Who: Estella Derrick and Caden Flint
What: She's sad about him having to LEAVE HER FOR A MONTH GOD xD but jk they get happy again
Where: Caden's bedroom (not like that you perverts---okay well it is them so maybe a little)
"I think," Estella started softly, picking at the tip of her fingernails. She had herself pushed up on her elbows, pressing into the mattress of Caden's bed. Her legs bent back and her ankles crossed, and she would have looked incredibly relaxed had her foot not been moving back and forth as quickly as it was, "I am going to have to have a talk with Finn."
She smiled over at Caden though, hopefully hiding her worry. She was proud of him for making the team (because--it was a very big honor, of course!) but after the celebration ('Jacob' wanted to congratulate him with a cake) and somehow getting both boys down for a nap, Estella found herself dreading what could quite possibly be a full month without Caden. Which had a good chance of happening, looking at the team they'd assembled, and she couldn't stop the thoughts of wanting them to lose that crept into her mind. She felt immediately guilty for them, but, they were there.
Ugh. He was here until June, don't be a drag, she scolded herself. Quiet time was rare, especially to be so relaxed during it. Usually she took nap time to finish chores or other work that needed to get done, but lying here and just whispering to Caden as if not to mess up the peace they'd found was much nicer.
"Try to see if he could move the tournament to...I dunno..." Her eyes rolled to the ceiling as if in deep thought, before they jotted down to Caden, "Puddlemere. That's close."
Even before she finished her sentence, he knew where this conversation was going. He wasn't stupid, and knew that even though she was acting excited, and was genuinely happy for him, she still didn’t really want him to go. Caden had tried to be as casual as he could about it once he had seen the list, which was pretty easy considering that he wasn’t one to jump up and down whenever he was happy, but this really was a great opportunity. Of all the players in the league, of all the teams out there, he was one of the three players to be chosen to play for the European cup.
“Oh yeah?” He spoke with a small smirk, keeping his voice down as well. He was currently leaning his back against the headboard of his bed, sunk down low with his knees bent. His head was turned so he could see her, occasionally distracted by the movements her foot kept making. It had been long enough that he could read her body language, and could see past when she was just putting on a happy face for him. “I’m sorry to tell you, love, but Finn doesn’t make that decision. You could try talking to him until your face turns blue, but all you’ll really be doin’ is inflating his ego, letting him know you think he’s in charge of where the cup takes place. And believe me, that isn’t something you want to be doing.”
This wasn’t the response she was looking for, and he knew that. So, he sighed gently and scooted down a little bit further, his hand moving to brush his thumb against the side of her elbow. “This is a once in a life time opportunity for me, Stell…and it’ll only be a month.”
She couldn't keep the pout on her face as he gently shot down her idea; Estella couldn't help it, and grinned. Though she was glad that she'd managed to become friends with Finn, it made life a lot easier. With him being Caden's best friend, oh, she had really hoped he liked her, but sometimes she found herself talking more to Finn than she did anyone else at the gathering, or whatever they were doing. So--that was good, and Estella dropped her head to her shoulder to listen to the rest of what he had to say, and simply watch him. It was always nice to see Caden...well, happy, and she knew he was holding back a bit, but she could tell; he was excited.
Only a month. A month was a long time, Estella was very good at making time drag, and she hadn't exactly figured out how to make it fly like so many people said it did. She smiled softly though, and pulled her ear off her shoulder to drop her head down, ducking her chin low.
"I know, it's fantastic, Caden, honestly," she looked at him, to make sure that he could see that she really was incredibly proud of him. Merlin, to imagine that nearly a year ago she didn't know who he was, and now he was--a league champion, and about ready to go off and represent their country...it was bloody insane, the chances that life took. Definitely wasn't regretting this one, though, and Estella pressed her knuckles to her mouth, "I'm just gonnamissyou," she mumbled, feeling the blush creep up her neck.
“…but?” He knew there was more to this, and with a tilt of his head, he waited for her to continue on. It was a great feeling to know that she was proud of him, and he couldn’t help but smirk a little bit as she finally did look at him, even though it faded slightly after she spoke again. His eyes didn’t move from her own as he reached out for the hand that was now pressed against her mouth, pulling it towards him as he leaned down to kiss the knuckles that were previously against her own lips.
“I’m gonna miss you too. You know I will.” He shifted their hands so that he was holding onto it better. “And you also know I’m going to write to you whenever I get the chance, and you know I’m going to be thinking about you all the time.” He turned towards her, moving his other arm around to run his fingers through her hair, since the hand closest to her was still busy holding onto hers. “I’ll be back before you know it.”
"Uggggh," she let out, but her smile at the idea of owls and just Caden thinking about her couldn't be helped. Merlin, she felt like a school girl, pining after her older boyfriend who she wouldn't be able to hold hands with in the corridors anymore. Estella pouted greatly, not really upset, but touched and--okay, still upset by the idea of not being able to see him, but she was more moved than anything. Letting out a dramatic sigh she pulled her hand out of his but only to push herself under his arm and bury herself into his chest. How was she going to manage without being able to touch him for so long? Or--oh, he always smelled so good, he was going to have to leave his cologne.
She draped her arm over his chest and Estella let out a hard breath from her nose, "Why do you have to be so good, hm?"
She let out a short giggle, though, eyes scrunching shut as she tried to bite back her laughter. Oh, who was she trying to fool? It was fucking fantastic, Caden was bloody fantastic and now the world (well, Europe!) was going to see. How could she bother feeling blue when he was going to go and do something so brilliant? Estella's eyes shot open, the arm across his chest slinking back so that her hand could lay gently on his cheek. "I'm so proud of you."
The noise she made caused him to give a soft smile, watching her pout as he played with the ends of her hair. He wasn’t leaving until next month, but just thinking about what he would be away from was enough to make him think, even for just a moment, about not going at all. But that would be really fucking stupid on his part. As much as he loved Estella, and he did love her, more than anything, he couldn’t let this opportunity slip through his fingers. It’d take an idiot to turn down the European cup.
As she moved to lean against him, he wrapped his arm around her and held her close, his hand moving up to resume playing with the ends of her brunette strands, while his other hand stayed occupied by trailing his fingers along her arm. Her comment caused him to smirk, but it turned into a larger smile, maybe even a grin, when he heard her giggle. “It’s a curse.” Once again she shifted positions, but her next set of words caused him to get more serious, giving her a nod that said what he would speak moments later. “I know…” He cupped the side of her face and kissed the top of her head before moving his mouth down to reach her lips. It was gentle and sweet, and lasted only a few moments, long enough, since he pulled away shortly after to look at her again. “I really don’t think you know how much that means to me…how much you mean to me.”
Her heart being ready to pound straight through her chest told Estella that she knew exactly what he was feeling. Every last bit of her felt ready to start shaking and bouncing with excitement, but the fact that she could control herself more of a hint than anything about how seriously she took her relationship with Caden. Never had she thought she'd be able to find herself so deeply in love with someone, but it was absolutely undeniable that she could love anyone more. The voice that scolded her for that, the one that used to say that she used to think those things about Jake was completely silenced. Not in a bad way, she would always love her first husband, but her heart, body, and mind could never have imagined all the rush of feelings that Caden Flint sent through her, and Estella reveled in it.
"I think I have an idea," she murmured, pushing herself up to hover over him. Her hair dropped over her shoulders and she leaned in close enough to press her forehead hard against his, eyes shutting and taking in the silence. Estella could feel her heart pounding in her ears, and sometimes she made herself so dizzy thinking about Caden and all he meant and did to her that she felt ready to topple over, but not now. "But I think you should show me."
Estella grinned, not waiting for Caden to respond before kissing him and letting her body drop onto his. Ungh, she loved him so much; she needed to get in all the time she had before he went off to be a superstar.
She wasn’t the only one who was surprised by her feelings, since he himself had gone through the exact same thing. He had lost his wife, and never thought he could ever love again, but there he was…laying on his bed with a beautiful woman who made his stomach do flips whenever she spoke, no matter what she said. She sent a tingle up his spine whenever she touched him, she made his heart pound whenever she kissed him, she made him forget how to breathe at times. The sweet, clean smell of whatever perfume she wore, or whatever soap she used made him want to just lay next to her for hours. She could be wearing no make up, dressed in sweats with her hair messed up and he would still find her beautiful. Everything about her was amazing, and he was so lucky. He was so lucky to have found her, because something inside told him that he would have gone forever being alone if they hadn’t crossed paths that one day. It was so strange…his son was the reason he had lost Mackenzie, but the reason he had found Estella.
Maybe it was fate…as fucked up as that was.
His words were caught in his throat as she kissed him, causing him to groan. His hand slid down to grab onto her leg, pulling it towards him so she would push herself upwards to that one of her legs were on either side of him. She was now sitting on his stomach, his legs still bent at the knee behind her. His hands moved to take hold of her face, really doing his best to kiss her as deeply and lovingly as he could, his eyes shut tightly. Eventually, his hands moved back through her hair, lips pulling back from hers so he could kiss the side of her mouth, her cheek, her jaw, traveling down her neck, gripping at the brunette strands beneath his palms. His chest was rising and falling with each deep breath he took.
God damn it, she was intoxicating…
