While Olympia was beautiful, calm, peaceful and overall pleasant, not to mention cold, it really wasn't home to Kalypso. That would always be New York and right now she wanted nothing more than the polluted filled air, noisy streets teaming with people and the congestion of New York.

She hated to think of all the school work she was missing by not going to class. Not that she particularly liked sitting in class, but she wouldn't have to make up a ton of work. While she had dragged her feet about going to start, once classes had started, she really hadn't minded going. It did get her out of manual labor for her mother.

Kal occupied herself with wandering around the city. She didn't get the chance for much exploring the last time she was here and now she had nothing but time on her hands. She explored the city when she wasn't spending time in the Hall of Memories (basically the library/records hall) learning about her people's history.

The time here also gave her the chance to get to know her family better, but she missed Jack like crazy. She wished he could have been here with her. It would have made the visit a little more pleasant.

Olympia isn't home to Iason mainly just because he doesn't consider himself to have a home. While Kal was reaised 'Earthy', having a boyfriend, schooling and the rest, he's been a wanderer and student of the universe much of his young life.
This is just another phase, and another time to demonstrate patience. Mortal matters sometimes need to sort themselves out - his father especially has been big on that.

He spends most of his time in exile reading, and spending some time learning a couple of instruments.

While he wasn't Jack, it was nice having Iason here as well. There was someone else around who had been born in the same decade as her. Outside of Iason, the people closest to her in age were already a few thousand years old. Most of the time talks with them ended up with stories of things that happened hundred of years before Kal was even born.

When she wanted to talk to someone and not get a history lesson in the process, Kal sought out Iason. Like she was currently doing.

He glances up from his reading when she enters. "Greetings, cousin. You look restless."

Kal flopped down on a chair next to him. "Is it that obvious?"

Kal sighed. "I want to go home. I'm tired of hearing stories of things that happened hundreds of years before I was born. I miss Jack and I'm going to have a ton of school work to do."

She stopped her complaining and looked at him. "You seem to be taking this all in stride."

"You know my father. We have plenty of our own things we need to consider. Sometimes mortal politics need to take their course in their own time. And, like it or not, the disposition of SHIELD is definitely politics."

"Your father is a little too detached from the world at times," Kal grumbled. Kal was born into the thick of human affairs and had a fondness for humans like her mother.

He laughs at that. "Most Eternals would say my father is far too fond of mortals and their world. He's married multiple of them, after all. He's not either of your parents, but he's a lot closer to them than most, and very fond of them. But he's also struggled with major changes in ages, and the deaths of lovers and wives. Some detachment, at times, might be healthy."

"I guess," she relented. "This isn't normal and if SHIELD has its way, it could affect things on a global scale."

He nods. "Nothing in the Avenger's world is normal. Threats are a constant. But if the Eternals got involved and toppled all the harsh regimes and improper dictators and organizations, this world wouldn't even exist. There'd likely be no Avengers had we stopped World War II. Mortals are capable of dealing with many things themselves... this may be one of those that they have to, and should."

"If this is the start of taking out the heroes, do you think SHIELD would stop with the humans? They could turn their attention to here. I just don't think we should stand aside and go along with what they tell us."

"I don't either. I just don't think we need to be ready to rush to the rescue every time a crisis threatens. We need to give them some time to sort it out, keep an eye on the situation, and be ready to act. If we rush in to help them now, and everything doesn't go perfectly, we commit an illegal act that weakens their position, and could easily prove to the world that this new position of Avengers as bad guys is right and justified, especially if we fail. If the Avengers decide that they need to take action, I'll be right there with them... but they need to make that decision, not have me make it for them."

"They're the Avengers. They have mages and psychics on speed dial and in their roster. You think they couldn't contact us if they really felt it necessary? They're capable people, they don't need us for everything, and if they do, they'll let us know."

"Its not boring here, there's a thousand things to do. New
York won't always exist, at least not as you know it. You can't get too attached, and even your mother has her share of time spent in Olympia."

He sighs, face going grim. "I know it sounds cold. But if we take action now, we risk everything for them on their behalf. Part of what makes mortals so interesting, so vital, is risk. If we take that away from them too often, they lose that. Even your mother didn't join the Avengers, didn't avert countless crises, until she was asked."

Kal sighed. "I'm one of them," she said. "I grew up as one of them, not an Eternal. I'm still trying to learn what it means to be an Eternal. Of course I want to be involved because I grew up in the middle of it. I didn't grow up detached from them like everyone else in our family."

He nods. "I know. And I realize that I haven't been part of the mortal world long, on either side. I've seen dozens of cultures, but always as an observer... an Eternal. My dad is passionate about humanity, he loves them, and the Eternals have modeled themselves in a lot of ways after another age of humanity. There is admiration there. But this is an opportunity to learn what being an Eternal is like. And sooner or later, you're going to need to. A lot of those stories from a long time ago that you talk about... with my dad, a lot of them are about how hard it was to lose his first wife... and second... and so on. And that was with the distance he has."

Anya was bored. Beyond bored. Way beyond bored. Someone had done their homework and knew that the best way to torture a Stark was with boredom. Sure they were kind enough to let her keep her school books, but she had already read through them twice. Well at least she would be caught up when she returned to her classes. If she ever returned to her classes.

Anya sighed heavily. She now knew what her mother meant by hating it when the past caught up to her. Anya knew that someday the Lady Mandarin stuff would catch up to her; she just never thought it would be like this. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been the least of her concerns regarding what happened a year ago. Had it really been a whole year already? It seemed like forever instead of twelve short months.

While she knew that what was going on at SHIELD was temporary, at least she hoped it was, she didn’t want to think of what other consequences would come out of the Lady Mandarin stuff. She would hopefully get out of here, but if the regular police or government found out about her being Lady Mandarin, she’d be sitting in a jail cell for the rest of her life. There was no statute of limitations on murder.

Actions had consequences. If she hadn’t learned the lesson before, she had now. It didn’t matter that she did it while brainwashed. The fact was she did it. Her actions, her choices lead to her becoming Lady Mandarin. Her parents were big on her taking responsibility for her actions and accepting the consequences that came.

She paced her cell.

She didn’t expect five star accommodations, but this wasn’t even a nice cell. The walls were concrete and a steel door with an old mechanical lock completed it. There wasn’t even an electrical light in the cell. The small light appeared to be chemical in nature. Someone had done their homework. There wasn’t any way she could use the nanites in her system to try to break out of here and to disrupt SHIELD systems. She could feel the low EM field around the cell. It took concentration to walk and move her legs. She didn’t have a doubt that if she tried to break out of here, the field would be cranked up and she would be paralyzed.

There was no human contact outside of one visitor a few times. A blonde named Virgo. She came in a few times and chatted with Anya, but nothing of consequence. She was the only person Anya saw. Even her meals were pushed through a slot in the door.

She sighed and continued to pace.

Eliza hated her own cell. It was a touch too bright for her eyes. She knew there was no chance she could get out either. She could pick normal non-electric locks with dubious at best results. It wasn't something she was good at. This cell just spoke of keeping her in.

So she sang every song she could think of. She wasn't a great singer but she was passable and could at least carry a tune better than most. It was a way to keep herself busy. S.H.I.E.L.D wasn't forthcoming with anything and it just didn't shock the Romanova girl at all.

But she was worried about James. Anya too but she had a soft spot for her little brother. He was like her in a few important ways. Like not being from 'this' Earth. Somehow it seemed important.

James didn't do any better with being confined than his siblings. He initially spent a lot of time pacing and trying to find a way out.

He wanted out. The reason they were holding him was bogus. There wasn't a problem a year ago when he got here and Mom had taken care of setting up his identification. Now they had a problem with him not being from this world. Something was up and it wasn't good.

When it seemed like he wasn't going to get out anytime soon, he put his time to better use. He started doing sit-ups, push-ups, and any other exercise he could do to keep up his strength and keep him focused.
