&personality.
"The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve." -Ginny WeasleyGinny is not the tiny thing that shyly stuck by her mother at King's Cross six years ago. This is the girl with a firebrand personality as bright as her hair, who is best friends with the hyperintelligent Hermione and the dreamy Luna, who dates the often-times moody and always brave Harry...the girl who is related to Ron, Percy, Fred, AND George. She is popular and makes friends easy, extremely talkative and funny. Quite charming. Thoughtful and kind, whip-smart and gifted, Ginny's wit and capacity for love is only equaled by her drive...and temper. She is the only person who will stand up to Harry when he's isolationist and moody, she'll take her brother five rounds and back; girl's got guts. But she can be a righteous brat when angered, as Ron would be happy to tell you. In fact, all of the Weasleys would like it noted: a supreme, horrid brat with a tendency to hold a grudge for a remarkably long time until she snaps out of her pout to suddenly move on. She's a teenage girl, albeit one with greater patience, since it was forged in the fire of dealing with brothers so maddening that survival required it--and with a mother like Molly to guide her. Life alternately sucks arse and rocks, depending on which day it is, but she is supremely bull-headed to continue on a path that is uniquely hers. If you were to describe Ginny in one word: determined.
“Like Ginny, [Lily] was a popular girl.”--Jo Rowling It is important to note, though, that Ginny is in a serious relationship that is as frustrating as it is fulfilling. How do you have a normal relationship with an abnormal boy? Especially one that delights in treating you as if you are made of glass sometimes, what with his need to "protect" her. But...Hermione gets to play? The war is over, but they are still a tight threesome, and it makes Ginny's teeth ache that she'll never be a part of it. On an intellectual level, Ginny knows that Hermione has a different place in Harry's life, that their friendship is different...but sod it all, it still hurts that he and Mione and HER BLOODY BROTHER--who, oi, she is certain she could hex rings around, out-charm, out-Quidditch?--go off like a merry trio while Ginny stays behind? She feels as if Neville, Luna, and she are like that Muggle superhero sidekick from the comic book her father brought home once: Robin. They are the Robin to the others' Batman, and they'll never get to drive the fun Bat car.
Naturally, she hasn't mentioned this to Hermione. And certainly not to Ron, don't be daft. And...she can't to Harry, she doesn't want to hear him explain it because she knows...she does know, she's not stupid. It just hurts to be the one left behind when her heart goes along with them. Ginny has had life without Harry, and she'd much prefer not to go through that again, thank you...she just wishes it were easier. Somehow.
Bollocks, Ginny will go to the Quidditch pitch and play with some teammates and interhouse friends to relax. Yes, she's extremely good at Quidditch, but more than that: it's fun.
Maybe she can convince Luna to commentate on the scrimmage, that's always good for a laugh or ten.

&history.
"The fact that Ginny is the first girl to be born into the Weasley family in generations is meant to indicate that Ginny will be a very gifted witch." --Jo RowlingHer birth was a surprise and an unparalleled delight--her father Arthur never expected to have a daughter, and her mother Molly so desperately wished for it that her heart felt worn from years of fervent prayer. And there she was, small and squalling with a horrific shock of red hair. A Weasley, all right.
She grew up in Ottery St. Catchpole, Devon, with Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, her parents, and various pets. Ginny very much values her privacy thanks to this kind of upbringing, where everyone is crammed together and nobody thinks to knock. Ever. It depressed her so much, though, when each brother peeled away and went to Hogwarts; the year she was alone with her parents was both delicious in the sudden gift of quiet and privacy...and the most terrifying and sad thing she'd ever experienced. Because of this, Ginny stays in the common room at lot at Gryffindor, hungry for the chaos and calamity of it all...except when it's time to sneak off for a snog and sweet words with her boy. She's not Ron and Lavendar, thank you.
She arrived at Hogwarts in 1992 and drew comparisons to her brothers from all of the professors and staff:
-Charlie's fearlessness and skill in Quidditch, his sense of humor, his opinionated personality
-Bill's sharp mind, his friendliness (and Professor Sprout laughed that Ginny was a looker like Bill)
-Percy's intelligence and academic acumen. Thankfully without the stick up his arse.
-Fred and George's sense of fun and adventure, their unflinching boldness, and when she's determined, she bears an uncanny resemblance to them, one that made Filch stare at her as if she were their triplet--shock, horror, and suspicion.
-Ron's loyalty and heart
But McGonagall said that Ginny was a Weasley all of her own, and said it with that rare smile that felt like a thousand compliments from other people.
Ginny was two people at Hogwarts for her first four years: one around Harry, another with...well, everyone else. Everyone else saw the girl described before; Harry saw the shy, awkward thing that was so pained in his presence that she was possessed by the diary she needed to cope with her aching heart. But Hermione was the one who told her to date other boys, move on, that it would get better. And it did. But she never stopped hoping for that black haired boy. How do you love someone from the age of ten on? How do you cope with love and puberty? It bloody blew, thank you, but Ginny, being aggressive, plowed ahead with Michael and Dean, and blossomed, merging her public self with her Harry-seeing self. The rest there, is history.
During the war, Ginny had a case of deja vu. Charlie, Bill, and clearly Percy all had their own homes and lives; Fred and George spent the overwhelming majority of their time at Auntie Muriel's running their business, except for weekends home for food and laundry. So it was just her, her parents, her pygmy puff Arnold...and that creepy ghoul she wasn't allowed to go near. All the while, her parents and her brothers that weren't prats were off doing things with the Order--oh, except for Ron, who went off to save wizardkind with her best friend and her ex that she still adored. She understood. She did. But it was so lonely to be her during that time.
What hurt her so much--something she didn't expect--is when the fight was over, Ginny looked around the Great Hall for Harry and Ron and Hermione, and they weren't there. Luna told her that she created a diversion to let Harry slip away. Understandable, yes. Naturally. But...they went off, the three of them. She had missed them so bloody much, she didn't know if there were words for it, but they were gone. She debated whether to search them out, but she didn't. She stayed where she was and waited for them.
They came back to her. But it's the absence she remembers as well as the returning.
