Adrian!
It was still very, very strange to think of herself as a mother, but Maggie managed. She was a cool mum. She was a cool, hip, hot young mother! A single mum, at that! Maggie was raising Josef all by herself, and doing a pretty damn good job! Okay, so maybe Geoffrey came over quite a bit, but that was because he didn't have a girlfriend and had nothing else to do after practice. And Odette came by a lot, but that was because Anna needed a play buddy and----Drystan too, but that was because he probably thought she was going to drop Josef on his head or something (she'd only dropped him once, but had caught him just in time!).

And there was Adrian, too. Maggie didn't really know what to think of him, besides the fact that he was a great actor. He must've taken lessons in Portugal or something, because he was ridiculously good at being an affectionate boyfriend, which is hard when you're not actually getting any affection out of it. Josef seemed to like him, too, and it just---worked. Their little façade worked; Adrian was praised beyond belief for sweeping in and taking up his responsibilities as Josef's 'father', and Maggie didn't have to deal with all the questions and concerns the public had about her personal life.

They thought she was happy with her perfect foreign boyfriend.

And she was. Except he was fake.

"Ooooohh, look what Opa sent!" Maggie cooed, pulling up the tiniest Heidelberg Harriers jersey she'd ever seen. She held it up for Josef, sitting in his bouncy seat, to see. He didn't seem very impressed, so she turned toward Adrian, "Look at how cute!"

"It would be much better if it said Braga Broomfleet on it," Adrian responded, one of his brows raising high to create a playful look. Sue him if he still had Broomfleet pride running through his veins; that team made him who he was today. Not that the Catapults weren't good to him, they had been very good in the past few months. But they were Welsh in the British League; Braga would always be home. How could he turn so easily on his roots?

But none of that now, it was almost dinner time. Everyone knew your inner-most recent thoughts came out at the dinner table and Adrian didn't exactly want to plague Maggie with his little whim of homesickness. It was nothing, and their relationship was strange enough that he didn't need to throw something like that into the mix and stir the pot.

Yes, that was a good word to describe what they were: strange. But not in a bad way. It was very much a symbiotic relationship. They enjoyed each other's company, not to mention the benefits they gained from each other, so it worked well. Plus Maggie obviously loved his cooking. Anyone that was fond of his food, he liked. Period. And vise versa.

"Just saying," he shrugged, his smile growing into a smirk before attuning back to their dinner.

Maggie pulled a face and stood, making sure Josef was secure in his seat before heading to the kitchen. There had been one too many mishaps of the little bugger wriggling his way out of the straps to be too nonchalant about moving more than five feet away from him. Maggie pointed a stiff finger straight toward Josef's nose, silently warning him not to try and escape. He blinked slowly at her, and Maggie felt like he was calling her an idiot with his big blue eyes.

"Shush," she let out, crossing into the kitchen to try and peer over Adrian's shoulder at the food. Merlin, she was glad he could cook. She was glad he was willing to cook. Maggie's plot of not denying Adrian as Josef's father (or whoever the media came up with besides Drystan) never had seemed like a plausible way to get out of the trouble Braith had put her in. Maggie had been---fine with having the baby out of wedlock, she'd been fine with having a boyfriend and not a husband, but then Braith---changed and----it was just---

She was really lucky that the media had chosen Adrian as her baby's father.

"That looks funny," Maggie let out, scrunching her nose at the food on the stove. "Your perfect chef score may be compromised tonight."

Everyone was a critic. Adrian's lips pulled up in an amused manner as he shook his head lightly. This was a favorite recipe of his mother's, and one he liked to eat when he wanted to especially feel his roots. It tasted good, made good smells in the kitchen and wasn't too difficult to make. You just couldn't look at it mid way through preparation.

"It's paella," he explained, letting his portuguese accent come out fully on the last word. "And---" At this point, Adrian turned, facing Maggie. Oh. She was much closer to him than he previously thought she had been. Blinking for a second, Adrian shook his head to ward off any unnecessary thoughts. This was just a friendly contract, no need to screw everything up with scaring her away.

Adrian took the opposite side of the stirring spoon to playfully poke Maggie with it. "You can't judge until you try it," he reaffirmed with a quick nod, his mouth opening wide again for a large smile. "The cook is very sensitive about food reception."

"What? Say that again."

Maggie pushed up on her toes, fists firmly planted to her hips as she grew more intrigued with the dish. Well, more-so on the pronunciation of it, because it always got her so amused when Adrian spoke. Of course he had an accent, it was evident in all of their conversations, but you could definitely tell he tried to cover it up sometimes. Maggie didn't know how she would feel, being bombarded by journalists in another country who were most definitely confused by your accent, but. It intrigued her nonetheless. It probably drove Adrian mad, how interested she was in his Portuguese words, but Maggie had never been one to hide away from what she wanted.

She was also very bad at staying out of people's personal space (why would anyone not want to be close to her?), and she gripped the spoon handle to pull it out of the way. "I should know how to pronounce the name of the dish before I tell you how bad it is."

Maggie smirked greatly, trying to ignore the fact that the food smelled really good and that Adrian looked really cute. There was just something about men in the kitchen that really got to her.

Adrian's lips pushed together in amusement, his mouth tightening up as he held back a laugh. He wasn't sure what Maggie liked more sometimes; his accent or his cooking. She seemed to enjoy both of them very much, and didn't hide that fact at all, really.

"Paella" Adrian spoke again, displaying the worst form of an ugly american accent he could pull off. They had done some world traveling for Braga two summers ago in America, and he had seen some pretty strange ways of speaking. Obviously, that had led to an unlimited source of hilarity plus a pretty good way to pick up girls.

Girls! Everything kept on coming back to girls. Torture! Maggie was--- a girl he could see himself liking. Or already sort of did. It was too difficult! Pretending to be a father, having a fake relationship with this girl he really saw no problems with! It really wasn't his fault, it was only a matter of time before something started. Acting was very convincing.

And he really wanted to do something about it, these feelings but that would scare her away, wouldn't it? Yes. Definitely. They barely knew each other. It didn't make sense to do anything about it now. So Adrian shook his head, pushing those thoughts aside for the time being.

"It's got shrimp in it" he continued with this new accent.

Maggie's face contorted at the sounds that were coming out of Adrian's mouth. Those weren't words, who on earth would want to sound like that on an every day basis. She had to listen to her father rant in German, and Adrian's strange accent was even more violent sounding than that! Well, almost. She did notice the amusement in his expression, so she wasn't too concerned that he'd gone and lost his mind.

"Pieyah?" she tried to repeat, or at least---he was joking, right? Maggie shrugged her shoulders in a funny way to try to act as if she going along with his joke when she was really finding herself confused. "Pieyuh?"

Maggie suddenly found that she did not appreciate his teasing. Maybe she had thin skin, or she didn't want to sound like an idiot in front of Adrian, but whatever it was, it caused her face to heat up with an embarrassed flush. With a great smirk she reached forward and grabbed his chin, pulling him (gently! Well, maybe there was a bit of a jerk) down toward her. She really wanted to say this right (of course that's what it was), "Say it right, Braga."

She couldn't help her sly grin, and it was making it hard to seem threatening. He was a good foot taller than her.

Oh. She was not getting his joke. She was not getting his joke at all. Maggie actually looked rather pissed off. Or was she just confused? His sense of humor had always been a bit off than everyone else's, which usually hadn't been that big of a problem. But Adrian didn't want her thinking he was making fun of her-- that was the last thing he wanted. Damage control! Or at least... she was smiling, sort of. He would take that as a good sign.

"Paella," Adrian spoke within the confines of her grip, contorting his face to create an amused (and awkward) grin. This time he did say it right, but only because she had taken him off guard. Not to amuse her, or anything like that. Maggie was surprisingly strong for a Chaser.

And if it were possible, they had gotten even closer. Bending down to her face was slightly uncomfortable, but he wasn't about to complain. Nothing wrong here. "Enjoying man-handling me?" Adrian spoke, bravely reaching out to grasp her side.

What? If she was allowed to hold his face like that, then he should be able to hold onto a body part of hers. It was only fair.

Maggie shook his chin lightly, her smile growing. Latching onto Adrian had been a good idea. It had given her time to look his face over and realize that he was quite handsome, and any girl would be lucky to have him as her baby's father. Maggie didn't really want to think about having more children, but she was glad that her imaginary boyfriend was so cute. She didn't protest when he grabbed onto her, enjoying the playfulness because it was something she hadn't had in a while. Adrian was really good at making her happy.

He really was a wonderful person. All Adrian had to do was tell his agent to put out a release stating that he was in fact not Josef's father, and he'd never have to see her again. Instead, he spent a lot of unnecessary time with her and the baby when he could be chasing all of his fan girls. Of course, this whole thing started with selfish intentions on both parts, but it had been months since the media had really questioned or said anything about Josef. They were definitely more interested in the dynamic of his 'parents.'

Maggie let out a breath as she let go of his chin, her hand moving to his shoulder. They passed the line of 'acting' a long time ago she was starting to think; they just hadn't initiated anything beyond that.

"What are we doing?" she asked, feeling breathless.

"I dunno," Adrian responded dumbly, his ears starting to pound. They were really close, and the only thing he found himself thinking about was kissing her. Her lips were right there, he could easily do it. But--- he liked where they were now, he didn't want to ruin it. What if she flipped out? Josef was right there, over in the next room...

Maybe he could convince her otherwise. Yes! That was it! Even if she rejected him, he had the ability to change her mind. She had confirmed him as the father of her child, he wasn't going anywhere fast in that sense. That gave him more than enough time just in case things went wrong. And if they went right... well, he was about to see.

"No--- wait. I do," Adrian spoke confidently, effectively ridding himself of any doubts. He let his empty hand reach to place itself on the side of her face, taking the time to hold it. Maggie would know what was coming next, and to reassure her, Adrian slowly moved to kiss her, enjoying the way her lips felt.

Ohh, she was really glad he'd kissed her. Maggie had not wanted to be the person to make the first move, because how would that look? Lure the guy into a fake relationship only to end up snogging him a couple of months later? He would think she was some sort of nut, but here they were---Adrian had seemingly begun to fancy her, and she was glad. It had been really hard not to fancy him either, or to gush to other people about how wonderful he'd been. She spoke so highly of him so often that it had definitely affected her real opinions...oh, who was she kidding, she'd had a small crush on this bloke since he'd arrived from Portugal.

Maggie slipped her arms around his neck to pull herself closer and deeper into the kiss. She hadn't kissed anyone in such a long time. She couldn't even remember; she didn't want to remember the last time, because it didn't matter anymore. It felt so very good to be held, and already she could tell that Adrian wasn't just snogging her because he hadn't gotten laid in ages---

---who the hell cooked on an almost daily basis for a woman who wasn't putting out? This definitely meant that he fancied her more than just a quick snog. The thought excited Maggie and she smiled against his mouth, her grip around him tightening.

She wasn't slapping him! Or pushing him away! Sweet Jesús finally! Not that--- all the things Adrian had been doing for Maggie before had been like chores or anything. He had enjoyed spending time with her, and Josef, and the cooking and the good conversation. It was all just a huge bonus that it was with a girl that he had come to like.

He felt really giddy. Adrian too smiled against Maggie's mouth, immensely enjoying her warm acceptance of his obvious emotions for her. Adrian could have kept this moment going on forever if he could (they did a little bit), but eventually they had to like-- breathe, and stuff. Taking a moment, he rested his forehead on hers, just soaking in everything that had just happened.

This was awesome, this was great what could possibly--- Fuck he had to tell her about Odette. But was that really necessary right now? Adrian didn't want to ruin the chance of further snogging. But she couldn't possibly get mad about something like that, right? Damn Odette and her obnoxious-self ruining everything.

Adrian moved his head from resting on Maggie's, but he still kept his hand on her face. Taking a breath, he opened his mouth to deliver some thought-out, explanative words that lead into this topic. "I'm Odette's brother," he blurted, closing his eyes tight as soon as he said it. Smooth, real smooth. Repair time.

He began to ramble. "Not that--- I was thinking about that just then. I just--- you should know because I like you and--- I don't want you to think that I purposely kept something like--- that. It's really a long story, she would kill me if she knew I was telling you but-- did I mention sorry?" God, he was just digging himself deeper and deeper wasn't he?
