What If: Domestic Life
Sydney hummed an upbeat tune while she cleaned and chopped carrots for a salad. The classes she taught today had gone very smoothly. She only had a few more weeks to go and she would have her masters in Ancient History. In the fall she'd be starting on her doctorate. Life was going very well for her and she was a happy woman.

She glanced at the clock. It was only four thirty. Zoey was in the rec room watching cartoons and Avery wouldn't be home for at least another hour. Which mean she still had time to think of something to make for dessert. She was thinking about brownies. There was plenty of time to make some and they would go great with the vanilla ice cream and topped with melted peanut butter.

The carrots were tossed in the bowl of salad and she toss the knife and cutting board into the sink. She glanced at the muted television. Huh. LA now had its own team of superheroes judging by the headlines. She didn't think San Francisco would get a team anytime soon. Which was fine in her book. They didn't need villains and heroes alike destroying parts of the city.

She grabbed a box of brownie mix from the cabinet and started collecting the items and ingredients she would need.

Avery managed to get off of work early today, which meant that he'd be able to get in time with his girls this evening before practice with the band. He loved Sydney for tolerating his dream of wanting to be a professional musician even while he worked as a clerk at a San Francisco law firm.

Ever since that falling out with his parents a few years ago, when he chose to stay with Sydney instead of go home and marry Cecelia, they'd cut him off from the family fortune and all of their contacts. Had he done what his father wanted, Avery might be a hotshot lawyer with a house in Beverly Hills.

He'd also be without Sydney and Zoey. That wasn't any kind of life he wanted to lead.

He opens the door a full forty-five minutes earlier than expected this evening.

"Beautiful woman in the kitchen, and good food on the stove. I need to write another song about how awesome my life is." Avery grins, leaning in to kiss Sydney.

"How was your day? Is Zoey awake?" he asks.

	Syd greeted her husband with a smile and a deep kiss. She liked it when he was home early. "A handsome man home early," she said with a smile and wrapped her arms around his neck. 	"Good. I'll go roll around with her until dinner's ready." he says, after the kiss ends. He could kiss her all day, really, but they had other things to do. 	"You got that one? I'm so up for it. I've been wanting to see it since that trailer we saw on TV." Avery says. Sometimes, he can be a big kid about the animated movies. He then clears his throat and attempts a serious face. "I mean, yes. Sure, that would be fun. All three of us." he says, trying not to break into a big grin, and failing. Forty five minutes later and after dinner, Syd was curled up next to Avery on the couch and Zoey was stretched out across the both of them. It was about close to perfect as life got. Syd had a great husband and they had a wonderful daughter. Sure, they were just making ends meet and it would be like that for the foreseeable future, but money wasn't everything. They were happy with what they had and Syd didn't want anything else.

Avery loved his life, but he couldn't help wanting to give his wife and daughter more. He'd almost called his father to ask what it would take to smooth things over, but he'd hung up at the last moment. He wasn't desperate enough to grovel.

And he didn't want Sydney to think less of him.

"This movie looked great in the trailers. Do we have everything, ladies? Popcorn, drinks...are we missing anything? Speak now or be tickled if you remember something when the movie starts." Avery says aloud.

	The movie ended and Avery carried the drowsy Zoey off to bed for the evening. When he returned to his wife on the couch, he sat down, smiled and idly played with a lock of her hair. "Hello, beautiful. Penny for your thoughts?" he asks. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	"It's funny you should wish that, actually. While I was putting Zoey down, Wade calls to tell me that practice is canceled tonight. The reason? He just remembered that tonight was his and his wife's anniversary. I think he managed to convince her didn't forget. Is yelling a good sign?" he asks, chuckling. "So, tonight, I'm all yours." 	"Keeping it straight is the easy part," she said. She remembered absolutely everything and it made the school stuff easy. It also made other things like learning languages easy.
