We'll Celebrate the Yuletide and Dream a Dream By the Fireside (Defenders)
Christmas. Yule. Saturnalia. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Many cultures have celebrated and still celebrate a winter festival. There have been many names for it over the millennia. No matter the name it is a time to come together and celebrate with feasts and gifts with friends and loved ones.

Each culture has a legendary figure who would deliver gifts to children during this time. In Russia and some Slavic cultures he is known as Ded Moroz, Grandfather Frost, and comes not on Christmas but on New Year’s along with his granddaughter Snegurochka, or ‘”Snow Maiden”. In the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe he is known as Father Christmas. In the Netherlands and Belgium he is known as Saint Nicholas or “Sinterklaas” and in France he is known as Père Noël. In the United States we know him as Santa Claus.

No matter the name or who is delivering gifts, it is the season of peace, joy and togetherness. It is the season for thinking about loved ones, friends and those less fortunate. It is a time to witness the goodness and generosity the human race is capable of. It is a time for peace on Earth and goodwill toward man.

Halbjorn lays out the gifts for his siblings first. His time in the movie industry has inspired him to do things a little differently this year. Aridis is getting an English longbow off the set of some Robin Hood period pic. Aslief - he's never quite sure what to get her, so she's getting a promisory note to undertake a quest for any materials she might need. Svalin is getting her own Bat'leth - because he was assured that a warrior's weapon is unique though, from the Trekkies who'd know, he forged it himself for her, including tempering it in his own blood, apparently also part of the process - and he has to say, he approves of these Klingons, and the wounds didn't take long to heal.

Everyone else just gets gifts of food and mead.

Once the gifts are in place, he gets ready to head to one of the Hollywood Christmas parties he was invited to ahead of the release of his newest movie, out on Christmas Day.

Eiltin doesn’t really get what the big deal was about celebrating midwinter and the longest night of the year though The Hunting of The Wren was coming up so he had been practicing catch wrens with bare hands. With his speed it was pretty easy for him to do and make all the other guys look like idiots something his dad rather enjoyed. He had been paying attention to what the others had been doing and had gotten a little something for Grace.

Around the compound and only around the compound, it started to snow. The snow itself swirled, coalescing into a familiar form out on the front lawn.

She might have been smiling ever so slightly. For all her differences with them... this was a time of year when one should be with family. For each, there would be the promise of one magical feat at their request (provided she could be reached at the time), as well as a magically animated teddy bear for Zoey.

	"Congratulations," Asleif told him, and actually meant it. Odd. She hadn't realized her speech patterns had changed somewhat, but listening to her brother, she realized that they had. He shakes his head. "Thou always hast. I hath seen thy expression in the bare moments 'pon gaining a new scroll or staff, completing some ritual - thou hast always had it within thee, thou simply hath not seen fit to share it for some time. Methinks thou'rt much the same person thou hast been - now thou'rt simply more ready to share the best parts of Aslief with the world, and I am most pleased to see't."

	Halbjorn lets his sister handle the niceties. He doesn't tend to keep anything that isn't food or drink anyway, but he doesn't need to tell anyone that. This entire getting gifts thing - weapons aside, still feels very weird, but it seems important to Zoey. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Shopping for godlings was /hard/. Syd had learned last year about what kinds of things were given for Yule and played it safe this year by going with those kinds of things.

The godlings all got a few outfits of normal Earth clothes to better blend in when out and about. Hal didn't wear many clothes which was another problem added to the mix. Syd did get him a few cases of good beer instead. Andy and Eiltin also got cases of beer.

Avery got an amplifier for his guitar along with a new carrying case for his guitar. He also got a few Disney movies.

Zoey got the movies she wanted, the dolls she had been interested in and some new clothes. Along with new brushes and a halter for Snowflake. The baby sister was one thing she was not going to find under the tree on Christmas morning.

Marlow got new clothes along with gift cards to pick out other things she like. Dawn got a few first edition classic books that Syd had managed to find. Griffen got a new laptop and an invitation to visit the Stark Inc labs.

Sarah got her gift in the form of two chefs and two housekeepers to help out around the place.

Marlow missed Titan while Andy spent the holidays in New York, but she tried hard to find the right gifts for everyone and enjoy the season. She still had doubts about a Santa Claus, but her bungalow was decorated with magical twinkle lights that needed no bulbs or cords, and a living tree in the front room with a light dusting of snow that didn't melt.

It was during late night television that, combining little sleep with lots of hot chocolate, she decided on magazine subscriptions for everyone. Taste of Home for Sarah, Science Digest for Griffen, American Libraries for Dawn, kidsLA for Zoey, Cosmo for Grace, Redbook for Sydney, Forbes for Andy, Runner's World for Eiltin, Playboy for Halbjorn and Playgirl for Aridis.

Titan got the biggest pair of Hawaiian surfer trunks that she could find.

Or was it Playgirl for Hal and Playboy for Aridis? Aridis liked boys that played, and Hal liked girls. It had been late and she'd used the laptop in the bungalow to order them on the Amazon site. She wasn't much good at computers. Probably she should've asked Grace, Dawn or Sydney for some help, but that would have ruined the surprise.

Hopefully they would all like their gifts. Christmas seemed a lot more fun this year.

Andy did a lot of thinking about Christmas gifts, and had to ignore Titan's repeated suggestions that they just get beer for everyone except Zoey.

Argo and Corey received matching friendship bracelets for themselves. Harmony received a Kindle with several books uploaded. Dad got copies of all the "Mighty Sons of Hercules" shows.

Sydney and Avery received tickets to the new opera coming to town, and then tickets for "Super Buddies on Ice" to take Zoey.

Hal and Aridis actually did receive ale directly from Olympus. It had taken one of Andy's cousins a major effort to get the liquor to him, and Andy was sure he'd owe someone else a favor someday...provided he survived his current predicament.

Grace received Planet Hollywood giftcards with a note to "show our Celtic friend a good time". Eiltin received several CD of Celtic folk music that Andy hoped would remind him of home.

And thought that Marlow would be difficult to shop for, but Titan came through in the end. Marlow received a a sun hat, a new bikini and sunglasses along with a camera and a note from Titan.

Lots of pictures for when I get back, Magic Babe. I'm locked down until Andy and his girlfriend are finished 'gettin' reacquainted'. Love, Titan.

Then Andy departs for New York to spend the holidays with Jenny and maybe see his mom and step-dad.

	The Defenders were about to get some visitors for Yule. Three kids, two girls and a boy, appeared outside the gates. Each was carrying bundles that contained Yule gifts. (Reply to this)(Thread)
