IN CHARACTER CHARACTER NAME: Frank Algerius Longbottom BIRTH DATE: October 11, 1957. AGE: 17. BLOODLINE: Pureblood. SEXUALITY: Straight as a very straight arrow! HOUSE: Gryffindor, 7th year. EXTRACURRICULARS: Head Boy! AFFILIATION: Frank Algerius Longbottom, although assuredly one of the purest of the pureblooded, does indeed like to defy the usual standard. He simply refuses to conform to the general belief that purer is better - after all, he's encountered many a talented witch and wizard during his life to realise that greatness doesn't really stem from lineage. Thus, although he's grown up in a society that scorns Muggleborns, Frank is quite ready to rebel against this close-minded belief. While he hasn't yet been invited to join the Order of the Phoenix, there is no doubt in his mind regarding which side is the right side; Frank, being fairly simpleminded about certain things, thus wants to be an Auror in order to fight for his beliefs, which include defying Lord Voldemort and everything he stands for. PLAYED-BY: Julian Morris. OPTIONAL HISTORY: I've attempted to incorporate some events into Frank's personality; of course, if it's not suitable, I'd be happy to write an additional history section!
PERSONALITY: Frank can be quite succinctly described as the quintessential good guy. A Gryffindor to the very core, Frank has a sense of honour a mile wide, a tendency to martyr himself, and the ability to become exceedingly self-righteous at the drop of a hat. Despite this, Frank isn't entirely self-sacrificing - after all, he's a seventeen year old boy, and thus prone to be quite selfish at times!
One major aspect of his personality is Frank's ability to be affable to nearly anyone and everyone he meets. He's one of those types who likes to be liked, and does everything within his power to make sure that he is! Always smiling, always laughing, and always ready to tell a good joke, Frank is quite a talented conversationalist, and is often able to make a great first impression upon those he meets. He's a social type, comfortable in nearly any setting he finds himself in (unless, of course, it's a setting comprised of uppity Slytherins with their narrow-minded view), and is, in general, fairly laid-back about most things. Being of an open-minded nature, Frank isn't the type to judge people hastily; instead, he's quite open to getting to know people before deciding how he truly feels about them.
However, Frank is indeed a Gryffindor and thereby rather prone to making rash decisions from time-to-time. If his sense of what's right and what's wrong is jabbed at in any way, or if one of his loved ones are threatened, Frank won't hesitate to tell the person at fault exactly what he thinks of them. He's a courageous bloke, unafraid of getting hurt if push has to come to shove; although Frank's temper may not be easily sparked, if it ever is, he's not someone to be messed around with! Since he's assuredly on his way to becoming an Auror, it is quite clear that Frank is unafraid of the possibility of injury or death; although the idea of dying for his cause, whatever it may be, does incite a bit of wariness in him, Frank won't hesitate to do what he believes is right. Due to his acute sense of loyalty, if you make friends with Frank, you've made a friend for life - he's the type that would die for anyone he cares about, simply because the idea of living with the knowledge that he could have done something but didn't is one that he can't bear.
Although Frank may not be the most ambitious bloke to reside at Hogwarts, he definitely has his share of ambition - ever since he was young, Frank has been awed by the notion of becoming an Auror. While Augusta Longbottom often claims that isn't an appropriate career for the heir to the future patriarch of the Longbottom family, Frank simply doesn't care. He adores the idea of being in the middle of the action, being able to actively fight against You-Know-Who, and just being able to make a difference. He knows that it all sounds terribly cliche and trite, but Frank's never been one to care about other peoples' opinions - he goes after what he wants, and if someone dares to disapprove, they can quite politely go bugger themselves.
Nevertheless, it is Frank's aspiration to be the best Auror that ever Auror-ed that's led him to excel in his studies; he knows that it takes a great deal of toil and hard work to achieve your dreams, especially if they're as seemingly unattainable as a spot in the selective Auror-training program, and thus, he's done all he can to get those sought-after Os and Es in his classes. Although Frank does decently in all of his classes, he's particularly talented at Charms; in fact, it is by far his favourite subject. However, while Frank does rather well in terms of academics, he's rather hopeless when it comes to the more physical side of things, ie: Quidditch. Frank is utterly inept at flying a broom; despite the countless number of times that he's attempted to try, he always finds himself falling face-first to the ground about five minutes into his ride. Nevertheless, being Frank, he's always eager to try once again - thus, it's rather normal to see Frank coming into the school looking bruised and battered on the weekends, holding one of the school brooms, split in half, in one hand.
All in all, Frank is an open-minded boy; although he's grown up in an environment that's known for being both selective and scornful, he has both tried and succeeded at defying the norm. Amiable, easygoing, and eternally helpful, Frank is the type of boy who doesn't have trouble making friends, nor have trouble keeping them. A friend for life, and an enemy for one, too, if you manage to be one of the unlucky few to make it onto his bad side, he will always fight for what he believes is right, whether he make it into the Auror program of his dreams or otherwise.
SAMPLE JOURNAL ENTRY: These things are rather nifty, aren't they? I reckon they'll be dead handy for keeping in touch with people, especially after this year, when I'm no longer at the castle. Funny, isn't it, that I'm already thinking about the end of this school year when it hasn't even begun yet? We should be getting our Hogwarts letters soon, I think, but I don't expect there to be anything new. A list of books, a welcome letter, and...well, that's it. Not very exciting, if you ask me, but my mum seems to go into a frenzy every time that school owl lands on our windowsill. "Time to go to Diagon Alley!" she says. "You'll need new books! And robes, because the ones you have are completely frayed at the hem! Oh, and we mustn't forget..." Yeah, Mum. I know, I've been doing the same thing for six years now, haven't I?
So, we've received the invitations for the Blacks' party, and I suppose I'll be there tomorrow. Are any of you lot as in, anyone but a bunch of uppity Slytherins planning to come? I'm sure it'll be a right horrible time brilliant party, and a welcome change from being stuck in this house all day long. Merlin, if my mum tells me one more time that practicing Charms isn't a respectable thing to do, I may just go mad. |
