Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Mary and Gabriel
What: That which comes before Part B: PARTAY!
When: Friday evening

Mary felt very at ease in her dress, despite looking like a giant purple balloon. Michael had been kicking her non-stop since she started getting ready, but she hadn't paid it much attention.

Things felt good tonight and she was ready to be out on the town, ready to spend a little more time with Gabriel before Michael got here. Tonight would also provide an opportunity, she hoped, to break the news to him about the letter that was currently sitting on the nightstand by her bed. It was the biggest opportunity of her life, creating a huge crossroad and decision to make about what her future would hold. She heard a faint pop in the living room and carefully waddled out, smiling at the sight of Gabriel. "Well, aren't you just dapper!"

Gabriel had decided, that after his parents had completely ignored him at the hospital wing at Hogwarts while checking on Rebecca, that he was not going to worry anymore. Not until Michael was here, anyway. He had forced himself, with a night of writing a rather long and winding letter to his parents that he never sent, to push the past away and await the future. That was all he could do now, wasn't it? Gabriel had gone too long with being fidgety and nervous; that image of himself was the last thing he wanted his son to see.

With the weight off his shoulders, it was much easier to be around Mary. Gabriel would quickly admit that things had become so strained and awkward because of him, but he was trying to make up for those months. The nursery, the beginning of the library, and most recently the invitation to the Slug Club party. Gabriel really had no desire to attend, but it was a reason to dress up and mingle, something he knew women liked.

Especially women who had been bedridden for nearly two weeks now.

"Why thank you," he said, looking over himself for a second before turning his gaze upon Mary, "And you clean up quite well, miss."

Mary was certainly in need of dressing up and mingling. At first she wasn't sure she wanted to pull out the dress for the evening, wondering if her protruding belly would be too much. But after looking over herself in the mirror, she decided it was completely acceptable and appropriate. She loved her stomach, she loved knowing that her son would be in her arms in a matter of weeks. She was terrified, that was for sure, but she wanted to finally see him.

"I hope you're ready to dance," she said with a soft smile, making her way across the room to where he stood. "because I think our son is anxious to get out on the floor." He was currently pressing up against her stomach, the pressure just to the right of her belly button was strong but tolerable. "He's been moving about all day," she said calmly, her hand moving to press gently against his tiny body. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but there was a strange feeling in her stomach. But why worry about silly things like that when they had places to be and things to do? She sucked in a slow breath, the look of confusion slowly turning into a smile. Everything was going to be fine tonight.

"Maybe he's inherited my ballroom dancing skills, and won't have to suffer through any of those droning lessons," Gabriel noted, glad that Michael was being so active. With the scare they'd had a few weeks ago, Gabriel was more inclined to have his son bouncing around and keeping Mary awake than the opposite. Of course, he wasn't the one getting his insides pulverized by tiny feet, but he could sense that Mary felt about the same as he did.

"I'm not sure how much dancing there will be, actually," Gabriel said, crossing the living room to pick up what looked like Mary's shawl, "Slughorn's more into the talking your ear off kind of experience. Though if there are Hobgoblins there, I'm sure there'll be some toe tapping going on."
