Happy birthday!
It was Rex's birthday. And Hope wasn't going to miss Rex's birthday.

She knew he would be out during the day, but she decided to surprise him when he got home. She showed up an hour before he would be home, bearing steak, potatoes, green beans, beer, and of course, chocolate birthday cake. She had also gotten him a couple of books in architecture, since he had told her that he was interested in opening up his own firm.

When Rex came home, he would find dinner on the table, and Hope standing there in a little red dress.

"Happy birthday, Rex," she said, going over to kiss him.

Today was a hard day for Rex. He'd had several meetings for financing for the new firm, all of which hadn't gone so well. Then, he got to the museum and found that there was still no new information about the theft from the other night.

To top it all off, he hadn't heard from Sheeraria or Nic in a couple of days. He was much more worried now than he was before.

He honestly wasn't thinking about it being his birthday today, because he didn't want to think about how crappy a start it was off to.

The moment he walks into his apartment, though, his entire worldview rearranged. He sees the food on the table, the cake and above all...his Goddess.

"This is the best day ever." Rex says, pulling Hope into that kiss and smiling at her.

"Thank you, Goddess. That dress really makes me wanna have dessert before dinner...but I can wait. I'd rather just talk to you. Shall we eat?" he asks.

"Yeah, it was a long day, Goddess. No one's willing to give me a loan. I've got great credit, but people aren't willing to take any chances these days." Rex says tiredly.

"But this makes up for the long day. I'd kinda forgotten about the whole birthday thing." Rex says.

"I missed you, too. How have you been?" he asks. He pulls out Hope's chair and waits for her to sit down, before sitting down himself.

	"I'm sure you'll find someone willing to help you," Hope said, kissing him on the cheek. "I have faith in you. Someone else will, too." "I'm glad it does," she smiled at him. "I'm glad you came by. Oh, by the way, we're doing a barbecue at the Browstone for Independence Day and you're invited, of course. We could use lots of hot dogs. I expect kids." Rex says, taking a bite of his food. He sighed happily at the taste of steak. Today was already a lot better.

"There was something else I wanted talk to you about, too, Goddess. If you had some time." he says.

Hope would easily note the change in his tone, indicating there was Something Serious he wanted to discuss.

"Well, I've been thinking lately that this apartment is just too small for me and Nic. Stretching out my wings isn't as easy as it was, and it's just too...cramped. I've been looking at some houses to rent. The only house I'm living in permanently is the one I build." he says, eating a bit more.

"But the place I'm thinking of is pretty big, too big for just me and Nic." Rex says. "We've been together for nearly a year, Goddess. I thought it would be nice if you and I could see each other when we want. Have dinner together and watch sports and drink beer together. It's a big step but...

Do you want to move in?" he asks.
