Fluff meme: Cooking is a science!
Cooking she could do, other people putting in all that effort and cooking for her? She couldn't do. Which was exactly why when Aleks proposed this dinner thing she'd already planned on coming early to help the moment she agreed.

Well, okay, she'd avoid having to cut any onions but she was still handy in the kitchen. Besides, regardless of what people said, cooking was a science. And she was a scientist.

"Hi. Now I know the fact I brought wine may be odd, considering I don't drink it, but I do own some. Fine, I use it only for cooking, but still. Classic guest-gift and it works with the whole cooking dinner thing you've got going," she rambles once he opens the door. Lena would admit to some slight nervousness. Not willingly, but still it had to count for something.

	He was a little surprised that she wanted to help so much - whether its not trusting his cooking, or just her quirks - but he agreed. There's just enough room for two in the little kitchen unit. "Not that odd at all, thank you." he replies genuinely, accepting the gift as he holds the door open for her. "Make yourself at home." (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Quirks really, although she had no idea what he was making. "Thanks," she smiles and toes her shoes off to leave them at the entrance. "So what's on the menu Chef?" It's an odd bit of upbringing perhaps but she's never taken the 'make yourself at home' to heart. There's a moment of hesitation as she considers where to leave her purse and jacket. There's plenty of choices. The place has the spartan look of a bachelor pad in which the bachelor does not live a lot. The only decorations, such as they are, are the eclectically stocked bookshelves - scifi, classic lit, psychology journals, hard science journals, historical fiction... and a nice hand-carved chess set.
The furniture looks comfortable enough, but obviously hasn't seen a lot of use, all but one of the feaux-leather bound chairs still having the 'new' sheen to them.

"Chicken Kotlety and salad. The prep work for the chicken is mostly done, but still plenty to do. Hope you like Russian."

She goes for placing her stuff on the chair, figuring they'll start off in the kitchen and she'll figure out where to move it if need be later. "Never heard of it but I'm a sucker for chicken I will admit. So it sounds lovely." Casually, she looks over his bookshelf, an old habit when visiting people, and makes note of the journals with a smile. She recognized a few she gave him as background reading on gamma radiation related biology.

She is definitely the superior scientist, but where it comes to radiobiology, at least, he can keep up, headed towards one of his doctorates, at a relatively lax pace due to work for SHIELD. But getting there. Some of the books are hers - for which he's been grateful, others, especially the textbooks, are his. There's quite a bit of bookshelf to look at, and aside from the coffee table or chess set, not much else to draw the eye.

"Sort of superficially like fried chicken... in that its breaded with a flour and egg mixture and baked... after the chicken is stuffed with a cheese and garlic mix. I figured, since you wanted to help, you can make the salads? No specific idea, I got a variety of things. The dish needs some greens with it though."

	That gets her attention away from the bookshelf. "Can I just say that you've said two magic food words for me in the same sentence? Chicken and, even more, garlic. I am sold sir. Sold. 	He chuckles. "Whatever sounds good. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have bought it. Hard-boiled eggs, spinach leaves, baby corn, carrots, green onion. I admit, I usually save the cooking for company. Left on my own, I'll throw a sandwich together or go get pizza or a burger. But now and then its good to stay in practice and prove I can cook." "Oh don't worry it's fun cooking with other people. Well, actually it depends the people but still," she smiled almost shyly. What he found interesting in that way about her was still a mystery to her, and not one she thought she'd figure out any time soon.

"It's A list but I'll throw in mushrooms, bacon and anything fried in butter on it too. I have a stuffed mushroom recipe that I wish I had more time to make with all those things. Ah, almost forgot, sauces. And let me say it again: garlic. It has to be mentioned again."

"I think that might just have enough garlic to please me," she smirked and continued working on the salad, knife work she could handle. "Well, it would give me an excuse to make them..." That's almost a tease, she is working on coming to terms with the fact that he'd be interested at all.

At least she knew his medical records well and wouldn't need to ask about allergies or find out too late what they were. That would be awkward.

	Yeah, his medical records are pretty much readily available to her. Aside from the whole gamma-irradiated problem, no allergies, no evidence of any other health concerns - healthy as a would-be-Hulk. There's just that one issue.
