RP Thread: Jamie and Malcolm
Malcolm hated being sick. He really hated it, but he tried to get through it without whinging too much. But there was always a point where Malcolm felt like melting into his bed and turning into a puddle of primordial ooze, composed mostly of germs and snot. He'd reached that point last night, had pulled himself into bed and curled up there, waiting for it to be over, except for getting up for the loo and sending an owl about a half hour ago to Jamie, begging for intervention in the form of entertainment and orange juice. He wasn't sure if he could drink orange juice, but it never failed to make him feel better after a bit, so he hoped that Jamie brought a lot.

He hated looking sick, so he managed to haul himself into the shower before Jamie showed up. He was just coming out of the bathroom in his underwear, drying his hair with a towel when Jamie arrived. Malcolm gave Jamie a pitiful look, but smiled. "You came!" he said with his hoarse voice, and ended up having a slight coughing fit. "I hope you brought a germ suit," he said before slouching back to his bedroom and crawling back under the covers, leaving his wet towel at the end of the bed. "I feel like shite. Better, clean shite, but still shite nonetheless."

Jamie quirked a brow and then followed Malcolm to his bedroom. Of course he came. A friend was sick and had asked him to come visit him. Why wouldn't he? Of course, he didn't want to get ill himself, but so long as it wasn't bad enough to send him to hospital again, he'd be all right. He'd deal. And besides, Malcolm had visited him when he'd been cooped up in St Mungo's. At the very least, he could return the favour. At the most, he could spend time with a friend, even if it ended up being him listening to Malcolm cough and hack and shoving potions down his throat in an attempt to help alleviate some of the symptoms of his cold.

In the room, he set a bag down on the floor by the bed, a bottle of orange juice on the nearest night stand, and tutted softly. "Really, you should dry your hair properly. It'll just make things worse," he fussed a little, pulling out his wand. He cast a drying charm on Malcolm's hair before he could protest before picking up the towel. "And do you want juice now or should I just put it up until later?" he asked, working on folding the towel so he could put it up. "Though you should drink something if you haven't in awhile. That is, of course, if you can keep anything down." He pursed his lips slightly, silencing himself so he didn't sound too much like a fussy hen.

Malcolm just smiled at Jamie's mothering, closing his eyes for a moment when Jamie dried his hair out. It was probably for the best, that was right. He shrugged, "I could take a glass and you can put the rest away. I'll drink it slow. I had some water earlier in the shower, just to wet my throat, it gets gross otherwise." He shifted down a bit, burrowing into the pillow and wrapping the blankets around him more. He wasn't too cold, but definitely chilled, so he figured the more blankets the better.

"Thanks for coming though, I don't want you to get sick. I hear that people who had the...virus thing, they get sick easier. Don' want to see you ill again," Malcolm mumbled, yawning slightly and then shaking his head to keep himself awake. Jamie was here! In his room. Not exactly the way he'd wanted, but Malcolm was used to taking what he was being given. "Sorry the place is a mess, woulda cleaned up for you but body is so achy."

"'Course I came! You came when I was sick, and we're friends," Jamie said, smiling brightly. "And don't worry about the mess," he added, picking up the bottle of juice. "I'll be right back," he informed Malcolm and then left the room, heading first to the bathroom to put up the towel and then to the kitchen to grab a glass to fill half way with orange juice. He put the rest up and stopped a moment to look around the kitchen and get his bearings.

He hadn't heard anything about people who were sick with whatever the hell it was earlier that year being more prone to future illnesses, and honestly, that thought scared him. No way did he want to go back to hospital, especially not a second time in the same year. He fussed a little over the state of the kitchen, pretending to help Malcolm out when he really just needed to collect himself and shove thoughts of getting sick and going to hospital again out of his head. It took only a few seconds, and then he returned to Malcolm's bedroom, glass of juice in hand.

"Here we are," he said, sitting down on the bed to face Malcolm, offering him the drink.

Friends. Malcolm caught on that word and sighed as he watched Jamie leave the room. Ugh, just friends. Malcolm desperately wanted to be more than just friends and he hoped that his being sick didn't mess up the fact that they were friends. He waited patiently for Jamie to return and took the juice gratefully, sipping some of it slowly. "Mmm, really good. Did you squeeze it yourself? Very tasty. Thank you," Malcolm said with a nice smile. He shifted away from Jamie and patted the bed next to him, "Here, have some more room and get comfortable. I don't want you falling off the bed, alright?"

Malcolm put the drink over on the night stand and sighed. He bit his lip and looked at Jamie expectantly, "What else did you bring me?" he asked it a light voice, sort of teasing, because he really wasn't expecting anything else, but Jamie had brought a bag, he could only assume it either had stuff for him or a change of clothes for Jamie, which wasn't all that probable.

Jamie shook his head. "No. I just bought it myself," he said with a smile. "It would have taken me a little longer to get here if I'd squeezed it myself." Not to mention, he honestly hadn't thought about squeezing it himself, but he didn't want to mention that. Somehow it seemed a little less considerate, so he figured he'd just keep that little bit of information to himself.

"What did I bring you? Nothing. That bag's full of books for me to read when you fall asleep," he said, keep a straight face for about twenty seconds. He grinned and then reached down, grabbing the bag. He made himself comfortable on the bed in the space Malcolm provided, bag on his lap. "Now let's see here..."

He unzipped the bag and started shuffling through things. He pulled out a few colouring books and a bag of crayons and coloured pencils. "I've got stuff to colour with." He then pulled out a few magazines. "Easy reading materials with lots of pictures." Next came two sketchbooks. "One's for you to doodle in or take notes or whatever while you're sick," he said, putting it on the pile of other things. "The other's mine to keep me occupied if you fall asleep on me, but you can look at it if you want." Jamie set his sketchbook on the nightstand by him and pulled out a portfolio. "I thought you might want to see my portfolio. It's not great, but I'm working on it..." He put that with his sketchbook. "And I've got board games in here, too, as well as cards." He took out the deck of cards, leaving the board games in the bag and setting the bag back on the floor. "I would have brought my guitar, but this bag's not been expanded enough to fit it inside while it's in its case," he said, blushing very faintly at the thought of playing for Malcolm.

"Ah, but squeezing it would've simultaneously proven your manhood and your love for me. And squeezing fruit. Which may possibly be involved at some point, but really, this bottled stuff is just great, completely what I was expecting. If you had squeezed it for me, I would've had to, well I don't know, but I'd have to do something for you." Malcolm waved his arm at Jamie, before deciding it was too cold in the room and pulling it back under the covers and watching him carefully as he pulled out things.

The more Jamie pulled out, the wider Malcolm's eyes got, "Wow Jamie! That's a lot of stuff. I know I'm a Gryffindor, but it's not that hard to occupy me. Ball of string, bit of mirror, something shiny. This is, well its amazing," Malcolm reached for the portfolio right away. "Here, come show me what is what."

"So next time I'll just stop off at the pet store and buy you some cat toys, all right," Jamie said, smirking. He then adjusted everything else on the bed and scootched closer. He gently took the portfolio and opened it, setting it between the two of them.

"I've got sketches, a few little paintings, some photographs, and a few other things in here," he said, displaying first a drawing of the Leaky Cauldron with a few scattered patrons at different tables. For him, it was mostly a study in shading, but he'd added a few colours to give it a bit more depth. "They're not all like this. I was just playing with shading..." He bit his lip a little, suddenly hating that it looked a bit unfinished and rough to him.

"Hah, I'm sure that'll take care of it. But you will have to play your guitar for me sometime," Malcolm slouched down a little but leaned against Jamie so the side of his head was resting on the outside of Jamie's shoulder, he didn't want to get him sick so he'd keep his hands and snot to himself, and try to limit breathing on him, but Jamie just smelled good and he was a nice warm body to lean against (not to mention it was Jamie) so Malcolm could hardly help it. His attention though, was definitely on the portfolio.

"Wow Jamie, that's really good. It's very good, I'm blown away by it. If this is just a sketch, I can't wait to see the finished stuff. I'm definitely getting you more art supplies for Christmas, the world definitely needs to see more of this stuff," Malcolm said, running his finger on the outside edge of the portfolio because he didn't want to touch the actual piece.

Jamie glanced down at Malcolm's head briefly, then turned his attention back to his portfolio. He blushed a little at Malcolm's words and said, "Those are really expensive... You don't have to do that." Really, he didn't. Jamie would be happy with a card for Christmas, and he didn't really want Malcolm to spend so much on him.

"But... I was thinking about a flat that has two floors or at least two sections, so I could use one area as a studio slash gallery of sorts, have people come in and look around..." He trailed off as he carefully moved the sketch to display another of the back of the Leaky with the entrance to Diagon Alley partially opened. However, instead of opening into Diagon Alley, it opened out into what could only be described as a fantasy world with three moons in the night sky and a castle in the distance. Jamie blushed slightly.

"There's one that's actually got Diagon Alley on the other side, but it's further back, and it's not coloured like this one." He licked his lips a little. "I swear I don't draw just the Leaky and its patrons," he said, glancing at Malcolm a moment with a faintly sheepish grin.

"I know, but I'd want to," Malcolm said, leaving the part about how he didn't have much of anyone else to spend his money on and how he thought he should spend it on a bloke he fancied and liked spending time around. Making Jamie happy made Malcolm happy, and really, that was all that would be needed right?

Malcolm nodded with the description of the flat, it sounded like a good idea. "That sounds brilliant. Most artists would kill for something like that, for sure. You'll have to find it in a good location, too. Even if its got bedrooms and stuff, there are magical construction companies that can move walls and stuff for you."

He watched in fascination as Jamie turned the page, leaning in to look at some detail before snuggling back against Jamie's side. "That's really cool. Do you miss Hogwarts? Or is it that you just like drawing castles? And drawing Leaky and patrons isn't a bad thing, its what you know and what you see daily. I bet you see lots of interesting people."

Jamie decided to drop the topic of art supplies. He didn't want to fuss over it, especially with Malcolm being sick. He didn't want Malcolm to waste his money on him, but in the end, it was Malcolm's money to do with what he wanted. Still, that didn't mean he had to be comfortable with it or even expect it, but he'd not fuss over it anymore. At least, not for the time being.

"Yeah," he said about the location. "And I don't know if i have money to hirer construction workers. Not right away anyway." He had money saved, but he wasn't sure it was enough to include drastic renovations. He'd have to see once he found a place he liked.

Jamie shook his head a little. "I just liked the image and thought of a fantasy world existing just beyond a brick wall, sort of like how Narnia was at the back of a wardrobe," he explained, blushing lightly again. He then turned the page to display the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
