leanne to ‘look’ or ‘wook’ at what she was extending out to her.

She was quiet for a moment, letting out a simple ‘oh’ before she looked at the little girl’s bright and beaming face, giving her a broad smile.

“Do you think I should wear it?” She handed it back to Leanne. “Will you help me?” She then ducked her head forward so that she could place it on the top of her head, lifting her own hands to adjust it before sitting back up. “How do I look?” She gave a little pose, and then grinned down at the little girl, waiting until she went off to play again before turning to Seth.

“Is Mira her nanny, or…?”

She trailed off, simply curious. If he was seeing someone else, she wasn’t going to be hurt by it – she might be if she found out this new relationship of his (if that was what it was) had started so soon after their divorce, but that would be the only reason she could possibly have for feeling hurt. After all, she too had found happiness with someone else.

"Ah, no. Dorothy is the nanny, and Leanne doesn't really like her much. Very strict with bed time and cleaning up."

Seth shifted on his feet. "Mira is my girlfriend. Started dating back in January. She spoils Leanne with tea parties and princess things and what not. Which is good because Leanne could care less about anything quidditch. And well, I'm not particularly fantastic at girly things."

He watched Leanne, twirling about the park, smiling softly. "Anyways, you could see her more often if you wanted."

She knew the answer to her question before he said anything – he felt uncomfortable talking about his new girlfriend in front of Savannah, and he had every reason to. Instead of getting upset, like he might have expected her to, she kept her eyes on him, watching him watch his daughter. He always lit up, whenever he looked at that little girl. She remembered that look well – and while it might have made her angry to remember anything about him a few months ago, this particular memory of their relationship made her smile.

“I’m glad she has a woman in her life who loves dressing her up in pretty clothes, giving her everything a girl could ever want.” She turned to look back out at Leanne. “I would like to see her more often…I just hope it won’t be a problem for Mira.” She turned to look over at Seth again – it was ultimately Seth’s decision, who saw his daughter and who didn’t, though she didn’t want to cause any unnecessary drama just by being in the child’s life.
