Hide and Seek is Over
He'd been pretty good about cleaning up after himself.  Didn't want to leave a trail, you know?  That was the best way to keep himself from being tracked down by his friends or his family.  He thought he'd had a few close calls in the past few day, though.  The shadows were following him all the time, and people always stared (even though his face was always covered).  It's like everybody knew who he was the minute he walked by, and that was unacceptable.  Keith Queen was dead, and that's the way he liked it.  He'd even started to shut Marissa out; hadn't called her or tried to talk to her.  There was no way of knowing who was going to turn on him.

Keith turned the corner into an alleyway.  Once he hit the shadows, he pulled off his hood and half-mask to breathe better.  He'd been having trouble breathing for awhile now, especially behind all that fabric.  There was no real explanation for it.  He hadn't breathed in any of the smoke from when he blew up his house, and he'd always been physically fit.  This whole ordeal should have been a breeze.  But it wasn't.  He put his hand to his forehead and pressed his fingers hard against it, trying to force a thought into his head.  Or, not really into his head.  Maybe he was trying to push a thought out of his head.  There were some things he didn't like to think about; things he liked to avoid as much as possible.

But apparently, you couldn't avoid some things forever.

"Give it up, Keith," Ollie said after dropping into view. It hadn't taken much effort to find Keith, truth be told. The boy made a mistake when he took his teddy bear with him. If he thought Ollie and Dinah were lax enough to not bug that bear, then he wasn't as bright as they raised him to be. As soon as they realized that that bear was missing, they knew how to track him down.

"This little game is over, son. You're coming home."

There were no questions about it. Ollie had made the decision for him.

At the first noise, Keith pulled out a knife -- yeah, a knife -- and spun to face the man confronting him. His eyes widened and his grip tightened so much it almost hurt.

"No!" he shouted back. "You're not going to tell me what to do! Not anymore!"

"A knife? You're going to pull a knife on me? Weren't you supposed to be the Green Arrow?"

Ollie ignored the outburst. Considering everything Keith had been through, he was sort of expecting this sooner or later. The only questions had ever been "when" and "how bad". Well, this certainly answered those questions.

Those words bit Keith like vipers. They were quick and cold. They were exactly what his dad always used to try and make him realize he was being stupid. But Keith was being ignorant of most things now.

"I was Green Arrow," he bit back, putting emphasis on the past tense. "And now I'm dead. So just go away and let me be!"

He tossed the knife at his dad and booked the other way.

Ollie caught the knife and grit his teeth. This was worse than he'd ever expected. He probably should have let Dinah come with him, but he'd made sure she stayed at home. The kids didn't even know that Ollie had found Keith, and he figured it was better that way. They had other major issues to deal with.

When Keith booked it, so did Ollie. He was pretty quick for his age, too. But he'd also come prepared, just in case Keith decided to run. He pulled out a collapsible bow and revealed a bolo-arrow. He drew it back, then released. Ollie hadn't really deteriorated in skill at all.

Keith hadn't been expecting his dad to pull out a bow and arrow. And he hadn't bothered to look behind him to see of he was being chased. To him, the bolo just suddenly appeared to wrap around his legs. He yelped and fell, and he hit the ground hard.

"Screw you!" he shouted. "You can't make me go back! I don't want to!"

Ollie walked up beside his struggling son. A pang of sadness ran through him. To see his own flesh and blood in this state... it was a little unnerving. But he had to put that aside in order to bring Keith back. There was going to be a lot of focus put on him for as long as it was going to take to make him right again.

"I'm sorry, son," Ollie said before knocking the boy out cold. He picked his kid up and made his way out of the alleyway. He'd already picked up all the stuff Keith had brought with him. That was all stashed across the city in some random hiding spot. If it wasn't for the situation, Ollie might have been proud of how resourceful his son had been.

But for now, he was just sad.
