[003] Aftershocks
Some entrepreneurs have taken to selling a "Disease Eradication Assurance Device" in the wake of medicine restrictions to the Third District. All you need to do is place an item inside the box, flip the switch and it will be safe to use or eat. Closer examination reveals it to be a combination of a cardboard box, a battery and a light bulb painted purple. Sadly, they appear to be selling out.

The tea supply has been unaffected. I suppose traditional medicine is considered outdated and as such, no restrictions were placed on it. However, the tea shops themselves have taken to turning away any dirt-hair that attempts to enter. A 'health and safety' precaution of some sort. I wonder if its proliferated to other parts of the Second District as well.

So the acronym for this thing is DEAD? That's not very...Well it's not very uplifting of a message.

Most people would not catch that subtlety. And if they did, I wonder if it would even matter. Panic always seems to out weight common sense.

True. But I think most people would be wary if they realized the acronym was DEAD.

I suppose they might. If they do, it begs the question of who is more to blame that the item still being sold. The people who came up with and named it so cruelly or the people who are buying it regardless of the name.

Everyone is allowed their fair share of stupidity.

I know I shouldn't find it funny, but the way you describe it as just a 'cardboard box, a battery and a light bulb painted purple' is sort amusing. But I guess people are just scared.

It is actually a very nice box. Large enough for a small child, which they apparently consider a feature. I consider it another indication that people are not thinking clearly.

Well, everyone's not as smart as you are, right?

It is a great burden to bear. Thankfully, the company I keep tends to suffer from it as well.

You need tea? I could buy some for you and give it to you. What kind of tea do you like?

... I would normally hesitate to impose but a lack of peppermint tea in a house full of small children is usually a combination best avoided. I should have enough to cover around a pound of it.

A pound of peppermint tea, okay.

Tomorrow at 12:30pm at [intersection], is that alright?

Oh, that's in the second district, in case you didn't know.

And... is there anything else you might need?

It work as a box. It can carry things. In fact, it is sold carrying two things. But as a disease eradicator, no it does not.

If they had managed to convince someone with an iota of intelligence, I would be in agreement. However, in this case, they are preying on those who don't know any better so I would call them extortionists.
