Order!
"Say cheese!"

Alice set the camera on its timer and rushed forward to slide under Frank's arm. The room filled with a chorus of 'CHEESE' and a loud grumbling of 'No' as the flash nearly blinded everyone in the room.

"Goodness, Alice," Emmeline Vance mumbled, pressing her hands into her eyes. Alice blinked a few times to try and rid her vision of the rainbow-colored spots and hurried (well, stumbled, wow--that flash was very bright) back to the camera to catch the picture as it fell out of the front. Swiftly, she held it up to watch it come into focus and instantly her vision was cleared. Oh, see. They were such a lovely bunch, even if a few of them hated each other.

You were allowed to hate someone and still look lovely together, Alice believed.

"Okay! Well!" She waved her free hand around, anyone who wanted to look at the picture (though she could probably make copies! Ooh--) could come up and snatch it away from her...not without a fight, of course, "Food is---"

Alice watched as the group immediately dispersed toward the food and drinks and other activities she and Frank and Marlie had managed to set up in the Longbottom's rather expanse backyard. Yes, the Order, while amazing crime fighters, also had the keenest sense of of smell and taste--or was it just they were really hungry?

Lily!

James pushed his glasses (sunglasses, really, but they were a nice prescription kind of thing--he'd wear these things all the bloody time if it didn't look weird to wear sunglasses inside) up his nose as he stared down at the long table of food Alice had set up. How she'd found the time for this, he really didn't have any idea, but it was more than welcome. Especially since--eh. He was in a mood because of the events of the full moon, and it really didn't help that the non-Gryffindor team had lost the pickup game.

He wouldn't even acknowledge if they really had a name, that was how...not important it was.

As he poked at the jello mold with the end of his spoon, James felt before he saw his wife sidle up beside him. Ha--in a little over a week was their first anniversary. The thought made James lean over and kiss the top of Lily's head before he decided to take the scooper--thing and drop a big wobbly piece of jello onto his plate.

"Could you imagine getting stuck in jello?"

Lily smirked and returned with a peck on her husband's cheek--seriously, could you believe they'd been married almost a year now?--and picked up a plate off the buffet line. This was nice, she thought as she shot a glance around at all of them assembled there. The Order generally only saw each other like this when there was something serious to talk about or after some catastrophe had happened. To have everyone just hanging out, having a good time, was so different. And much needed, as far as she was concerned.

After all, July also marked a much less pleasant anniversary, and it was all that Lily could do lately to find things to keep her mind off of it.

"Stuck in jello?" she repeated with a laugh. Honestly, where he came up with some of the things he said, she would never know. "I reckon how I imagine it would depend on the flavor."

"That is a valid point, Mrs. Potter," James said with a solemn nod, lifting the plate up to eye-level to watch it jiggly thoroughly. This could be a very lethal weapon, if used correctly. James turned a bit, ear almost pressing to his shoulder as he looked down at Lily, "Who would you like to stick in a big bowl of this concoction?"

Because, it was very doable. Very doable. James could think of about twenty people that he'd like to jam rather far down into a lake of jello, right off the top of his head. Wasn't exactly murder, but oh--it was a very unique variation of torture, indeed.

Actually, there were a few of those people at this party, and James made an obvious show of this as he tilted his head down to gaze across the field of chatting guests.

"What a question," she muttered, but the tone of her voice portrayed amusement rather than annoyance. Lily pursed her lips as if she were actually thinking very hard about how to answer, and her eyes scanned the crowd of Order members surrounding them. Still seeming to think about it, she put a scoop of the jello on her own plate and stared down into it for a long moment as if she were divining the answer through a crystal ball, then turned back to the others, then back to James.

"You know, I think of anyone, Gideon could use a good dip," she finally responded. Not that she was actually contemplating sticking him in a super-sized jello mold, of course, but the man could use some lightening up once in a while. "But I wouldn't want to submerge him completely---nah, I think we should just stick him in there halfway and let him holler at us."

James let out a somewhat high-pitched sound; it was almost as if he was going to laugh shrilly but had caught himself and turned it into something along the lines of a wavering sigh. Bothering Gideon really was one of his favorite things to do, or watch, really, because he hadn't done much of that in years. Yet, until recently, the man still kind of had it out for James' blood. Unsure as to what he'd done to ever deserve that (though James did not doubt that he had. He was James Potter, after all), he'd mostly just ignored the glares and under the breath comments.

"I think--I would pay good money for that," James said with a nod, lips twisting to hold back another laugh. His smirk though was immense, and his mind began to work. "How long do you think filling up a pool would take?"

Again, hypothetically speaking.

Except he hadn't pulled a prank like that in what felt like years, how amazing would it be to actually set one off with Lily and not have her scold him for setting a bad example? No, no, he had to at least test the waters here. Even if it wasn't Prewett---Dearborn always needed to be knocked down a notch or two or a five thousand.

Hypothetically.

Lily shook her head, but she was chuckling quietly to herself all the way. When James talked about it, it almost made her want to pull it off as well; it'd be the perfect thing to keep her preoccupied, after all. But that mature, responsible Lily voice was yelling in her head that doing such a thing as filling up a pool with jello and sticking one of their friends into it was ludicrous and childish and that she shouldn't engage in it. It was, after all, James and Sirius' jobs to make trouble---they did a good enough job of it around the Order that Lily wasn't sure they'd survive having another prankster running around.

Oh, what the hell was she talking about? Lily wanted to prank the hell out of someone and she knew it.

Damn him and his bad influence.

She put a hand to her chin. "I believe that would depend on how many people you had filling it up," she told him with a sagely nod. "For instance, if it was just you, then it may take quite a while longer than if you had someone else helping you. In any case, though, I think you'd want to go a little smaller. Say, a bathtub. Or perhaps a very large pumpkin."

They were all going to get twenty copies each of this picture, Frank just knew it. Not that he particularly minded that fact (though between him, Alice, and all the other copies she would have made, that meant they at least would have sixty copies floating around), it was just... a lot. And sometimes, a lot of extras meant making them into something else. Like a scrapbook. Multiple scrapbooks. And don't get him wrong, he liked Alice's scrapbooks, just not helping her make them.

Honestly, he was doomed either way, so there was no use trying to do anything about it. Though it was entirely possible to hide a whole room of lost pictures in there house without her ever finding them...

Frank thought about this (and not a certain recent quidditch loss that was certain to burn in his mind forever), with his cup high near his mouth. His eyes wandered across the small gathering (because Alice told him he had to stay here until everyone left), looking for--- ah, yes.

With nothing less than a wide smirk across his face, Frank waltzed away from the drinks table. "Emmeline, I need to talk to you," he said sternly, using the most convincing auror voice possible as he placed himself between his cousin and her--- Caradoc Dearborn. Frank didn't glance over his shoulder at him, though he was quite sure the other Order member was trying to kill him with his mind. Oh, he loved it. "Now." And without her response, Frank grabbed onto her elbow to tug her back to where he had been standing before.

Yes, he definitely loved this. Frank's face quickly released smoothly as they were out of earshot, and he smiled. "So what's new?"

"Oh, that's not obvious at all," Emmeline drawled, but she was smiling soon after and did not bother to look over her shoulder to send a sympathetic look toward Caradoc. Really, it was rather ridiculous, but she did enjoy it when Frank wanted her attention, even if it was mostly to piss off her boyfriend. Now that they both had terribly busy schedules, Emmeline had no idea how she was going to manage to keep up with her favorite cousin, but. There'd always be time for Frank.

And apparently this time was one of those times!

She rapped her fingers against her lips for a moment as if in deep thought, and then laid her hand out, finding her brilliant addition to the conversation, "My internship nearly killed me this week!"

Emmeline's expression wasn't of terror or depression, however. No--she'd gotten all of that out of her system that first night with Caradoc. Okay...and maybe there had been a supplies closet she'd locked herself into during her lunch break on Wednesday, but that was all, everything else had gone rather smoothly.

"I was shadowing a healer from artifacts accidents and this guy came in with a--I kid you not--grand piano around his waist, and he--" Emmeline gestured toward her own stomach, pressing into it, "Pushed me into the wall and I had to start playing some Beethoven to get his attention."

Oh, her expression was that of immense pride, actually.

Frank was paying attention to what Emmeline was saying, he really was. Granted, he was listening to her more than actually willing to look at her, but. It was just too hard, within perfect view of Caradoc's reaction just over Emmeline's shoulder. It was too hard not to watch.

So, Frank gave an interested hum of a response once he noticed her pause, and held a devious smirk as he watched Caradoc's face screw up for a few seconds. They made eye contact, and then--- well where was the fun in annoying him if he wasn't even going to react at all? Frank suppressed a sigh as he watched Caradoc easily turn his heel on them, and walk away.

"What did he do to get the grand piano there?" Frank inquired, catching the end of Emmeline's story. See? Look at how good of an auror he was already. Focusing on two things--- already a mastered skill. His face twitched into a smile, and Frank took a deep breath. This was good; Emmeline actually looked happy.

"Apparently," she continued, not noticing for a second that Frank's attention wasn't fully on her. All right--so sue her if she liked having someone listen to her stories, or even care. Especially Frank, because really, people had their parents or siblings to look up and try to impress and so--she had Frank. And that was that, and she was not going to apologize about talking his ear off whenever she had the opportunity--

"It was for a muggle magic show." Emmeline had to stifle her own laughter before she continued, putting a finger up to show that indeed, there was more to this, "He wanted his assistant to drop the piano on his head, like--scare the audience out of their minds as the rope dropped closer and closer so he like---"

Her hands flailed around her sides, front and back, "He put the permeable spell on the piano and began walking around through it right, but, honestly." Emmeline shook her head as if this was the dumbest thing she'd ever heard, which unfortunately it wasn't, "Anyone who knows anything knows that those kind of spells are only temporary, and they didn't know if making the piano permeable again if that would make him all--"

She pushed her hand through the air and poked Frank in the stomach.

"Squishy."

Marlie bounced a little on the soles of her feet as she leaned across to take the photo from Emmeline's hand. It was probably an actress thing - or a vain thing, you know, one or the other - but she always had to see how she looked like after taking a photograph. She grinned, mirroring the large grin imprinted on the glossy paper. Aw. It was a really good picture of all of them - she would definitely demand a copy or two.

Passing the photo to an eager hand reaching over her shoulder, she sauntered around the room for awhile, making cheerful small talk with nearly everyone. Taking a small break from that, she patted James and Lily's arms and took a seat near a tall tree with a glass of sweet elf wine in hand. Legs akimbo in front of her, though she still managed to look graceful, she grinned at the person approaching her, patting a patch of grass by her. "Hiii, I still can't believe that the Gryffindors lost that pickup game!"

Alice dropped down slowly, because---what if they ran out of cheese? Or the punch got cold and they needed more ice and cooling spells? See---she always did this. Well, with the few parties she'd actually thrown, she always immediately regretted offering to host them. She would rather she host them than anyone else, but Alice tended to fret like no other when it came to her guests.

"Frank won't talk about it," Alice said somewhat distractedly as she watched the Potters scoop out jello. Then, she blinked and realized that she was sitting and talking with Marlie, who she felt like she hadn't spoken to in years and suddenly Alice could not care if James and Lily dumped all of the jello and desserts into the pond.

Well, she'd care, but she'd probably miss them do it, she was so focused on Marlie.

"It was fun though, I mean--right? I don't want anyone in a bad mood over it." She wanted to say 'it was just a game' but Alice had learned quickly that quidditch was much more than a game. "It's nice to have everyone together."
