Making Room for Daddy
Avery walked into the large, sprawling house dropping his bag at the door and shaking his shoulders to loosen some of the tension there. Despite the motion, his stomach was still doing flips.

Very soon, he would get to meet his daughter.

He had to play this slowly, though, because one wrong move and Sydney would try to keep Zoey away from him. It angered him on a few levels that she had all the power in this, that his rights had been violated. Still, he kept a lid on it, because getting a chance to know Zoey outweighed his anger at Sydney. He could be an adult about all of this.

He walked into his home office and sat down, picking up the phone and dialing Sydney's number. The two of them needed to reach an understanding first, before they brought Zoey into the picture, and the best way to do that was a friendly chat.

Avery waited as the phone rang, hoping Sydney was there.

Avery is actually stunned into silence at the sound of Zoey's voice. He remembers it as if he'd heard it yesterday, and he smiles brightly, even if the little girl cannot see him.

"This is the Awesome Defenders? Whew, good. I didn't want to get the Just-Okay Defenders by mistake. Wait a second..."Avery says, mock suspense building in his tone.

"...is this...Zoey the Awesome?" he asks. "My name is Avery. I don't know if you remember me from the mall a couple of weeks ago, but I remember you! It's tough to forget someone so AWESOME!" he says.

"How are you, Zoey?" he asks. Please let her remember me. he thinks to himself.

	The sound of her giggle made Avery giggle as well. He still hadn't stopped smiling like an idiot. "I fare well, though flying ist tiring. 	Zoey giggled more when he talked like the Asgardians. "You need to learn magiv like Asleif and Marlow. They can tele...tele...disappear. She is. I'll get her." 	"Ah, teleportation would definitely help. You should set me up with your friends so I can learn some of this magic stuff." he chuckles. He has to hold the phone away from his ear when Zoey calls out for Sydney, noting that his daughter has a powerful set of lungs. It just makes him smile. 	"I don't want to know, do I?" Syd asked as she held out her hand for the phone. Zoey handed her the phone. "It's Avery! He was talking like an Asgardian," she giggled. Syd shook her head. "I am well, thank you. I hope you're doing well as well." A pause while she thought about what he said. "Of course. I know you want to spend time and get to know Zoey." She very carefully didn't include her in there. "I haven't told her yet because I didn't know when you would be around and I didn't want to have to answer endless questions and not know when you would be around."

"I understand that. From this point forward, I intend to make my schedule and whereabouts more accessible to both of you. I'm not looking to upset the apple cart, Sydney.

I really do want to come to an amicable arrangement for all of us." he said.

He noted that she did not include herself in spending time with him and Zoey, and he didn't blame her. Still, he wanted Zoey to see that her parents could share time with her and get along. Children could sense issues between adults in their lives.

"I would like to try that dinner idea that we suggested, maybe at Chuck E. Cheese. You could invite a few of your friends, and I could invite a few of mind. This way, there's no pressure on either of us or Zoey." he says.
