She pulled the invisibility cloak tighter over herself, taking in deep, steady breaths. The streets of Godric's Hollow were calm, still, not a person in sight as it was rather late; in the houses of the muggles in the area, you could see the telly flickering through the windows. Alice couldn't see the Order members hidden about the town, but she had a rough idea of where they were all located. It was strange to have the upper hand for once, but she knew it wouldn't last for long, no matter how pessimistic a thought. The tip to Dumbledore had arrived with a good amount of time before nightfall and had given the Order a lot of time to prepare for whatever was going to strike the small village.

James had been adamant about being one of those to go and find Sirius, but it was obvious that with his past relations with the death eaters that they couldn't risk it. Alice knew that Frank was eager to help as well, but it was finally decided on who was to stay and who was to go, and things would just have to deal.

Alice slowly made her way through a garden of one of the small cottages. She couldn't help but peer through the kitchen window, eyes softening at the sight of a daughter helping her mother was the dishes. These people were completely innocent; why had Voldemort decided to attack this village? Surely it couldn't be because wizards and muggles were living together, Hogsmeade was the only all-wizarding village and he'd already attacked there twice.

Quickly, she put up a ward on the houses' windows, feeling a guilt rise up in her at not being able to warn the family about what was to happen. She saw the flare of a spell before she heard it erupt, and Alice gripped her wand tighter, sending one last look toward the window before heading out into the starts of the fray.

Nobody would be surprised to see that Grayson Wilkes was near the head of the mob if they had been able to see his face behind the well-polished mask and the familiar hood of the Death Eaters. Causing death and destruction today would be a wonderful distraction from the irritating family matters that would have to be taken care of in the next week or so because of his sister's death, after all. He narrowed his gaze and lifted his wand with a gloved hand, sending a defodio spell at the nearest uncloaked figure. Sure, a gouging spell might've been a bit extreme ... but it was just his style and he'd tweaked it just enough lately that he wanted to see the results of it as soon as possible.

How disgusting it was to see this village where muggles and wizards lived in what they liked to think was peace. It gave him great delight to disturb the place. He continued to stalk through the village, lingering until he spotted another good target and keeping his head about himself as best he could.

No need to find any more of the Wilkeses dead this week. That would reflect badly on everyone.

Mycroft hated these so-called Death Eaters. They totally ruined a good marathon of Tales of the Unexpected and they also killed lots of innocent people. And Mycroft was a good deal angry about that plus all the shite that was going on with Elphias and Hogwarts and really, tonight was just not the night to get in his way. Okay, they'd been given the okay to use The Killing Curse in dire situations, but Mycroft had never killed anyone before and didn't actually plan on doing it any time soon. This wasn't quite dire enough, and maybe if they saw that they were surrounded or overwhelmed by superior forces, they'd just stand down.

He aimed his wand at the ready and shouted at the first Death Eater he came across, "YOU ARE BOUND BY LAW. STAND DOWN AND DROP YOUR WAND IMMEDIATELY."

Okay that sounded pretty awesome right? Yes. Mycroft was a master at keeping all the millions of thoughts he had in order while still paying attention to what he was supposed to be doing. It came from practice of having to concentrate with Berk as his partner, who...was around here somewhere. After dispatching this fellow, he was going to go help Berk find some more to take down.

It was all right with Grayson that Mycroft hated Death Eaters - they hated him too. Honestly, Grayson thought it was a bit ridiculous to put yourself out there as obviously as these Aurors did with their faces exposed and their identities ripe for the plucking. He suppressed the urge to roll his eyes behind the mask and actually let out a snorting laugh. Did that 'put down your wand immediately' speech ever work? He was going to assume no.

He didn't waste any time, spinning about to face the Auror and shouting an alternation of diffindo and crucitatus curses. The more blood-spray the better, as far as Grayson was concerned. Grayson licked his lips, quite eager to prove to Mycroft that being bound by law did not in fact mean a thing as far as he was concerned.

No, Mycroft didn't think that the speech would work, rarely did it ever and only when they caught someone quite off-guard. Actually, it had only happened the once, but Mycroft still counted it. But other than that time, it didn't happen, so Mycroft was already jumping out of the way and sending his own binding curse in the Death Eater's direction. He hated their masks and what he was sure was a smug little smirk on the guy's face. This guy thought he was going to win, wasn't he? Well this bloke had never faced Mycroft Doge, Auror. He was in for a surprise.

"I SAID IMMEDIATELY. NOT AFTER A COUPLE OF SPELLS. STAND DOWN AND DESIST YOUR ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR," Mycroft shouted as he planned what he would do next. It was a good thing he and Berk fought like all the time. Plus, he got to duel all the junior aurors which was fun. Mycroft liked dueling. Not so much when lives were at stake, but he was an auror, he could beat this measley Death Eater.

A binding curse, really? That was ... a bit hilarious. It was easy enough to throw up a shield and side-step for good measure before he arched his brow beneath the mask. Grayson swallowed and prepared another triad of cruciatus -- perhaps the fact that the other man was using the nancy spells that he was were going to give him an advantage. Despite the fact that he hadn't been particularly close to Louisa and certainly disliked her, he was still irritated that anyone would try and go after the family.

Just because they were new money ... well. He shuddered pleasantly and let his other hand slide into his robes, palming the dagger there. Hopefully he'd be able to get close enough to use it.

There were very few times when Corner Conway was able to get clearance as quickly as he had today, but when one said words like 'mass casualty risk' and 'mixed villages' the higher-ups tended to listen. Merlin knew that Avis Tremaine shouting and flailing like a mad-woman didn't hurt when one was trying to get something done. At least she did well with annoying the proper ministers into action just so that she would shut the hell up about it already.

They apparated in with a loud crack along with the other Aurors and Corner scanned the area quickly, discerning just where would be best to start. Avis, he noticed, was already paired off with her husband and headed off to some place or another. He barked orders at a few of the newer Aurors - secure the perimeter, make sure that the muggle houses were well-protected and most importantly, watch for hexes and curses. You'd be surprised how many Aurors died like that, caught up in the moment and completely off-guard no matter how many times they'd gone through the training courses.

He swallowed, then, and turned on his heel to narrowly avoid a bright orange spell whirring past his head.

Merlin, he was getting too old for this.

Amery slithered through the chaos, looking for anything, anybody, worth trying to kill or play with. Big game. This was the sort of thing he relished in one respect and hated with another. The energy, the adrenaline was infectious-- a perfect sort of atmosphere for twisting limbs and snapping bones. But on the other hand, he didn't feel that half the people their really enjoyed taking their time with what they were doing, that they didn't appreciate what it was every time they took a life with their own hands.

Because Amery did. He fully understood it, fully relished it, not very deep down. He smirked when he saw a familiar figure come into view.

"Excellent," he murmured, stretching his wand arm fluidly. Reckless attitude was hardly what he had in mind when he found Corner Conway too distracted to properly defend himself.

The moment that he had separated from the group, Corner had his head in the game. His primary objective was, as always, to capture as many of the other side as possible -- the secondary one was to stay alive, no matter what he told the other Aurors. It was a personal choice between safety and progress, he supposed. He didn't enjoy this part of the job, but the part of him that knew it was necessary insisted he do it well.

And after all, he'd been dueling for longer than some of the trainees had been alive. He caught movement out of the corner of his eye and sent a powerful disarming spell in Amery's direction.

It whizzed over his shoulder as Amery jerked himself out of its path as he walked to meet Corner head on, intent concentration burning beneath the mask.

He cast a Cruciatus curse as a preliminary weapon on his way over, ignoring the throes of battle others around them had thrown themselves into. Focus. Focus, and precision, and a gleeful urge to see what Corner Conway could try to do to him.

They'd been given the go-ahead to use the killing curse as usual -- and nobody would question Corner Conway's judgment considering his seniority ... but he didn't like to use it. There was never any testimony from corpses, no useful information. He pursed his lips into a tight line and flicked another protective spell up in order to reflect the Cruciatus. If Amery thought things were going to be that easy, he'd be finished before they even got started.

"Stupefy!" He didn't stop walking toward the other man in return -- he wasn't about to be bullied by a Death Eater in this stage of the game.

He didn't flinch as he cast a shield over himself and continued the walk with the distance closing in. He wondered if they would come to blows should their wands get knocked out of their hands. He decided he'd like that, ultimately, because he measured the true brute force of a man, and the sound of necks snapping or limbs cracking was so much more satisfying when it came from your own two hands.

Though that didn't mean Amery was so ready to drop his wand a lay the first blow. He wielded it preciously as he deflected the stunner and sent it back in Corner's direction.

If they came to blows Amery might've been pleasantly (or unpleasantly) surprised to find out that Corner was relatively good with his fists. The key to being prepared was to be well-rounded, after all. Since volleying the stunning spell back to Amery again would only result in him having to deflect it again, he favored tossing it up and letting it fizzle out into a few colourful sparks.

"Incarcerous!" The rope spell always seemed to do little except distract the person advancing, however, so Corner had the good sense to follow it up with another expelliarmus and a good stupefy.

The call had come late, and Berkeley didn't waste time in telling Amelia things would be okay, or that he'd be home soon; she was a smart woman, she knew how things like this worked. He was glad for that, glad that his wife was brave and bold...and emotional, okay, so maybe there might have been tears, but she was pregnant, and that's what happened and---

---focus. As terrible as it sounded, Berk had to put Amelia out of his mind. He had to put everything out of mind; his brothers, the trouble with their families, what that weird green thing he'd eaten at lunch was---none of that could fog his mind at the moment.

It was hard to find proper footing on the cobblestones of the village, but he hadn't lasted this long without being able to adapt. Finding his stance, Berk shot a curse that blocked a death eater's path toward the town square. No matter how many times he faced these bastards, the sight of their masks and cloaks would always send terrible chills down his spine.

Braith Selwyn really wasn't in this for the fighting. In fact, he rather hated the fact that he had to kill innocent people and he tried to keep out of it for the most part, but Merlin knew how suspicious that would look, especially with blokes like Wilkes and bints like Lestrange who had eyes in the bloody backs of their heads. He'd been tampering with some of his own hexes so that they'd at least look deadly when they were in fact far less life-threatening, but he knew that he'd only be able to use each one once or twice.

His life was complicated, he'd be the first to admit that, but his need to keep to family tradition was stronger than his desire to be a 'good person' when it came down to it. And then -- fucking hell, someone was blocking his path. He shot a glance over his shoulder to see just what stupid Auror it had been and -- oh, he knew that face -- it was Doge. Suddenly the mask was a damned blessing, although he felt that way whenever he saw any Auror. He kept his head down in the halls for days after fights like this. He drew in a breath and cast a stunning spell as he turned 'round.

"Put down the wand!" Berk shouted, his own wand at the ready. He always, always gave his opponent the chance to right his ways, even if that lasted for merely a second. Like, now. The stunning spell was deflected easily, and Berkeley swiftly shot off his own rally of stunning spells. Another thing he prouded himself on was his style of dueling; he tried to force his opponent into submission, using a fatal hex was completely a last resort.

His main concern, however, was for the muggles around. The obliviators would be on the scene once the fighting settled down to erase and modify memories, but death eaters weren't too keen on leaving the helpless individuals alone. No, Berk was here to make sure that there were no casualties, and he shot up a shield before he began to close the distance between he and the death eater.

"Drop it!"

Had the guy actually just told him to ... yes, yes he had. He'd asked him to drop his wand. Braith had to stifle the laugh into the back of his hand as he threw a disarming hex at Berk. The man might've been approaching him, but Braith was doing the same - drawing their fight away from the houses and the crowd. Not that he'd admit to such a thing and he was fairly certain that Berk wouldn't notice, but there it was.

He would admit that he was very much glad that it was Berk and not some other Auror. If he hurt the guy he would feel considerably less guilt. Sure, it was unfair to hold a grudge when he was the one who'd broken up with Amelia ... but still.

Self-preservation before all else.

This couldn't have been moving more smoothly, except when things went according to plan, that was usually the time to be concerned. Berk himself had been intentionally trying to force thee death eater away from the village, and it seemed to be working without little effort. No, he'd heard of too many stories of aurors falling into the traps laid out by You-Know-Who's cronies, and Berk was paying extra attention to his surroundings.

The disarming spell rebounded off a shield and Berkeley immediately sent the same spell back at the death eater, followed by a volley of stunning spells.

A startling scream was heard off to the side, and it was simply in his instinct to turn toward it. Flinching greatly, Berk caught sight of another death eater, who had just blown in the door of a nearby cottage. He could see the woman in the kitchen, and without another thought he roared, "STUPEFY!" and knocked the death eater unconscious.

And that was the reason that Berk was an Auror and not a Death Eater. Perhaps not the only reason, but -- well, he could count on one hand the number of times that another Death Eater had gone to the rescue of a 'friend', nevermind a stranger.

"CONFRINGO!" Braith was very much fond of things exploding, and while he wasn't aiming for Berk (he was, rather, aiming for the stone wall not too far from him that looked like it would shatter rather nicely) he still made sure to keep his aim steady. He narrowly escaped the disarming spell and blasted up his own shield, although he wasn't sure how long it was going to last with the stunning spells barraging him.

Well, shit.

In shock of seeing the wall tumbling down, Berk thought of doing two things; disapparating and throwing up a shield. So--he did both, ending up a few meters from the initial collapse, and when he reappeared, watched as a few of the stones slid around the curve of his shield.

But, the structure wasn't able to hold up any longer, and the pressure on the shield finally began to falter. Not having the strength to disapparate again (and if he did, Berk was sure he'd end up splinching himself, his mind still wasn't back on track), he hurled himself away.

A sharp pain shot up his leg as a large brick landed on his foot, and he knew it was broken. Still, Berk pulled himself up, grimacing greatly as he sent another rally of spells (expelliarmus, stupefy, jelly-leg jinx), shooting up a red flare to inform the other aurors that he was injured.

There, that was exactly what he'd been waiting for. He watched the movements, tracked where Braith was disapparating from so that he could have his wand pointed at him the moment that he landed again. He felt the stupefying jinx hit his left arm and grimaced - it hung uselessly at his side and he glared hard at Berk before sending his own barrage back -- full-body bind curse, an expelliarmus of his own and a shocking hex of his own modification.

Braith really did want to get at the guy with his fists since that would result in less long-term damage and more satisfaction on his end and now that he was relatively immobilized by the broken foot (or so he liked to hope) Maybe he'd be able to get that wand away from him.

Then again, maybe not. He saw the flare from the corner of his eye and groaned. Now he'd be having a bit of trouble, wouldn't he? If the other Aurors came to his rescue, that was.

He deflected the first two spells, he could recognize those in his sleep, but the third caught Berkeley off guard and he could feel his eyes bulge at the electric sensation coursing throughout his body. It didn't last long, but it was enough to send him stumbling, and he almost lost all of his balance, but shooting a spell at the ground (something he and Mycroft liked to mess around with) pushed him up right again. Of course, this put pressure on his foot, but Berk had endured worse injuries on the job (he'd once gone a whole night with a piece of his skull exposed, that had been fun to explain to Conway--).

He heard voices, there would be others here soon, so all Berk needed to do was keep this man (could you really call a death eater a man, though?) away from where he could cause real damage. He felt like shit for not being able to do more, but he knew there was only time before his foot really started to become painful, and then he'd be of no use to the force.

"Diffindo!" he shouted finally, hoping the severing charm landed.

Oh, that was just what he needed. He'd felt a surge of triumph at the last spell but then he was having to deflect the severing charm and although he managed well enough for most of it, the tail-end of it caught him in the right arm and suddenly he was very much not a useful Death Eater. At least this legitimately put him out of commission for the rest of the fight and he couldn't be accused of copping out. There had been a few close calls between the Wilkeses watching him and Lestrange being on his case.

Braith grunted, pushing out the spell from his lung even though his arm was bleeding, "Petrificus Totalus!" Without looking to see whether that spell had landed, he closed his eyes and concentrated on apparating with a loud pop.

Yes, she had broken immediately away from Corner and the other Aurors in order to move into the high-intensity areas. Booth had been at her side for some time but then he'd gotten distracted with another Death Eater and she'd popped off to find her own fun (or trouble, depending on who you talked to). Avis frowned, wand at the ready, and cast her sights on one of the nearby Death Eaters.

"You," she shouted, "Wand down!" Not that she expected anything but a spell shot her way, so she pre-emptively put up a Protego charm to protect herself from any barrage that might've been coming her way.

The shout had come from behind him--at least that's what Dominic thought, but he had only half heard the woman's voice over the loud snapping sound that was the neck of the Muggle he had pinned up against the nearest brick wall. He released his wand and spun around, allowing his victim to fall into a heap on the ground, and shot off a Cruciatus curse in the direction from which he thought he heard the voice. No sense in wasting time with nancy spells like some of his 'friends' (Selwyn was honestly the lamest person ever in Dominic's book when it came to stuff like this); if they were trying to disrupt him, then he could be sure that it wasn't another Death Eater.

The flash of red light bounced off the shield that the woman had cast up around herself. Dominic raised his brow underneath the mask. A woman? Well, wasn't that cute. "You don't know what you're getting yourself into, love," he called to her.

Avis arched her brow in return, although she couldn't see his response from under the mask. All right, the fact that he was cocky enough to talk to her like that while they were getting ready to duel...

"Conjunctivo!" Probably a little bit of a dirty trick, but she didn't feel like having to deflect a half-dozen Cruciatus curses from the man just because he didn't think that it as a good idea to mess around with spells that couldn't kill her in a half-second or less. She'd always prided herself in being good at this, though, and a good duel was probably just what she needed to clear her mind ... right? Sure.

Here was hoping it hit. Blurred vision was something she could definitely use to her advantage.

Dominic threw up his wand in front of him just in time to chant a protego and successfully deflect the curse. So the girl wasn't against playing a little dirty, apparently, which was interesting. He had the feeling that she probably wasn't an Auror, although it would be a lie to say that he hadn't encountered ones who did tend to use a few dirty tricks in desperate situations.

"So what's a little girl like you doing out in a big fight like this?" he asked. Dominic couldn't help himself, just the way he couldn't help the condescending tone to his voice. He began to advance towards her, keeping his own shield up--there was no use in sending a spell at her until hers was down again. It would just waste his own strength. "Get lost somewhere?"

Cute. Obviously the constant annoyances that Booth had provided to her as a younger woman and even now that they were married was just practice for ignoring annoying fucking Death Eaters. She suppressed a laugh in the back of her throat and kept her own shield up until the last possible moment, allowing him to advance on her and slowly moving back away from the crowd. It would be better to draw him away from where he could get reinforcements, right?

Avis was certainly a fan of unconventional techniques and she wasn't beneath playing dirty to get the job done, unlike Mr. Corner Conway. She bent down with her shield still up and felt around for the loose cobble she'd almost tripped over on her way over ... then shucked it straight at Dominic.

She followed it with a barrage of spells -- diffindo, expelliarmus, and stupefy.

Ah, this girl really was all for playing dirty. Well, fuck. Of course when she'd sent the conjunctivo curse at him he'd assumed, but... this always made them more difficult to beat. Then again, when he could finally stand over them and bleed them to death while he watched them writhe in pain, it was all the more worth it. At least he'd be having some fun tonight, Dominic supposed.

He hadn't been prepared for the cobble that she threw at him--innovative, he'd give her that--and his momentary shock caused his shield to drop around him. Thinking quickly, Dominic dived to the right into a ducking roll, narrowly avoiding her spells--all except for the diffindo, courtesy of which he felt a sharp pain up his left side.

Forcing himself to ignore the way his wound was screaming at him, he threw his free hand over it and gritted his teeth, launching several further rounds of the Cruciatus at her, topped off by a very angry, very concentrated Avada Kedavra. Now the bitch had just pissed him off.

Oh, but he did have a fucking temper, didn't he. The cobble did just what it was supposed to and at least one of her curses hit him the way she'd been hoping that it would, cutting up his side. She was prepared for the curses that he sent at her, but she ended up catching the edge of one of the Cruciatus curses.

It sent a shock of pain up her spine and she groaned, forcing herself to keep her concentration. The bolt of green sent warning signals off in her mind and she shot up another shield before she literally threw herself off to the side in a roll. She'd have to thank Tomas for teaching her that one (some sort of American Football thing or something). She kept up with the relatively low-damage spells, but by the time that he was throwing the Unforgivables at her ... well. A modified flagrante curse saw a flaming coil of rope sent in his direction. She'd been messing with it with Erin, trying to find something that would create a binding field. It ought to shoot up a brief wall of flame if she'd done it right. It wasn't meant to do damage, just to distract.

Unfortunately, it shot up for only a few seconds at half-height and fizzled out. They still hadn't gotten it quite right. Damnit.

"Stupefy!" Again.

Dominic was impressed, not that he would ever admit that. The fact that she had the strength to even attempt to roll out of the way, furthermore to throw up a shield or cast any spells at all was surprising and spoke a lot to her strength. He was going to have to be even more careful with this one than he thought. Not that he didn't think he could eventually beat her, but he was going to have a very difficult time of things indeed if he didn't watch himself. One second off guard and she could easily have him--not that he really cared that much, but it would be preferable to not be thrown in prison before he got a chance to see his future heir.

He scoffed under his breath at her half-baked attempt at a flame wall, which ended in a grunt as the action irritated his wound. With much effort, Dominic rose to his feet and sidestepped the stupefy, which was actually quite horribly off-target anyway. He made his way slowly over to her, wand still aimed at her as she stayed under the curse.

Dominic stopped when he was standing over her and took a moment to just watch her face as it contorted in pain. It was satisfying in so many ways, and a little more with each twinge he felt from his very bloody side. Deciding it was worth it, he exerted the energy to make an extra jab with his wand, which would increase the level of the curse. Yes, he definitely had a temper on him.

"I hope you're ready to die, you bitch," he hissed at her.

It had definitely been quite a while since she'd felt a Cruciatus curse this intense and it was all that she could do not to scream - some part of her wondered if she actually wanted to and physically couldn't, but she pushed that thought out of her mind and instead set her jaw, fighting to at least get a look at him because damned if she wasn't going to remember the Exact Sound of his Voice and anything she might've been able to tell about that mask of his.

Then he was jabbing at her and she could feel her consciousness slipping away from her. It was a damned shame she hadn't been able to spit in his face, she thought absently as she gave another rolling shudder and lost her fight with the waking world. Hm.

Was she ready to die? It was an interesting question to say the least. At least she'd gotten in a good wound.

Dominic threw off the curse about ten seconds after she stopped moving, and cursed under his breath. He always had had a shoddy sense of restraint when he was angry, and now he wasn't even going to be able to see the fear on her face when he delivered the final curse.

Well, what was done was done, and there was nothing he could do about that. He did get a bit of consolation in knowing, however, that the woman must not have been as powerful as he thought if she had lost consciousness so easily. Or maybe he just didn't know his own strength. Either way, it didn't matter, because as the Avada poised itself on his lips, he knew that she would be dead in a few seconds anyway. He couldn't, of course, just let her live after having confronted her like this.

"Ava---" His spell was cut off as an explosion sounded beside him, causing him to have to cover his head and neck from the falling rubble around him. As the dust cleared he looked around, and found a rather tall man in auror robes pointing a wand at him.

Fucking hell, this night just was not going his way. Without a look back to the woman, but not without a lament for her continued life, he chased off after the Auror. Well, there was always hope mental incapacitation.

He was not in the fucking mood.

James was antsy, which wasn't good for going into a battle, but his adrenaline was pumping far too hard to stand still. Back and forth he paced, in front of the familiar pizzeria in the center of town square, just---waiting. Waiting. While Remus and Sturgis headed into the fucking Lestranges and hopefully released Sirius. They hadn't been able to step a fucking toe onto the property, and today they get exact details how to bloody break in and out? No, it didn't make any sense to James, but Dumbledore seemed to think it did, and he trusted this anonymous tipper.

If he was here, dealing with fucking death eaters, and they didn't get Sirius out---James was going to have to bring up some bloody issues with his former headmaster.

The shouts and screams knocked him out of his mental rant, and James charged forward, his own invisibility cloak secured around him (no way was he going to trade his trusty cloak for a new one, he'd never gotten caught once while under it). The death eaters started trickling out into the square, and James waste no time in dodging behind the fountain, and shooting around its curves a strong, "Relashio!"

Amycus had kept near the back of the group, keeping his eyes open for any sign of trouble, and for any one who could pose as a potential threat or could just pose as a pain in the ass. He also tried to keep an eye on Alecto as much as possible, but he knew that she could handle herself...but he still hated parting ways with her, especially on missions like these. They were basically going out to slaughter anything that wasn't wearing a mask who was breathing. Hell, some of the other Death Eaters probably used corpses to thier advantage.

Slow steps brought him into the square, wand held firmly in between his fingers. His eyes squinted slightly to see better in the dark. He probably could have lit up the tip of his wand, but that would just draw more attention to himself. And he really didn't need that...

Besides, someone already seemed to have their attention on him, since it wasn't long before he saw sparks shooting towards him out of the corner of his eye. He jumped to the side and pointed at the approaching spell. "Aguamenti!" the sparks were extinguished, but Amycus didn't drop his wand. He just held onto it tighter as he looked around frantically for where the hell they had come from. His breathing was a little bit heavier, but he remained calm, pointing his wand in the general direction from where the spell had come, once again taking slow steps closer to the fountain, trying to catch sight of any movement at all. "Protego." He muttered the spell beneath his breath, still trying to locate where that spell had come from.

Who the fuck...?

James had the fleeting thought that he should not feel such a surge of power at the fact that his opponent could not see him, but he grinned somewhat maliciously anyway, and came around the fountain, so now he was behind the death eater. Playing dirty was never--oh, who was he trying to fool? James Potter, king of pranks and mischief, this was where he bloody belonged. Especially since they'd decided to attack his home. James was sure his father would be out here, hurling spells and acting as if he's still on the auror force, and James could hardly blame him.

He shot a hurling hex at the death eater's back, followed by a quick volley of just--painful stinging spells. No, James knew that the death eaters showed no mercy, and he was past trying to fight honorably. He and his family and his friends had been hurt too much by these bastards to give them any sort of chance of escap.

It was hard not to shout out and taunt, but James knew that speaking when he didn't have to would give up his position. So, he had to keep moving, he couldn't stay in one spot, and to play a trick, he aimed at the water on the opposite side of the fountain, splashing it around.

This wan’t amusing at all. Not being able to see who was kicking his ass was not something that Amycus necessarily enjoyed. The fact that whoever was hitting him was experienced didn’t help, since the spells and hexes that crashed into his body weren’t sent out by a novice wizard. No, whoever was holding that wand knew what they were doing.

He crashed into the ground, feeling the first spell hit him right in the center of his back, now on his hands and knees as he tried to hold himself back from yelling out because of the pain.

Once the spells wore off, he gripped tightly onto his wand and turned around, breathing heavily as he searched for his attacker. The splashing in the fountain drew his attention, and while he normally might have been in the frame of mind to think that it was just a diversion, he was pissed off and let his anger get to him, sending off a slew of spells in that direction before aiming them at the other side, hoping to at least his something. This one sided battle wasn’t working to his favor, and that just didn’t sit right with Amycus. Things had to change.

He wasn't following Alice, per say, just keeping her in relative proxmity. And really, for all he knew, she could've been half way across the town by then, so really, Frank was just going on a general hunch. The thought calmed him more than the idea actually working, because even though he knew this wouldn't be hard (the Ministry was bound to show up after a few minutes), he would always worry about Alice. As an almost-fully-trained Auror or not, Frank was allowed to worry about his wife, right?

Letting out a sigh, he leaned further back against a tree in a random yard, waiting unseen for the fight to start. This was definitely one of the lesser-desirable feelings he had coursing through him. Knowing that something was going to happen soon, but unable to make it start now. Frank didn't like it, but he supposed he should get used to it, and embrace it.

So, when spells were finally shot, he more than willingly jumped into action from sheer built up tension. Frank was more than ready for this, especially with the extra ability to be invisible. "Everte Statum," he hissed, throwing the first curse as a death eater passed by unknowingly on the sidewalk.
