Entry tags:aland avery, roderick dearborn

Who: Roderick Dearborn and Aland Avery
What: MANLY STUFF
When: Saturday night
Where: Roderick's freakishly clean flat
Why: ...

He was aware that Aland had been ignoring him for the past few weeks, but perhaps that was his fault. He'd been rather stern about still talking to Erin (he still had an infatuation with her whether it had resulted from transference from Aland or not) and he supposed he was less than willing to completely deny that he was attracted to the other man.

Roderick tapped his fingers against the table while he waited for both the take-away and Aland to show up. At least one of the two was bound to come, if only because it was bound by the fact that food places liked to be paid for their goods. Hopefully the food would show up first, because Roderick was currently six blocks from his house and waiting on the doorstep of a place that wasn't his own. No need to let anyone know where he really lived unless they were family and he felt he could trust them.

The pizza boy showed up and Roderick handed him the coins, waiting until the young man turned his back and then apparating to his own step. He unlocked the door physically and then with an unlocking charm and stepped inside, setting the box on top of his counter and continuing to wait.

Beer and pizza -- that wasn't a date, right, so Aland wouldn't freak out. Sure.

Okay. Aland had no idea why he was here. He originally had come to say that he couldn't stay, because he wasn't queer and he didn't want to...lead Roderick on or anything, but now that he was here, Aland couldn't think of a single reason not to stay. It was just sex right? Darren was the one telling him he needed to get laid. By a girl, but it was just sex, right? Just sex.

With a man.

Aland sighed and knocked on the door, making sure his hood was up, so he couldn't get caught. Because that was probably the worst part. Just because Darren hadn't freaked out, didn't mean that other people wouldn't. He already had the list of people he really didn't want finding out and it was mostly people who would tell Voldemort, because that would get them killed quicker than anything else. It would probably be better to use a hotel or something, but Roderick had made the plans for this and so...well Aland wasn't going to argue with it. He figured the more he talked to the guy in public, the more likely it would get out.

This wasn't his actual residence, really. He moved frequently and most of his owls were sent to a small flat he kept up in midtown London. Roderick answered the door with a quirk of his brow and then held it so that Aland could step inside. He wasn't about to say something ridiculous like 'please come in' -- Aland should know by now that he was welcome to come in.

"I wasn't sure what you wanted -- so I got pizza and beer. Usually a pretty safe bet, huh?" He wasn't sure what he had been thinking inviting Aland here, but he refused to think about it further than that he enjoyed Aland's company. After all, it wasn't as if he could do anything about that. He shrugged and moved toward the fridge, pulling out a beer for each of them and handing over an uncapped one to Aland.

"Here you are. I trust you're well, yeah?"

Aland pushed the hood off his head after stepping inside and closing the door. He looked around to see if this wasn't going to be an ambush, before taking his cloak off and hanging it on the nearest chair. He took the beer and nodded, fiddling with it for a little bit. "Um, yeah its good. Pizza is a good food thing..." Aland trailed off before uncapping the beer and taking a long drink.

This was really weird and awkward and Aland didn't want it to be awkward because Roderick was actually a nice guy, if not a bit weird. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just been at work and avoiding the sick people because well, sick people suck and I don't want to go to the hospital. Hospitals give me the heebiejeebies. Healers are sadistic fucks."

Roderick smirked. Sadistic fucks coming from a Death Eater was either ... very ironic or very true, depending on which healer you were speaking of. "I don't know about that. I cleaned the lab out after one of the workers got sick in Magical Crimes." And Aland would know that it wasn't Erin, because Merlin knew that he'd have been up in arms if the girl had gotten sick.

He set his own beer on the table and opted to take a hesitant drink of it. He didn't want to make Aland nervous or make him think that he was trying to get him drunk to ... take advantage of him or whatever.

"You shouldn't have to clean up after someone else gets sick like that," Aland frowned slightly, "they should figure out how to fix it because clearly it's not just sticking to the people who should be getting it, is it? Not really working out the way it planned. One of Vivica's roommates has it now." Aland really didn't like this 'lets get all the bad people sick' plan because clearly it was backfiring. But it wasn't like he was going to actually say that to anyone but Roderick. And now it seemed like Erin was close to it. Yep, it was definitely time to cure it. "Just a really bad plan."

"Whether or not they're 'sadistic fucks'," the swear sounded foreign on his tongue, "the healers ought to be able to figure it out. I cannot imagine that the people responsible for it were terribly sophisticated with it." He arched his brow at Aland and added after a moment, "and until they figure out how to fix things, the best I can do is keep the sectors of the Ministry clean that I can, whether targets work there or not." Because if one sector had the virus than any other sector could get it just as easily. And that ... was definitely not on.

Really, Roderick wasn't sure what had possessed them to think that a virus was a good idea.

"Ought to, but haven't. Which makes them idiotic sadistic fucks. And they haven't figured it out and its been like months and two people have died so it's got to be smarter than they are. It's not controllable so pretty much everyone is just an idiot and you really shouldn't be cleaning up after it because well, what if you catch it? That would just be..." Aland trailed off and then shrugged before taking a deep drink and avoiding eye contact with Roderick because that thought didn't ever need to be finished or examined.

"What kind of pizza did you get?" Aland said, wanting to change the subject as soon as possible. Really, what was he doing? Eating and drinking when he was supposed to be saying no and goodbye and all that stuff.

Roderick snorted, honestly surprised by Aland. "You really think that I'm a dumb enough shit to get it in the first place?" The condition of the house should have told him exactly how sanitary Roderick was. It was necessary for his sanity, really. He smoothed a hand through his hair and then glanced to the box of pizza.

"Pepperoni. I figured that would be pretty safe." Because plain cheese was boring, and he really did like pepperoni. He had to hide the smirk on his lips as Aland trailed off, though -- aw, he'd almost admitted he had feelings toward this whole arrangement. At least that was progress.

"There's lots of things that can happen that you can't control, namely other people who are stupid and do stupid things like leaving sharp things around for people to step on or letting idiots play with dragons and that sort of thing you really can't control all of the time," Aland said, reaching for a slice with his bare hands and not even going for a plate or caring that he was getting crumbs on the counter.

"Pepperoni is good. Bacon is better though. Vivica knows how to get this really tasty kind, I don't know but its got lots of little bits of meat and stuff. No mushrooms though, veggies shouldn't be anywhere near cheese and sauce and especially not fruit. Cooked fruit is gross. People are weird with their food combinations," Aland chattered on, mostly trying to avoid the awkwardness he was feeling himself and took a large bite to avoid having to deal with talking anymore.

The fact that Aland was getting little crumbs on the counter didn't bother him now, but it would bother him later when he was cleaning up. That wasn't what was on his mind at the moment, though -- right now he was more concerned with the fact Aland was avoiding ... saying anything at all. He shrugged and took a sip of his beer before he grabbed a piece of pizza - with a plate and napkin - for himself.

"I'll keep that in mind for next time, then." Because Roderick operated on the assumption that eventually Aland would be all right with at least this - friendly things, not necessarily sex - and they'd move past his denial about things.

Aland shrugged, "You don't have to. I mean pizza's not like other stuff. You can pick stuff off of pizza. I can't have strawberries though, so yeah. That'll like kill me or something, I don't know, I've never tried eating them that I can remember. But Bad Stuff will Happen, so I don't eat them," Aland nodded again, not realizing he'd been looped into another date thingy, at least more food. Food was okay with Aland, he wasn't quite sure about more, only that he was strangely attracted to this bloke and it was strange because it was a bloke and they wouldn't have had sex if he wasn't attractive, only Darren was going to be pissed off about it. Very very pissed off.

"Peach fuzz gives me a rash," he admitted. It might not have been a big deal to admit that coming from anyone else, but really ... now Aland had the ammo to ... give him a really bad rash. Yeah, all right, he was being ridiculous. But he'd always been very private and he always would be. That would probably work in his favor considering what they were doing. He took a bite of his pizza and managed a slight smile for Aland.

Aland was at least starting to talk to him about things that weren't sex, so that was good. They could just ... shag later and not talk about it.

Aland paused mid-bite of his slice and blinked at that information and stared at Roderick for a moment before remembering to continue his actions. He raised an eyebrow and grabbed a napkin to set the slice down on. Finishing his bite, Aland rested his elbows on the counter and folded his arms, taking a moment to watch Roderick. That was just a really weird thing to say to someone and Aland couldn't imagine why he'd just told him that.

"Are you a little bent in the head?" Aland asked with a completely serious face. He wasn't trying to offend Roderick, just this whole situation was crazy. "I mean, really, what are you thinking?"

"It's not normal to offer the same sort of information about myself that you offered about yourself?" Honestly, Roderick wasn't offended ... and if the other man needed the explanation for things to make sense then that was just fine. He shrugged, taking another bite of food and glancing to Aland.

"I don't do this 'friendly' thing terribly often, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm a bit confused as far as it goes. I don't ... really make friends. They're a bit of a liability." Which meant Aland was an important exception. Right, he really shouldn't have made that much obvious.

Aland shrugged, "I wasn't really offering on purpose, things just sometimes come out of my mouth weather I like them to or not. Darren says something about a filter, but who knows what he's talking about most of the time," Aland waved his hand a little as if he was brushing the comment off. Roderick's next comment was kind of interesting and most of his brain told him to stay away from the subject but Aland couldn't help but asking, "Are we friends then? Because well I don't really have sex with my friends. Well not 'really', i mean I don't have sex with my friends. Shagging friends is not a good plan."

"Since we're having sex, then, perhaps something more than friends," he suggested, finishing off his bit of pizza. Aland really did need to learn a filter if he was going to be a good Death Eater and keep himself from getting killed for giving away secrets after one too many beer. Roderick shrugged, leaning against the counter. This whole conversation didn't bother him much.

"I just had a feeling that 'dating' would freak you."

Trying not to appear too shocked or disgusted at the thought of dating a bloke, Aland took a drink of beer and sort of tried to organize his thoughts. Did Roderick think they were dating but not wanting to call it that? How did Aland feel about that? He certainly didn't want to date Roderick, who was a male. Very male. That was just. Very. Wrong. But they were having sex, or at least, it seemed like Roderick wanted more.

Aland bit his lip and shrugged a little, "So you think we're going to do this more then?"

"Regardless," he continued, feeling a bit out of his element, "that wouldn't be a good idea. Considering the obligations we both have to the Dark Lord." And the fact that being flaming queers was frowned on even in regular society whether they liked it or not.

He took a sip of his own beer and glanced to Aland, attempting not to glance at his mouth when he bit his lip. "I wouldn't be opposed to it."
