Who: Mira Jasper & Seth Wadcock with an appearance by Bianca Vaisey
What: Oh noes! The truth comes out.
Where: Apartment! Hallway!
When: Now!
“Biaaanca!” Mira yelled, hoping across their small living room with one heel on. Seth was here knocking on the door already, and she had no idea where the other one was! Why why why--- she hated being late. Being prompt for dates was important! And Seth had told her to dress formal, how could she act seductive and sexy if she was so flustered!
All her other clothes and accessories stayed within the confines of her room, but her shoes? Nooo, they always did this. They were everywhere but where they should be. She had once found a pair wedged behind the bathroom sink once. Under the carpet, in the kitchen, hanging from the walls... it was embarrassing actually. Her shoes were her babies, and she lost them all the time. Not a good life sign.
Panicking just a little, Mira skidded across the hall and into Bianca’s room. Maybe they would be here? It wouldn’t be the first time. “Please,” she spoke, putting her palms together to make a pleading pose at her best friend. “I just need two more minutes!” Mira faux whimpered slightly, sticking out her bottom lip for a pout. She knew it was silly, but she didn’t want Seth seeing as anything but put together yet.
Bianca was in one of her now frequent ‘I’m-pregnant-please-pity-me’ moods. She was sprawled across her bed, listening to the news on her wireless when Mira burst in. She really was not in the mood to entertain Mira’s new boyfriend, but she supposed that her best friend had been quite amazing through the last few months (ignoring the hermiting that Mira had done with the Black fallout), so the least she could do was sit the bloke down in the living room, or something.
She sat up and threw on a jumper, pulling her hair back into a tight ponytail to slick down the frizz. Mira earned herself a huff and a glare, but Bianca shuffled down the corridor to let this Seth character in. He better be nice, Bianca could not deal with another obnoxious bloke like Sirius, even though her current taste in men was forcing her to keep her opinions on Mira’s dating life to her self. Bianca stretched greatly before she opened the door, ready to announce that Mira would be ready in a minute, but instead found herself stuck, frozen mid-stretch at the sight of Seth Bloody Wadcock.
“I---I---” she stuttered, dropping her arms and patting down her hair because how could she look like such a wreck in front of Seth Wadcock? Holy, holy, holy, Magpies----Holy Magpies! Bianca blinked furiously, finally putting together that Mira’s Seth was actually Seth Wadcock in a matter of a few seconds and----Holy Magpies! “Come in!”
Bianca winced, realizing that she’d just squeaked in front of Seth Bloody Wadcock.
Seth was nervous, not about the date. He relaxed quite a bit after their first date, but tonight, he was going to tell Mira that he had a daughter. It wasn’t like he was hiding it from her, more that it didn’t exactly come up. Not exactly the topic you bring up on the first few dates, but if he waited much longer, that would be a disaster. He had a plan. First tell her about Leanne, and then, after, once he found out how she reacted to that, he would let her in on his profession.
So he was taking her out to a nice dinner and hoped all would go smoothly. He had been working so hard on this. He knocked on her door flowers in hand and waited. And waited.
“About time you--” he started when the door opened but stopped short, smirk falling off his face when he saw that it wasn’t Mira, but her roommate. Her roommate that obviously payed far more attention to Quidditch based on her reaction. She was stuttering. And she practically squeaked. Oh merlin, this was going to be a disaster. He had been doing so well too, avoiding the paparazzi and such while he was with her. It was a miracle really, he should of know it wouldn’t last forever.
“Hi. You must be Bianca.” He said pleasantly trying to think quickly. It would look terrible if he asked her to not say anything. She would think he was up to something. “I’m Seth.” he introduced himself, going with how this situation would normally go if he weren’t Seth Wadcock. Except that didn’t help at all, this right here was the reaction he was use to, this is why Mira was such a breath of fresh air.
“This is going to sound bad, but what are the chances of you acting like you have no idea who I am? She doesn’t know. I’m going to tell her just not---” he asked lowering his voice to a whisper, speaking quickly, except the look of shock wasn’t really leaving her face. There was no way Mira wasn’t going to notice. “Tickets.” he said quickly hearing Mira moving about in the other room of the flat. Not at all above bribery at this point, although he had a feeling that it was all very fruitless. “Box tickets, please.”
Bianca gaped up at Seth Wadcock, unable to take the shocked expression off her face. Sure, she’d done security for some quidditch events, but they’d just passed her without a second look. Seth Wadcock was talking to her. And---asking her to lie to Mira?
She didn’t know he was a famous quidditch player? Bianca inwardly sighed; she loved her friend but sometimes she wanted to strangle the girl. Seth Wadcock had been all over the papers this past year! He had a terrible reputation, supposedly he’d broken up marriages and such, who knew, but----Bianca frowned and involuntarily pulled up the sleeves of her jumper as she pointed a threatening finger straight up at Seth,
“I’m a hitwizard so I can kick your ass, you better not fuck her over,” she threatened. As quick as the threat had come (and with one last sharp point of her finger), a smile appeared on her face and Bianca turned back into the flat, “Mira! Your date’s here!”
“Right. Actually don’t doubt that a bit.” Seth said after her threat following her into the flat. “But I really have no intention to give you a reason to follow through with that, so, thank you. I’ll send the tickets off first thing tomorrow. Won’t regret it, promise.” He gave her a charming smile, looking around the flat, unsure what to do now.
He was actually surprised that he was allowed inside at all. Before when he picked her up, she just breezed out the door, quickly shutting it behind her. Everything was so neat and orderly, it was so vastly different from his own place where mostly everything was a mess. Hazards of living with a two year old.
For the love of--- she knew he was here, that was why she had sent Bianca out there to talk to him. It took a lot of restrain to not scream out a response (that wasn’t very lady-like), the relief of finding her other heel containing most of her frustration! It had been hiding spinelessly under Bianca’s bed, along with a couple of others.... she would get those later.
Taking a deep breath, Mira checked herself in Bianca’s door mirror before leaving the room. She readjusted her dress, flicked a few loose hairs out of her face and did a quick teeth check. Perfect! Now she was ready. Taking a soothing breath, walked out of the bedroom and into their common space to catch the tail end of their conversation.
“Tickets for what?” Mira asked curiously, not expecting for Bianca and Seth to have any form of substantial conversation. She looked curiously at Bianca first, then--- oh, and he brought flowers. She was always a sucker for flowers. “Hello,” she interjected warmly before proceeded toward him, smiling as she waited for his response.
“Oh nothing really.” he said vaguely, wrapping an arm around her waist and ducking down to kiss her cheek in greeting. He cut his eyes over to Bianca quickly, before turning his attention back to Mira. “Just a small peace offering, so your friend here doesn’t come after me in the middle of the night.” he said avoiding out right lying to her.
“You look absolutely stunning tonight, by the way. I can’t believe you went to all the trouble for little ol’ me.” he said changing the subject.
Mira blinked, finding Seth’s response odd. She looked away from him to Bianca, hoping to get some clue on this bad joke, but her friend’s face was blank. And not like ‘I have nothing to say blank’ but her work blank face, the one that she used when she didn’t want to talk about something. That was odd, too. Mira’s head tilted to the side slightly, and she redirected her gaze back up to Seth.
“Why would she do that?” she asked, shifting slightly in his grasp. To avoid making this appear too serious (for all she knew---- a lot of things could be happening here), Mira let out a small laugh as she shook her head from side to side. This had the potential to turn out awkwardly; not exactly the way she envisioned Seth meeting anyone important to her. Taking her gaze off from him, she reached for the flowers to smell them.
Seth handed her the bouquet, trying to think of something clever, anything that could possibly make sense. That wouldn’t give him away, this was not what he planned to tell her tonight. If she found out about this first, then in result she would find out about Leanne and that-- that would be worse than him telling her himself. Like he planned. This is why he didn’t make plans, because plans backfire. And that can’t happen if there is no plan in the first place.
He shot Bianca a please help me here look while Mira was focused on the flowers. He was floundering so badly. All he could think was this is not how its suppose to work at all. “Er, that’s what friends do, right? Threaten the new boyfriend and such?” .He said, trying to make it sound like it was obviously the correct answer.
Bianca had to turn away to hide the rolling of her eyes. Why hadn’t he told her? Why would you want to start a new relationship on a lie? He was rather old too, actually; Bianca usually didn’t care about those sort of things, but now she was looking for anything to hate Seth with. Well--okay that was harsh, she didn’t hate him, but this could seriously blow up in all of their faces. She did not want to be part of his elaborate lie, and he’d sort of forced her into it and---she really didn’t appreciate that, now that she was over the initial shock of Seth Wadcock coming to their door.
Ugh. She had to figure this one out on her own.
She made her way to the kitchen that was attached to the living room and Bianca opened the fridge, forcing herself to look away because she didn’t want to lose her focus, “So, Seth! What do you do for a living? You’re a strapping young fellow.” There. He’d just have to work with that. It wasn’t like he was a death eater, or something.
Seth couldn’t help the slightly horrified look that came over his face. How--How could she just throw him into the fire like that. Granted, the topic had come up before but they were already out on their date at that point and it was easier to get away with muttering ‘Oh I just do some seasonal stuff with the Quidditch League’ and then distract her onto another topic.
He schooled his face quickly, an easy smile settling into place. “Well, as fascinating as my line of work is, we really don’t have the time to sit and chat now. Got reservations at this popular place and they’ll give your table away if you’re late. I’ll be sure to tell you all about it next time I’m over though.” There. That bought him plenty of time to tell Mira himself, without her judgy roommate standing right there.
He offered his arm to Mira. “Shall we? I do hope you enjoy Moroccan food.”
Mira opened her mouth to speak, but soon found herself being whisked out of the apartment as soon as she touched Seth’s arm. Wait. She might not be sharp concerning everything in life, but she at least was sharp enough to proudly uphold Slytherin tradition. Seth was acting strange; something was going on here. He was all too eager to just up and leave, and then with Bianca--- she was going to figure this out.
Her annoyance of not understanding what was happening was only fueled even further by Seth’s last statement. Of course she liked Moroccan food, she was bloody Moroccan! She knew Seth had no way of knowing that, but regardless it still seemed to spur her agitation enough to want answers now. As soon as they reached the next landing on the stairs, she planted her heels into the ground, refusing to take another step forward.
“Wait---” she started, tugging her arm out of his grasp. “What are you doing? What’s going on here? Why are you acting strange?” Mira spoke harshly, her tone very much demanding. She swore to Allah if this man was hiding something from her he would never see the light of day again. The very last thing she needed was another Sirius.
“Taking you to dinner?” he tried fidgeting slightly under her look. Then he sighed. He couldn’t lie to her. Lying is what he did before, to one night stands and people he didn’t care about. So he would just tell her, everything. And then do his best to smooth it all over.
“Look, you can’t be mad okay. I was going to tell you tonight, after dinner. Had it all planned out.” Seth started. “And I haven’t been hiding it, the one thing that is the other is a bit more complicated. Its just, well its not something you bring up on a first date. Or maybe you do, I don’t know I’m horrible at this dating thing...” and he was rambling because he could see her storming off. Any second.
He took a breath and tried to calm himself, because he probably looked like an idiot at this point. Alright, he was just going to say it because there was no other way to do this. All at once then. “I have a kid. A two and a half year old daughter. Its this really long drawn out story that involves me being a huge prat because well, because I’m Seth bloody Wadcock and I thought I could do whatever I wanted or get what ever the hell I wanted, damn the consequences because I’ve won Quidditch Cups and I was bloody Captain of Magpies before that all went to shit. I made this awful reputation for myself and that’s all anyone ever sees me for, even if its not true anymore.”
He pause for a second, running a hand through his hair, hoping she would understand. “Everyone but you. When you didn’t recognize me I just...went with it, because it gave me a chance to just be me without you already having some opinion already formed based on some third party information. I was going to tell you, tonight about Leanne, everything really, it all kinda goes together, in a much more eloquent fashion.” he shrugged trailing off. “I wasn’t hiding it, I was just waiting for the right time to tell you.”
Mira didn’t know what she had been expecting, but this word vomit from Seth definitely had not been on her short list. Quidditch? Captain? Daughter? Reputation? And--- she shook her head, her hair falling down over her face as she redirected her gaze to the ground. This was a lot to take in, standing in the middle of an empty stairwell. Though, she guessed now it was better than in a crowed restaurant; then she would feel like she was being suffocated.
Overwhelmed, she suddenly felt very overwhelmed. So--- what, he was this famous Quidditch player that everyone thought was a jerk and he only liked her because she was too dumb to not know who he was? Oh, and who also had a kid. That was why Bianca had acted strangely, and why they had gone to very private places on dates and--- holy shit. This wasn’t exactly sitting well in her stomach.
A kind of uncontrollable panic rose through her entire body, eventually becoming stuck in her throat. “I have to go,” Mira spoke suddenly, feeling her eyes swell. She would not cry! It wasn’t-- there was nothing to cry about, he could have said many, many worse things. But maybe this was just hitting too close to home with the ‘I wasn’t telling you the truth about me” for her to brush off easily.
“I just--- need--” she cut herself off, shaking her head as she took a few wobbly sets back up the stairs.
“Wait, wait.” he said taking a step towards her, imploring her to stay. “Don’t go, talk to me. I know, I know this sounds bad, but I can’t fix anything if you don’t talk to me.”
He didn’t know what to say. He had no idea what she was thinking, how she was reacting other than she ‘had to go’. Was that a ‘I have to go, and I never want to see you again’ or an ‘I have to go, I just need a bit of time’. “I’m sorry. I should of told you up front...but I was scared you’d think differently of me if you knew, that you would act differently around me. But now I know you better, I know your not that type of person. I was going to tell you, tonight.” he repeated again.
It didn’t matter when he had been planning on telling her all of this, the affect was still the same. This was a lot to handle, and while usually Mira could handle herself easily in almost any situation, he had caught her completely off guard. He just! Dumped all of this on her! Quidditch... daughter... that was a lot to swallow all at once! They had only been dating for a while! It wasn’t that she was angry (well, maybe a bit), just that this fear was quickly taking over her. No control, no control over this entire situation.
Mira shook her head from side to side, her grip on the banister tightening. No, no, she just needed time to think, air to breathe. He was right there! Just sort of.... hovering. She didn’t need anymore of his explaining or words, just some alone time, and then some Bianca time. Away from him.
Shaking him off was easier said than done, however. As she took a few more steps forward, he followed her like her shadow. It was unnecessary, but she quickly realized the only way to escape him would have to be through sharp words. Be mean before she really meant it, and who knew the length of that devastation. So she turned on him, whipping around to catch his gaze.
“No, Seth! I don’t want to hear it!” she snapped, her body straightening out to help exude her dominance. “You can’t just--- tell me all of this and expect for everything to be fine. I need to be away from you right now.”
Seth stopped and back down a couple of stairs when she turned on him. He didn’t expect everything to be fine but he didn’t want to be shut out either. He just wanted her to understand. “I don’t--- I just---” he ran his hand through his hair trying to figure out what to say, but when he looked back up at Mira he stopped short. The look on her face clearly said that it wasn’t going to help. Whatever he said wasn’t going to change a thing. Not now anyways.
“Right.” he said swallowing. “Right, well, I guess I’ll just go then.” he said quietly trying his very best not to look like someone had just kicked his puppy. He turned and headed down the rest of the stairs back to the landing they were on before stopping. He turned to say something else but decided against it. What else could he say that wouldn’t sound trite, so he just continued down the stairs. He would give her what she wanted. Space. Time. Whatever. He’d try owling in a few days if he hadn’t heard from her.
