Stupid Boy :]
She probably should not have stabbed the cadaver as much as she did. Erin grimaced and picked up her wand, fixing the mess she'd made and pushed the body back into the wall of cabinets of the laboratory. That was the third time she'd done that today, and it was probably a good idea to just go home and forget about work, but Avis was out for some training session with the new aurors (Will was an official auror! Erin was so proud!), and she needed to be in charge.

Erin let out a breath and started back to the main tables, tying up her hair (which was a mess, holy shit--) and slipping off the lab robes because she'd splattered...something, on them. Ugh. Her eyes drifted across the room to her desk where she'd left her journal and...sighed. She wasn't very proud of herself, but at least she'd gotten a reaction from Rafe, right? It was something and...she...didn't know. She still didn't know what to do.

Fucking--stupid quidditch. Stupid cup, stupid team. Erin couldn't fathom hating a sport this much, but she was quite sure she could do without ever hearing the word quidditch again in her life.

She propped up onto a stool and swiveled around slowly as her shoulders slumped; as much as she hated to admit it, she missed that stupid boy.

Rafe shook his robes and dusted himself off when he stepped out of the grate. The distance was too far for apparating so the only timely option left to him had been the floo system. As soon as his feet hit the floor of the lobby in the Ministry they started moving. The normally cordial young man simply barreled his way through the small crowd headed for the exits. He glanced at his watch to see that was hovering right at quitting time. Merlin, he hoped she was still there.

Truth be told, Rafe couldn't believe that he'd actually left Monaco without so much as a second thought. He'd seen her entry, then her snippy reply to him, and he knew he couldn't stay away any longer. Now as he stepped into the elevator, thoughts of the possible ramifications of his spontaneous disappearance finally hit him. Finn was not going to be happy, that much Rafe knew. He quietly hoped that things with Erin would be smoothed out quickly enough that he would be back in Monaco before anyone missed him. Rafe didn't count that possibility as a likely one. Erin was more upset with him than he'd ever seen. The very thought of it made him fidget uncomfortably until the elevator reached the floor where her lab was located.

Rafe took several deep calming breaths as soon as he was in the corridor. Dread filled him as he approached the door. If she dumped him, this time he knew she'd be gone for good. The very thought of it made his insides twist in anxiously tight knots. He couldn't lose her, not again. Rafe could not function without Erin Jugson in his life.

Entering the lab, he saw her sitting at a station and his stomach dropped to his ankles. She didn't just look sad, she look depressed. The usual warmth in her face was replaced by a grim expression that jab a pillar of ice into his chest. All of this was his fault.

"Hey," Rafe said simply as he stepped cautiously into the lab. His eyes were on her and his hand made nervous scratches at his hair.

Her chair had had its back to him when he entered the lab, and as it made its slow turn around, Erin had caught him out of the corner of her eye. She'd thought it was Booth, and was about to lazily let out that Avis wasn't going to be here for a while when she turned fully around and was able to see that it was Rafe.

Erin's knees banged up onto the table in shock, nearly toppling off the stool afterward. She couldn't believe her eyes, and it wasn't only shock from seeing him right now, it was the fact that she hadn't seen him in what could literally be months and he was there, and holy mother of everything---holy!

"What are you doing here!" she let out quickly, rushing forward even though her knees were now throbbing. Erin's hands were out and made to grab at Rafe's arms, but she stopped herself. Wait--oh, hell. This could only be a good thing, right? He'd gotten her message, he'd---he's come all the way from Monaco straight to her, because it had barely been an hour and...and...

Oh, hell. This stupid boy was going to be the death of her.

Erin didn't let him respond, all of her thoughts were going so fast that everything she'd just let rush through her brain had probably taken a nanosecond. She let out a choking sound as tears burst to her eyes and she slammed herself into Rafe's chest. Oh, fucking hell, she was far, far emotional about all of this than she'd been putting on. Erin had tried to play it off like it was nothing, that eh---she'd had boyfriends before, but holy crap.

Holy crap. She really, really hadn't wanted to break up with Rafe.

"I wasn't going to break up with you!" she squeaked, pouting greatly up at him through her watery eyes.

It wasn't exactly the reaction he'd been expecting, but thank Merlin it was the one he'd been hoping for.

Letting her question fall as a rhetorical, his expression weakened with longing when Erin rushed him. The second of hesitation on her part did sting, but it was soon forgotten. Rafe looped his strong arms around the tiny blond in the over-sized lab coat and squeezed her to him until even he couldn't breathe. It had been too long.

But she hadn't really wanted to break up with him. Not that he felt any better about the whole thing. Seeing her tears was more than enough cause for him to feel like a complete wanker.

Rafe winced at her words. One of his large hands went to caress a calloused palm over her flushing cheek before hugging her to the chest of his robes. His chin drooped forward as he hung his head with a heavy sigh pressing out of his lungs.

"I'm sorry, I just..." The words caught on a sudden lump in his throat. Rafe swallowed roughly and slipped his fingertips into her hair. Instinctively, his fingers seized at a few locks and consequently mussed her ponytail. He'd missed her badly.

"I should have come sooner."

"I'm sorry, too," she let out in a weepy tone, sniffling greatly. "It was--immature and---and not nice and--"

Erin let out a great breath, pulling back slightly but not out of his grasp. God, it was exhausting going from furious to depressed to overjoyed to guilty to...to...she had no idea what she was feeling now. Loved, for sure, the fact that he'd come for her right away and was holding her so tight. Erin could just feel that he had missed her just as much as she'd missed him, and it was a good feeling, it was just--would it last?

They'd done this before, they'd had their fights over quidditch all throughout Hogwarts and his time spent focusing on it and--Erin understood that it was his job, it was his love for the game, but other people had lives outside of the sport, right? Right! Joy! Joy and Finn went on dates during the season, he paid attention to her, they had a baby and still managed--not that--well, she had thought about having kids with Rafe, but not---that he actually--

"I'm sorry, I just--I don't want to lose you again and I didn't know what else to do and...sorry," she said with a deep sigh, looking down between them. Her foot nudged his in some sort of apology. Her sisters were going to tear the mickey out of her for that bloody entry, oy.
