All Hallow's Eve
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half".

On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others.

It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors.

It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest.

Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

	It's a little hard to decide what costume to wear when you've already got the gear of the greatest hero you've never heard of, but Riley had ultimately decided to go with a classic. Bond. James Bond. His suit may or may not be an extra from one of the actual movie sets. (Reply to this)

	Petra has always had only one setting for any costumed event, and it is 'diva'. That's why she'll be picking up Din to go to a party dressed in a wonderful black number of Joan Holloway's. The annual slew of cheaply made tawdry numbers can go burn; she prefers something with a bit more class. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Dinadan had briefly -- very briefly -- considered going as a zombie. He chose to take that as a sign he might finally be recovering from the previous year's major event. He actually chooses to keep it simple and go with a suit, a snazzy hat, and a name tag reading "Hello, I am the Future". He's just not up to dying himself blue this year. 	Iris loved Halloween. She had helped decorate the Brownstone and then put on her costume. This year she decided to go as a female pirate. She tried not to eat too much candy, but she loved sugar and chocolate. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	It's not easy to tie-dye a pair of mini-angel wings, but Tess, being Tess, had figured something out. This those and a good classical tunic-dress, she made a pretty decent Goddess Iris. She smiled at Pirate Iris. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Alina was invited, but hadn't been sure if she could make it, with younger relatives and family stuff and all, so he just let her know she could join them if she teleported in. 	Ash is still trying to deal with... things. So she decided to deck herself out in a Xena outfit and go walking. At least this way she would be armed in case anything happened. She also had a phone on her in case anyone wanted to call her. So Ash is having fun walking the streets of San Fransisco taking in the sights. (Reply to this)

	Cindy had her reasonably modest, archaic-looking rough-silk skirt and top, and a stick. She'd managed to explain the entire phenomenon to Saishu enough to get her into the Xena outfit. It hadn't been too hard, solely because Saishu was fantastic like that. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	Yeah, Saishu really had no trouble being convinced to dress up... or down... as a warrior woman. The only trick has been getting her to stop practicing with her chakrum. Really, she's kind of starting to like this thing... and has put it through a couple walls. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Cait helped the Titans decorate the Tower. She didn't fully understand most surface holidays, but dressing up was fun and she did like some of the candy. This year she was dressed as Guinevere and Ty was King Arthur. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	For one Will Freeman and his girlfriend, they went small yet fitting for the holiday. They managed to score tickets for an All Night Horror Movie show at the old one screen theater in downtown Fawcett. Will had come dressed as one of the most famous detectives of literature. 	Avia, naturally, had gone a little more daring. Which probably said something about her that she only considered that a "little" daring. Besides being something she'd pick normally, at least a small part of this was for Will, in its way. Since this was his hometown, she wanted to make an impression on people there.
