The Moonlight Flit, the private -- and very discreet -- plane of the Muir Island Research Center, started to touch down at the appropriate landing area at the Xavier Institute.

Danielle's tail was already wagging as several of them waited for the plane to open up.
And when their family comes out, there is some mutual pouncing.

"Mummy! Da!"
"My Stars," Hrimhari greets them enthusiastically, first hugging Moira tightly before shifting down to full-wolf form to nuzzle at Danielle.

The temporary neglect of others present is not intended to be a discourtesy, certainly.

Moira stands next to him smiling and, just for the sake of things, "Da, this is Lucas Moonstar, Lucas, this is my Da." "Its an honor, sir." Lucas replies, shifting his stance and lowering his head, every gesture and bit of body language following the ways of wolves showing respect and submission to a superior. On greeting Hrimhari as a wolf would an alpha, then he extends his hand in turn to shake, figuring it best to greet the visitor in the ways and gestures of his world before insisting adherence to the ways of the world of man.

Said lovely daughters have been standing happily through the introductions, and Moira flashes Lucas another smile, but they are soon engrossed again in talking to Mummy for a moment.

"From what we have heard, it has been more eventful here than I had expected when we first sent the girls," Hrimhari says a little grimly as the little group in general starts walking toward the main building. Slowly. The family is definitely in no rush to get inside.

He lowers his head again as he speaks, taking every care to communicate in submissive wolf body language to a superior while he talks. He'd offer to speak wolf, but some more advanced concepts are harder to get across in the language.
"My culture is very traditional in some ways, and while things are certainly not the same as they once were, out of the sensibilities of the modern age, I still like to follow the old ways where I can. One of these is that parents have a significant hand in aspects of matchmaking. I would have asked sooner, but obviously that wasn't possible. I know you don't know me well, but I would be very grateful if you would do me the honor of granting me permission to date your daughter."

"I have no need to to tell thee, I think, how extraordinary Moira is or how precious to us. If I tried, My Rahne would fret for how very long we tarried. I could always wish to know thee better, but all I do know shows you both wanting each other's safety and happiness. Her mother's feelings art the same, I know already. Thou hast our permission."

Lucas makes sure to give the family some bonding time after the permission was asked and granted. Sooner or later he needs to ask Rahne too, as mothers' permission is also important, but it can wait. There's another matter he needs to address before the year goes much further.
Inviting the family to dinner, which he's cooked, including a number of both girls' favorites, and making sure the parents understood he was capable of being conversant in wolf, so they were welcome to speak as they were most comfortable with, he eventually settles in. After basic niceties and a blessing he hopes won't offend the Asgardians, he finally gets around to the pressing topic.

"Danielle - I've been meaning to speak to you, but a lot has been going on. Unfortunately, I can't wait much longer to bring this up, but its probably just as well your family is here."

Rahne will gleefully get him aside to assure him of it at some available opportunity. She got over her capacity to be bothered by any non-malicious form of spirituality a long time ago, so that's certainly not a concern.

Moira, in general, has practically been glowing with happiness.

They certainly like the food, and everyone's listening as Danielle says [Of course. About what?]

"I know that this isn't the long term solution that you're looking for, and should continue to look for, but if we do it before the end of the winter solstice, I believe I may be able to give you a human form, with some limitations, through magic. Shapeshifting and communication between animal and human is within my purview, and I've put a lot of work into it. Before you and your family talk about it and decide, you need to be aware of the limitations, however. You won't be in any danger at all, though there is a chance that it will fail if either my communion with the spirits is insufficient, or the spirit rejects you for some reason. It is not 100 percent certain to succeed, provided my skill and dedication is enough, and you and the spirit bond well, its very good, however."

He pauses to take a deep breath, looking between the lot of them.
"Aside from that, first, it will not be your own natural body. It will be borrowed from a willing spirit, meaning you will almost certainly look Native American, but you will be able to dress and act as you wish aside from that. Second, almost as important, you will have to choose to be in human form either from sun up to sun down, or sun down to sun up, it cannot be both. You will have to take wolf form during one or the other. You will be able to resume wolf form at any time, but unlike your sister, you won't be a true shapeshifter. If you take wolf form during your human cycle in a day, you won't be able to change back again until the next day. The transformation will happen either at sun up or sun down, as you choose. Finally, the spirit will demand at least one boon. I can help negotiate it if you have offers, but you must fulfill the terms of the boon. The spirits occasionally understand great disruptions, but you will have to do your best to stick to it. Typical examples would be dedicating a portion of your hunts to the spirit, setting a place at your table for one meal a day for the spirit, or undertaking a quest once a season to clean up a sacred site or burial site. Other things are possible, but if you fail in the boon, you will at least temporarily lose the ability to take human form."

The family in general stir a little uncomfortably at the first mention of using magic, not because they have a problem with magic itself, but the attempts to make arrangements to fix the problem with Asgardian magic had not gone well.

But they listen, and Danielle is obviously very interested.
[I really appreciate your offering, Lucas. I know it would take a lot. We'll need to think about this a little...I realize there isn't much more time.]

"No, there isn't. And I wouldn't be able to try again until the summer solstice. I've heard about your earlier attempts to use magic, and while like I said, I can't promise success, this should work, partly because its a very different approach, partly because this is directly one of the strengths of shamanic magic, mostly because its not trying to reverse anything completely, more like working around the effect. Definitely talk it over, and if you decide to try it, I will do everything I can to see it through."

"I'll go with you and help with that part, of course. Ok, the first step is going to be introducing you to the spirit. First thing tomorrow morning, at sunrise, come out and join me at the usual meditation spot. I'm going to tell you her story, about her life... we're going to spend the day doing that so you can get used to it and her. If, just before sundown, you're comfortable with it still, then I'll finish the ritual. Your family may attend, but they will have to be quiet. Neither of us can eat or drink anything, and we won't be able to leave the ritual site, so make sure you eat light tonight, and have enough water, but not too much, because once we settle in, we can't leave the circle. Have your sister or parents bring something for you to put on after the ritual is done, you'll have the one night to get used to the new form before you need to decide if you want to be human from sunup to sundown, or sundown to sun up from the next day forward. If possible, it would be best if people can see to it that we both have something substantial to eat afterwards, because its going to take a lot out of us both."
He makes sure everyone else present hears the same instructions.

But no matter what, while you can attend, throughout the day you need to not interrupt, stay out of the circle, and be absolutely quiet. We can't have help, and Danielle needs to bond with the spirit whose form she'll be borrowing and vice versa. We'll know if everything went well if she's in human form just after sun down, after which we'll both be tired, weak and starving, and need all the help we can get. Please let me know if there's any questions at all."
