Alice attempted to roll over to her other side in the armchair in the living room in the Order house, but couldn't. She was in a half-sleep state, one that wasn't allowing her to actually wake up and move about like she was supposed to be doing. It felt nice to just be sitting here and sleeping, feet up and no worries. That last bit was a lie, because she had many worries, but right now all she cared about was being able to sleep.

But her bloody back was killing her!

She let out a low whimper at the pain as her eyes blinked open. Merlin, she'd had such an ache all day, and this chair usually cured everything (Alice was almost 99% sure that someone had charmed it with soothing spells). Maybe she was just too pregnant for it to help. That made her make another pathetic noise, and Alice put all her strength into pushing herself up from the seat she'd been stuck in for the past two hours. It took some great effort, but with one---last---push she was up.

The effort created a strange sensation, the pain swept through her again, and suddenly her feet were soaked.

Had her water just---broken?

Oh, oh---Alice began to cry immediately, one hand holding her upright against the chair and the other cradling her stomach. "Shit! SHIT!" Oh God, this must be labor because Alice Chelsea Longbottom never cursed. "SHIT!"

Lily had been having a nice nap. A nice nap--do you know how hard nice naps had been to come by the past week? Groaning, she rolled uncomfortably, awkwardly to her other side and reached out sleepily for a pillow to throw over her head and hopefully block out whatever noise had just woken her up.

Although, it wasn't like she was going to get back to sleep anyway. Harry had been kicking her nonstop for the past few days, and that wasn't to mention all of the cramps she was having and the bloody Braxton Hicks contractions that had become so routine that she almost couldn't remember a point when she hadn't been in utter discomfort. This was torture, absolute torture. And now there was someone yelling downstairs, and the pillow was doing nothing to block out the---

Wait, was that Alice?

Slowly coming out of her drowsiness, Lily lightened up her hold on the pillow and narrowed her eyes towards the door just in time to hear one more loud curse--definitely from Alice.

Well, now she was awake, and not in a way she wanted to be. She was awake with fear, causing her heart to pound as she reached instantly for her wand. Oh no oh no oh no oh no, not now, not here! There was no thought in her head that this was anything other than the worst thing that could possibly happen because there was no getting this far along and thinking it couldn't happen, even right here in the Order house, where they were supposed to be tucked away to be safe.

Lily didn't remember how she had gotten up out of bed and downstairs so quickly, but it must have been record time in which she had waddled her way down into the living room where she had left Alice to go take a nap earlier... to find--with a wave of relief--that there were no Death Eaters here attacking them.

But there was something wrong. Alice's lower half was soaked and she was crying and Lily ignored the insistent painful feeling in her own stomach to make her way--much slower this time, fuck she was hurting now--over to her friend. Not that she had any idea what to do now. "Okay, okay---calm down, Alice, uh---I'll get help, I'll call--oy, fuck!"

She had to let go of Alice just then, because a sudden feeling like she'd been stabbed in the gut caused Lily to drop to her knees and---no, Harry! This was quite possibly the shoddiest timing she'd ever heard of.

Alice's eyes widened to the size of quaffles and she gaped at Lily's keeled over form. No! No, she was not---"YOU CANNOT BE IN LABOR RIGHT NOW!"

Oh, she'd feel terrible for yelling at a woman in labor in a few hours, after she was done giving birth, but all Alice's mind could think of was 'who the fuck is going to help me now?' All of her auror training had shot out the window. There was no calm in the middle of the storm, there was no heightened intensity, there was nothing but a panicked, first time mother who really had had no actual idea about how much this---would---HURT. Alice was sure as all hell they had never trained her in labor and delivery.

Stupid fucking men and their lack of wombs---

Another pain--another contraction shot through her side and Alice let out a rattled sort of sound, covering her mouth as she bent herself at the knees to try and help Lily. The Order had left strict instructions on what to do if either of them went into labor while they were alone, but the hell if Alice remembered what it was. Patronus? Merlin, if Alice picked up her wand right now she'd probably blow the whole house to pieces.

"I'M SORRY FOR YELLING!" she yelled, then stopped herself as a new batch of tears came, "Are you---the boys! I don't---I can't----think!"
