"Who the hell are you?!"
"B. This is D." he said. "I need Batman. Arkham's going to be a hot bed tonight and I can't handle it alone. I need your help."

Famous last words, no doubt. Dick stood on top of the agreed upon building, his back against a brick wall as he lurked in silence. He really wasn't sure what to expect - Bruce had sounded perversely amused for some reason. Dick was hoping that didn't mean he was in for one of Bruce's ideas of a joke. Usually when they had gone so long without speaking, there was a lot more tension from the old man. Strangely, Bruce didn't send up that static this time.

Dick's body ached from flying the lines, but he all but didn't feel it. Instead, he tried to use the quiet downtime to rest a bit, to let his breath steady. Dick was still in the prime of his life, but it wasn't like when he was 18. 30 years on the jumplines was still hard on the body, even when you were Dick Grayson.

When was Batman going to show? Dick let his brain switch over to Nightwing mode, and he heaved out a sigh. This was all troubling for him, and in some ways it was comforting to hear that graveled voice through the comm link again. Dick missed the old asshole, even if he was a cock and was insensitive and generally made Dick always feel like he was 8 again.

Nightwing was patient. He could wait.

"Nightwing, right?" Terry made landed on the rooftop, a bit of a smirk on his face. The look on the old man's face when he'd been contacted by his old protege that hadn't seen him in years had been priceless.

Terry knew all about the first Robin, Dick Grayson, who was now known as the hero Nightwing. Actually, it had been part of his training that he knew who all of Bruce's old "disciples" had been. H even knew who Stephanie Brown was.

Of course though, Dick's expecting someone that isn't Terry.

The look on Nightwing's face was probably just as priceless. It perfectly mirrored Bruce's, and made some people (like Dick) wonder just how deep his relation with Bruce could run. After all, it was probably rather uncanny that the two had managed to skew their faces into the same expression. Comical too.

"You're not him." was the first thing that Nightwing said, stating the obvious. What the fuck? he then seethed to himself. How dare Bruce send some.. whoever that was.. when there was a serious problem in the streets of Gotham. If Bruce had meant to reassure Dick somehow of his sanity, he wasn't doing a very good job so far.

"I'm not the one that you know, but I am Batman," Terry said with a bit of a glare. "Maybe if you stuck around longer, you'd know this."

Oh man. That made Nightwing's anger flare, and he pressed his lips into a line as he took a step towards Batman, his eyes narrowed.

"I don't think that you have any room to say a damn thing about that." he then stated, his tone soft and full of fire. "I'm also not going to defend my life choices to a rookie wearing a rubber suit. If you want to hold it against anyone for my not being here, then talk to the Old Man about that."

What in the hell was all this? Nightwing was furious, though honestly he didn't have time to stand there and fight with some kid when Gotham needed him. Obviously the only way to see any resolution was to talk to Bruce, but Nightwing didn't have time right then, and he wasn't exactly sure he wanted to either.

"I'm not holding anything against anyone," Terry said with a scowl. "So you left-not my problem."

He made his way to the roof. "I don't have time to deal with this right now. In case you haven't noticed, there's a riot at Arkham that's about to go down. I don't have time for to put up with this bullshit. If you have a problem with me and what I'm doing, talk to the Old Man."

"That was why I called you." said Nightwing flatly. "The riot. I can't handle this alone, you can't handle this alone - neither could the Old Man back in his prime. If we don't work together, we may have more funerals to go to. Even if you're new, you've gotta know about those that have been lost. I'm not particularly into attending funerals."

Scowling, Nightwing realized in that moment that whoever the new Bat was, it wasn't him who he should be angry it. It was the Old Man. He growled a bit, grinding his teeth in aggravation before he looked at Batman and said "Look. Can we just get Arkham dealt with and then sort this out later?"
