All Star Gala! For Saturday!
In all honesty, he would rather be on his broomstick, making up practice and his regiments than dressed up at a party. Thomas knew that the All Star match didn't really count, but when you were flying among the best of the best, a player wanted to be the best of the best. He wasn't as rusty as he thought he'd be, but just the lack of flying made his muscles more sore after practice than he was used to. He was barely holding himself up, and if it weren't for the beautiful woman on his arm he'd probably be slumped in a chair, ready to pass out from exhaustion.

Samantha was back and he could fly. Both of his best friends had made the all-star team, and they were going to be playing together for the first time in their careers. Thomas really couldn't think of anything that could make him happier, though showing up Brookstanton on the pitch might be the cherry on top. They were teammates, and however much Thomas found the other beater loathsome, he would work with him for the win. It would at least be an interesting match, if anything.

"Would you like to dance?" he asked Samantha, smiling. He'd missed her terribly and was glad that her stint out of the country was over. Just in time.

"I'd love to," she replied happily, giving his hand a light squeeze before wrapping her arms around his shoulders. The summer had been long but extremely fulfilling for Samantha. The ruins were finally at a point where everything was running smoothly and people knew what was going on and what their jobs were. She would still have to go back at least once a month to make sure things were going well, but she felt like the team put together was definitely capable of handling things while she was gone.

She grinned up at him, trying to take in the moment. It felt like ages since they'd had time together and even though it was a very public outing, she was glad for the time. "Are you looking forward to the game?" she asked curiously, thinking about everything that had happened for him over the past few weeks.

Thomas smiled and nodded. Samantha had no idea how much it meant to him to be playing in the All Star game, no one did. The 'official' story released by the Arrows was that Thomas and Saoirse had come down with some rare strand of the dragon pox virus that had been circulating recently. No green skin, but definitely no flying. Holly had made some good press releases and Thomas was actually grateful to the woman who had given him the cold shoulder for so long. When it came to quidditch, it seemed like they were all on the same page; even people who didn't normally get along would do whatever it took for the team.

He hadn't explained to his team, his friends, Samantha, or his family how he'd managed to get his magicc back. Or--unlock it, whatever the healers wanted to call it. They said it had been blocked, it hadn't been taken from him; he wouldn't have been able to get to the pitch, or Hogsmeade, or any other magical place if he had been turned into a muggle. They had never been worried about it not being there, but getting it back? Thomas had chosen to figure it out on his own, and had found himself in another panic when he'd learned Saoirse had managed to recover. What if he'd ruined his chances by leaving the hospital? What if he'd missed on on remedies that needed to be done early on?

That stress, that anxiety was what had caused him to jump. If anyone found out that he'd taken the free fall from the near tip of Appleby Park, he was sure his familiars would kill him like the fall should have. Scaring himself nearly to death caused his magic to reveal itself once again, but it also revealed to Thomas the lengths he would go when in a desperate situation. He wasn't sure if he liked knowing his limits or not, and had no desire in letting anyone else know how dark his thoughts had gone.

His arm wrapped around her waist, pulling Samantha close, pushing his inner musings aside, "You look beautiful."

If she knew what he was thinking, what had happened to him in the past few days, there would probably be lots of inner worry going on for Samantha. As it was, she was blissfully unaware of what exactly had happened with Thomas. She had come back when he was in the hospital, yes, but with everything at work it was impossible to be with him for an extended period. And out of the whole ordeal, she felt guilt. Guilt that she didn't find out that he was even missing until Kendall pointed it out to her (and while she was out celebrating the solstice, to add to her complex), guilt that she hadn't been the first one to be at his bedside through everything. Wasn't that something she was supposed to do?

But her obligations had to be finished and--well, that was taken care of, wasn't it? She'd severed some good ties she'd started making in Norway when she left abruptly but--there was too much stress being torn between the two places, and when so much was happening at home, that's where she needed to be. So her second in command was now in charge of the corps and her new obligations would include monthly supervision visits as well as weekly floo conferences with Porter (she shuddered inwardly at the thought of a floo conference; as if using the fireplace for transportation wasn't bad enough, they wanted her to stick her head inside the bloody flames and carry on a conversation like it was completely natural and normal).

His arms pulling her in pulled her away from the thoughts of work and she blushed lightly at the comment. "Thank you," she said softly, trying not to let her smile grow too large as a result. "I have to be the luckiest girl here, eh?" It felt like it. She was dancing with her all-star boyfriend, celebrating her return (and his, too) and his accomplishments.

This years All-Star week was already so much better than last years. One, his father was no where in sight, two Kestrels weren't hosting, and three, best of all he was actually playing. With Thomas! He and Thomas were on the same team and it was going to amazing.

Unless it exploded in all of their faces because Charlie and Axe were also on the team. And Rose which normally would be great except they weren't talking at the moment. Which he needed to fix, because while everything was great when focused on the fact he got to play with his two best friends, he needed both of them speaking to him for him to deal with the inevitable awkwardness of this team. Playing peacekeeper is not how he wanted to spend his time on the All-Star team.

"Hey, do you have a moment?" Kendall asked touching Rose's elbow catching her attention. It took him a while to find a free moment in which she wasn't dancing with Octavius, or otherwise occupied. He got the distinct feeling that she was avoiding him, which wasn't far from possible.

Kendall was right, Rose had been avoiding him, along with select others, as she had found that this night was uneasy and stressful enough without dealing with potential exchanges like their previous one. Not that shefully remembered it, nor was she even remotely near that level of intoxication, but--- she closed her eyes tight momentarily, unable to open that door in her mind, here. She really did not want to think about that, now.

There were more important present things, like this the all-star status she had recently obtained. It was incredible, unbelievable, and definitely not something she had thought would have ever happened. Rose had never thought she had fans, or people that would be interested in her, or anything of that sort because who was she compared to...to... everyone else! Her teammates, her friends-- it was very overwhelming to take it all in. It made her want to clamp up and shy away from the pictures, handshakes, and attention, which she admittedly did.

At least that part of the night was over. More than able to separate from Octavius (and Charlie) so that Octavius (and Charlie) could do whatever it was they enjoyed doing together at events like this, Rose had begun to wander around timidly until getting caught by Kendall. Her hands slid and grabbed at the excess of her dress in a nervous reaction. Despite being one of her closest friends, he was still able to make her nervous.

"Oh-- um. I guess, yes," she said, now clutching more of her dress so she could walk freely.

"You look lovely tonight." He complimented her as he lead her off to a corner where they could talk uninterrupted. This conversation was going to be tense enough without chipper chatter surrounding them.

He didn't even know where to begin or what he was going to say. He honestly felt like he had a legitimate point, but at the same time he felt bad that he mad her cry and then just walked away. But going into the all star game holding a grudge, so he was going to just let it go. Suck it up and deal with it and apologize for hurting her feelings.

"I'm sorry." he said once they were off to the side. "I took my frustrations out on you and it wasn't fair. I shouldn't have said some of the things I said."

She pressed a small smile for Kendall. He was just being nice--- which was why, Rose remembered as they walked, she had realized their last interaction had hurt her as much as it had. They'd had their moments, she'd admit, but for the most part they had never... she had never seen Kendall as someone who could, or even would, purposely hurt her. An unrealistic source of blunt reality, yes, but not in a way that made her want to bawl her eyes out. They stopped walking eventually, and she was glad they were away from most people.

Oh. Rose looked down at the ground, feeling uncomfortable. He was apologizing for the situation, not for all that had been said. She couldn't remember most of what he'd said, just how she felt when she'd woken up the next morning; like a selfish friend and a two-timing girlfriend. Perhaps that was the best apology she would get, because even she wasn't sure what Kendall could say to make those feelings go away.

"I forgive you," Rose spoke softly, her hand moving to clutch her opposite arm's elbow. There was no point in making him think she had been angry, because she hadn't been. Just as their was equally no point in pressing the issue further, or trying to get him to say what she wanted to hear.

"I really am sorry Rose." Kendall repeated even though she had just said that she forgave him. It felt too easy, too simple.

He shuffled his feet awkwardly and looked around the room briefly before turning his attention back to her. "We don't hang out enough, not just the two of us. The last time we did that was when we were planning to kidnap Thomas for his birthday. Maybe we should try fixing that. Thomas and I go golfing all the time, so maybe we should do something like that." he suggested quietly. He didn't like that he felt the way that he did, and maybe this would fix that.

"I just-- I don't want you to think that I don't think of you as one of my best friends, because I do. That's not--" he stumbled over his words trying to find the right ones. "You are not my friend just because of Thomas."

"I know," Rose sighed, resting the side of her chin on her shoulder, still looking at the ground. Kendall was not a liar, and certainly not someone that just handed out apologies to make other people feel better. She understood that he must only be doing this because he felt it truly necessary and important. That realization did make her feel better. At least enough to look up from the ground and at him.

Just when she thought her spirits had risen (doing something, once a week, would be nice--- they should spend more time together), Kendall kept talking. Rose bit the inside of her lip. She hadn't been thinking that until he'd said it. Was that what he had said to her? That he thought they were friends only because of Thomas? It had.... maybe in the beginning it had started like that, but she certainly did not feel that way now. There were things she only felt comfortable with Kendall with, just like with Danielle and Thomas. A frown formed on her face, and she quickly brought her head back to resting on her shoulder and her hands clutching her opposite elbows.

"I don't think of you that way," Rose muttered, wishing now she had brought a thick sweater to wrap herself in, in the middle of the summer. "I'm sorry if I made you think that..." she trailed off, unsure what else to say.

"Doing an activity together could be nice," she finished lamely.

Kendall rubbed his knuckles across his chin. He hated this conversation. It felt like they were standing here defining their relationship. And now she was apologizing which really wasn't necessary. Plus there was no way to accept it with out confirming that he did feel that way at times. "This isn't your fault Rose." he said hating the look she had on her face as she apologized to him. Merlin, he was such an jerk to her.

"Look. It will be great. Just, let's just pick anything like volunteering to take care of a Jarvis or anything realated to magical creatures. I'm still surprised Professor Kettleburn let us anywhere near living animals after fourth year." he joked with a small smile. They did have good times together. Kendall just need to get over himself and these ridiculous feelings he was having recently.

There was a bitter taste in her mouth, now, that Rose couldn't quite swallow away. Could this conversation be over with? Dealing with increasing shame for her actions that she couldn't remember or had never felt she had done purposely, was difficult to deal with. Especially at a public event like this. Where there was a good chance someone else might be watching--- or taking a picture! Rose felt her neck heat up at the thought of a witch or wizard immortalizing this exchange in a photograph.

Fearful of that, Rose immediately picked her head up from her shoulder and let her arms drop to her sides. She really... just wanted to stop talking about this. So when Kendall gave an opportunity to move on from the subject, Rose took it.

"Or maybe something that involves no Jarvis," she smiled weekly, having zero desire to go anywhere near those creatures again. She would rather not partake in anything that created a high-level tensity situation. Rose idly reached to scratch under her ear as she thought of what something like that might be. Coming up with nothing, she lightly patted Kendall's shoulder.

"We'll think of something." Rose put on another smile for Kendall, knowing she would have to look even a little bit happy for him to believe that they were past this. Whatever "this" was. She knew it wouldn't leave her for a while, but it would not be smart to externalize those feelings, would it?

Maggie!

2012-07-30 06:25 pm UTC (link)
Public appearances! He and Maggie were pros at them, practically royalty if he didn't say so himself. Adrian couldn't remember a time that their presence had been poorly received (except for those three months that everyone hated him...), so why should tonight be any different? It had taken him a while to readjust to his former self concerning the views on the press with his wife (wife!), but once they had, Adrian found himself enjoying the fact that he didn't have to take much seriously. Not having a care in the world except for things that mattered... he liked that.

Speaking of things that mattered--- Adrian turned to Maggie. He wasn't quite yet sure how she truly felt about being here, pregnant at a quidditch-related event, but at least they wouldn't be staying the whole night? Being pregnant, at this stage, as Adrian had quickly found out, was... tiring. Yes! That was a good word. Tiring. Because there were always so many things to do and it took a lot of energy.... tiring. But it was good! All good! Except for when she woke him up at night for cravings. That wasn't as fun.

"I'm pretty sure that guy over there talking to your brother is going to start crying," Adrian said, grinning over the rim of his glass. There were few events where fans could interact with players like this, and it had turned to be very interesting to watch for most of the night. And participate in! The people that had come up to talk to them had not been like that, thankfully. They had normal fans, and friends.

Their fans and the press had been so good with them because while Adrian smiled and enjoyed himself Maggie made sure her killer glare locked on the person before they entered a five feet radius of them. After their silent acceptance of her visual threat, Maggie was more than willing to smile, laugh, and joke. There was to be no more drama in Adrian's life, nor the one they shared. She couldn't be sure she'd be able to keep herself out of trouble, no matter how hard she tried, but her family was more important than that.

It was nice, however, to bask in her own natural glow of pregnancy. She had been 'in hiding' for so long that this bump of hers that had seemingly sprouted from nowhere to the press of Great Britain had not had its proper time to shine. Now that she and Adrian were together again, and happy, and just perfect (though she wished not to jinx it), Maggie wanted people to be happy for her. It was a strange cycle. She did not want the harassment that the media could often cause, but being able to share their excitement with the world filled her heart with joy.

"Geoffrey will be dabbing his tears soon enough," Maggie said, sitting back in the chair. Her hands were folded, resting on top of her stomach as she smiled pleasantly. Her rings, she'd taken to wearing both in public though no official confirmation of anything had actually been made, sat on top, shiny and beautiful. Her legs were crossed at her ankles under the chair, but she'd slipped off her too-tight shoes a few minutes ago.

Adrian laughed, giving a final glance back over at his brother-in-law before shaking his head and looking away. No crying people for him, thanks. Just normal wizard folk expelling a normal amount of body fluid in public--- which was none. With a final shake of the head to get that last thought out, Adrian stretched to sit more comfortably with his arm across the back of Maggie's chair.

He was about to ask if she thought there would be anymore food served when a short witch appeared before them. While her sudden appearance had been surprising, Adrian tried to not appear as struck as he felt. Fans tended to act strangely, he had noticed over the years, definitely English ones more than Portuguese, so it would not be right to act strangely back.

The witch had a squeaky voice, and he was sure she also was on the verge of tears, but she did manage to speak clearly enough to convey that she loved the both of them and through that she had come up---- with a list of baby names? There was no way his face was completely calm; that was a bit creepy, wasn't it? He smiled awkwardly, and before he realized what he was doing, the parchment was in his free hand and she was crying fully---- why did unfortunate things have to happen to good people?

"I'm afraid to be touching this," he confessed in a low tone once the woman left, just incase there were any nearby listening ears. Adrian held the piece of parchment out, it being as far as his arm could extend (and how he had received it).

Theo!
[info]hollyharpie
2012-07-30 11:13 pm UTC (link)
Holly truly believed that she deserved to be an All-Star. Most of the players, if not all, acted humbled and surprised by the nomination and vote, but Holly, to keep good face, just pressed her lips into a tight smile and batted her eyes when asked how she felt. No need to let the audience know that she agreed with their decision. She was far smarter than that. She was tired of being asked how she felt because how else should she feel? Holly had lead the Arrows to a couple of victories while her teammates recovered; she honestly felt for Thomas and Saoirse because the idea of not being able to fly? That was terrifying to the All-Star.

She was also getting very tired of people asking her when she was getting married. What did it matter? They wouldn't be invited, they weren't going to get any pictures, so what did the media really care when she and Theo tied the knot? Theo seemed to care more than she did, which Holly found quite adorable (but would never say out loud). He would ask her as if she had been pestering him for dates and facts and just how many people she wanted to invite? Holly honestly was too busy to try and plan a wedding, but her obsessive nature refused to let her hire a planner. They just wouldn't get it right.

Holly made her rounds, took pictures with her fellow Mumps players, and laughed at the Bowman lineup as they acted like they stood a chance. She made sure she had a nice, clear path towards the bar where her date was ordering another drink, so that the photographers could get a good shot of her strut and dress before she disappeared for the night. Holly leaned with one elbow against the counter beside Theo and smiled up at him.

"Let's go get married tonight," she said, eyebrows going high. What could be a better night? They were already dressed up, and she was wearing white.

The second Holly left Theo's side he lost interest in the party. He always hated these sorts of gala's, the only fun he had ever had at them was with Holly. He smiled into his drink watching her pose for the photographers. She was looking amazing tonight, he couldn't take his eyes off of her. He had been tempted multiple times to comment on her white dress.

It wasn't that he was overly concerned about the details of the wedding. Because he wasn't. It was frivolous to have a big party just to announce that you were officially married. Just who was he going to announce it too? He hadn't even told his brother he was engaged. And of course with quidditch season in full swing, Holly had more important things to focus on than to planning a wedding. He didn't feel the need to have a big party to show everyone else that they were happily married, he had already done that once, and just look how that turned out. Granted the real difference probably had a lot to do with the fact that he didn't want to get married then in the first place. With Holly though, he wanted to be married. He wouldn't mind the waiting so much if he actually had a date in which it ended. But he'd decided to leave it all up to Holly. It wasn't like he was being asked everyday when the wedding was after all.

He shook the thought from his head ordering himself another drink and one for Holly. It was probably time to go steal her back from the photographers and her teammates. He had his fill of standing at the bar alone for the night. "I was just coming to find you." Theo said when he turned to find Holly standing beside him. What ever else he was going to say after that died on his lips.

He blinked a time or two as he processed what she had just said. Well, that was the last thing he had expected her to say. Holly was among the few that could catch him off guard, and the only person he didn't mind it from. "If you don't mind missing your party, then who am I to object." Theo agreed with an air of nonchalance. The smile he was fighting off his face would probably give him away. She most likely knew most of his tells by this point.

She winked, enjoying the sight of his restrained excitement. Holly had never felt the need to get married or understood why some women (especially her friends in Slytherin) so desperately needed that ring on their finger. What could a husband get her that she couldn't find herself? He could supposedly give her the world, but she already had her own. Holly was finding that accepting Theo's proposal, giving him her own proposal and all the other things she did with him were for him, and doing things for this man made her feel good. It made her feel happy.

Her smile widened.

Holly gestured for him to down the drink that had been set on the counter in front of him, but before he could reach for it she picked it up and took a small swig herself; some liquid courage couldn't hurt, right? Holly handed the glass back to Theo, not wanting it to go to waste.

"I can have a party any time." There were always reasons to celebrate her. Holly began to hurry him again, her excitement growing though she didn't see how their lives would change once that marriage license was signed. She wasn't going to drop her broom and become a doting housewife, ready to pop out his babies whenever he felt like adding to his inheritance. Holly had not even allowed the idea of children enter their conversations, as Theodore was enough and perfect, thanks. She tugged on his sleeve, "Hurry it up before I change my mind."

Theo downed his drink. He placed the empty bar glass on the counter and dropped a few coins next to it. Probably more than he normally would have but he was suddenly in a generous mood and didn't quite feel like waiting for change.

His hands now free, Theo turned back to Holly and placed them on her waist pulling her close to him for a kiss. Generally he frowned on such public displays of affection, but it there were ever a time for an exception this would be it.

"It's cute that you think that I'll let you change your mind now." he said stealing another kiss. Now that she had said it, there was no way that this night was going to end without them being married. "Alright, I'm ready, let's go. Lead the way." he hooked his arm with hers.
