GORDON RAMSAY
Real Americannnnnn Scottishhhh heroooooessss! Gordon Ramsay is awesome. He swears like a sailor, he makes cooking
look simple, and his tolerance for bullshit and sub-par standards is low, way low.
Some of the most memorable lines I have ever heard have escaped Ramsay's mouth in an exasperated fit, usually while looking on at such bullshit as incompetent Hell's Kitchen contestants or clueless restauranteurs in Kitchen Nightmares. Such gems such as: "You donkey!", "Fuck me..." and "Fucking hell" have entered my regular vernacular.
I am currently an editor. Today during work, like most days at work when I am overlooking article submissions, I start to think in Ramsay's voice. The quote running through my head today was one that was uttered to a pompous douchebag of a restaurant owner named Sebastian in the American version of Kitchen Nightmares.
Gordon said to the naive drama queen,
"I have never, ever, ever met someone I believe in as little as you."Most of the time I hear, "My
GOD. What
IS that?" or "Fuck the lot of you. Is that clear? Fuck the lot of you." I'm tempted to stick a picture of Ramsay up by my desk, with interchangeable quotes. Don't think they'd appreciate swear words though.
You've got to admit, the man has stringent standards...and that's the way it should be. He doesn't let shitty food leave the pass, I don't let shitty writers try and get their awfully-written crap or plagiarized submissions past me. We do different things, but the standards are the same. It's hard upholding high standards in an age of cutting corners, sloppiness, and general apathy. I admire that.
Also, have you seen what Ramsay can churn out of the kitchen? Damn, it all looks fabulous and delicious, even if I don't really like some of the ingredients used (fish, for one). If you can make salmon look appetizing to me (Did I mention I hate fish?), you've gone above and beyond, good sir. I'd love to recreate some of his recipes, even though I've got all the cooking skills of a lower-tier Hell's Kitchen contestant. Snark.
Ramsay should be honored in a beer commercial. He'd be a Real American Hero, even though he's a Scot. We'll just ignore that last bit. I think it's "Real Men of Genius" now though. Still works!
