Open to 77ers!
Okay, so this reunion?

FANTASTIC IDEA.

Giada couldn't even---there was just so---IT WAS ALL JUST SO EXCITING. She'd seen these people and talked to them and what have you, but to have everyone grouped together, it was--brilliant! The stories that came up and the laughter and it was just right, and she felt like this was absolutely what everyone needed. It seemed like everyone in their year had been touched by the war, and--it was definitely noticeable with some people, but wasn't it better to try and move on with people who actually cared about you, then to sit and let time try to fix everything? Sometimes you needed a smile or a hug, it was just human nature.

Or it was just Giada Vance's nature, but! It was a good medicine, she liked to think.

The hall was gorgeous, and she found herself adjusting the plates and utensils and cups on the buffet table to make them alternate in position and just---looking perfect, because everything was perfect! Almost! It was as perfect as it could possibly be, and that was AWESOME.

She whirled around at a hand on her elbow, and Giada's face lit up brightly, "OH MY GOSH HI!" she let out, literally throwing her arms around them.

Any excuse for a party.

At least, that used to be Rachel's view on things. And while she still enjoyed socializing, parties just seemed so very stressful, yet completely monotonous. But the twenty-one-year-old was trying her best to remain optimistic about this one, as she shot a glance in one of the reflective glass panes of the windows and patted a wisp of her hair down.

She hoped seeing all her old schoolmates would be successful. Rachel had left school an entirely different person than she liked to think she was now, but how many people who would be here tonight knew that? The only one whom she had told about any of the major disturbances and changes in her life had been Giada--and while she had an inkling that the news spread a bit, it was still relatively... contained. Which meant how was Rachel supposed to present herself tonight? She was always poised, always perfect, and always smug, but attitude was an entirely different thing. It would feel good, to slip back into the princess act.

Overthinking. She was overthinking this, and it was irritating her, and Rachel hated being irritated. Exerting her annoyance one one of the decorations, she tugged it into a different spot, stepping back to look at it with a tilt of her head.

"I think it's still crooked," Rachel sighed.

"Depends on how you look at it," Edward mused from behind Rachel, taking the moment to take a sip of his drink before smiling widely at her.

Usually he wouldn't have thought twice about not attending a social gathering like this simply on the fact that he really wasn't a social person to begin with. The thought of it being a school reunion, nonetheless, made the whole prospect even more unappealing, but-- Giada and Rachel would have attacked him in his sleep if he didn't show up. And not just because, technically speaking, he had been somewhat invovled in the process of the idea of having a reunion.

Though honestly, the appeal of seeing Rachel act 'whimsical' was a deciding factor to make him get there, and on time.

Derek too, of course, his friend hadn't been the same since January, so Edward felt like the least he could do was watch over his friend to the best of his ability during the night. Since... he had had a hand in making Derek come here tonight in the first place.

"It's fine," he finished, shurgging his shoulders at her. Really, the last thing people were going to be noticing was one decoration slightly out of place tonight.

Turning to face him, she raised her eyebrows as high as they would go. "Well, I suppose since you think they're fine, that should end the matter." But her face was smiling--albeit, rather smugly. If this was the sort of company she could expect to see for the majority of the evening, perhaps it wouldn't be a night of boredom. Not, of course, that she didn't have the privilege of seeing Edward Pennifold often. At, say, luncheons to which he had very clearly not been invited.

"I hope you have been having a most pleasurable evening, Mister Pennifold," Rachel said, in a brisk, business-like tone. "Clearly, we have gone through much trouble to ensure a wonderful time for you."

"Good," Edward smiled smugly, raising his drink slightly in a toast-like gesture. Since, obviously, his opinion did matter greatly to most people-- being an editor had that kind of perk. Which also meant he was ninety percent of the time correct. Little known fact for anyone that card to know.

Edward held back rolling his eyes at her, or giving any kind of emotional response, really, as she addressed him again. Mister Pennifold? Really. Did she think he was an old man? Or anything but her peer for the last ten years? Though, he supposed that they had kept up this game of addressing each other strangely for quite some time that breaking it now would be even stranger than going along with it. Or would it just throw her off, which ultimately had been the goal so many years ago?

Hm. What a conundrum.

"Oh yes. Though I can't see why, it's not like I personally am that hard to please," he mused, opting to break the tone that Rachel was trying to set.

This man, much as she hated to admit it (and therefore would not, ever, not to anyone but herself--and even then--) pushed her buttons. Not in the--saucy way; he simply aggravated her.

A lot, actually.

And while he was a good friend of hers (though how they got to be so, Rachel could never understand), it didn't alter the fact that she wanted to grab the heaviest thing near them and take a good whack at him.

But of course, she didn't.

"Is that so? I personally find you a tremendous pain in certain areas that are not ladylike to mention in public," Rachel said as sweetly as she could manage.

She turned her attention back to the delinquent ribbon.

Three years ago Graciela would have sworn that she would never have willingly sat in a room with the students who made up her graduating year of Hogwarts. She was happy to get out of the school and away from the trouble she went through making friends, and the roommates who made the seven years very hard to survive to survive. So being here was bewildering.

She probably would not have been able to do it if she had not met Alex, and gone through all she did with him. Of course, being a published and successful author, along with a mother, did give you some self-esteem, but she did have to thank Alex for about half of that. A one and three months old, half.

After gushing to Giada about wedding talk, Graciela sat and let out a long breath, looking around. Alex had disappeared? Or gone to get drinks, maybe. Though she could believe that he slipped home, which made her laugh to herself.

The dress she had picked for this occasion was perhaps a bit too short for her liking - it showed way more leg than she usually did - but she figured that this was part of her Fancy New Catchlove stage. Her shoulder-length hair was swept up and pinned to the back of her head, and she arrived a half an hour after the schedule start time.

A '77 reunion - how marvelous! Most of her best friends had been from this year, and sigh, the memories! She made a bit of a round, stopping to hug, exclaim, and exchange fond memories and stories. She had accepted a glass of wine, and nibbling on a slice of pound cake, she wandered around again, and her eyes fell upon a dark haired girl sitting about two feet away from her, and caught her eye. Giving her a bit of a wave, Stefana approached.

"Graciela Cervantes!" she exclaimed, taking a seat next to her. "Or, Smith, pardon me! I haven't seen you in forever, that was quite a book you wrote!"

The two weren't exactly the best of friends back at Hogwarts - or, actually friends at all. Bossy Bess Zeller had been the Queen Bee, popular and dictator-like. Although she had never been overtly mean to Graciela, it was due to her friend's influence that she mainly ignored the other girl or peeked at her homework when Bess would take it. The friendliness in her voice was genuine, and perhaps brought upon with more than a bit of guilt - she knew that treating a girl that they lived with for seven years was not the nicest thing to do, and for the most part, Stefana was truly glad to see that Graciela seemed to have found success and happiness.

She could not deny that she was a bit startled by the approach, but it was very welcome and exciting. Graciela was no longer the scared, meek little girl she was in school, and even if the conversation did turn out poorly, she was very sure that she would be able to handle herself if things did not go well.

"Thank you!" she exclaimed, feeling herself straighten up at the compliment. She was very proud of her book, it was the reason why she had not run back to Portugal after she finished her education, and it had helped her get through some very trying times. Dealing with Alex's addiction, an unexpected pregnancy (unexpected sex, she should say), Alex being tortured by death eaters--writing her book felt like she was doing something.

"I am very glad that you picked it up," Graciela said honestly, realizing even more how much this meant things had changed. "I have heard you work for the BBC? Will you be on the telly soon?"

It felt as if a tiny weight had been lifted off her shoulder by Graciela's mutual friendly reaction; she would have felt horribly guilty if the other woman had given her the cold shoulder (that she was guilty of giving Graciela for nearly seven years, sigh).

"I'm not a big history person, but I must confess that I wasn't too terribly educated about the details of the struggles of the Portuguese Muggleborn wizarding population," she said, unable to hide her admiration. She crossed her legs demurely and took a bite out of her pound cake. "And I do actually! I came out of Hogwarts specializing in only Muggle Studies, and thought, well, what can I do with that?" She gave a small, self-deprecating laugh. "I'm currently an assistant in production. I don't know about the telly - I think I'm way too shy for that!"

Derek did not want to be here. Derek had no desire to be here, and if it had just been Rachel trying to harass him into coming, he would have managed to be firm in his refusal. But once Edward, and Giada, started throwing in their two-cents, he had lost the battle.

Thus, Derek dragged himself to get ready, thought he looked passable enough, in the way that wouldn't scare many people off, and set off for the hall.

He kept his head down, smiling as cordially as he could manage, moving until he saw Giada fussing with the buffet table. He should say hi--the whole reason he had come had been for her. And it had been ages since they'd seen each other, last. A small, tired, but mostly genuine smile spread on his face as he grabbed her elbow, not expecting her to fling herself at him.

Surprised, he patted her on the back a bit awkwardly, the physical contact feeling almost alien. "Oy," he pulled back and smiled once more. "Look, I made it. I expect to be shown the time of my life."

She pulled back, arms still around Derek, a wide, wide smile on her face. It was so good to see him! Oh, she used to spend so much time talking to this boy, just chattering on and on, and okay, maybe fancying him for a bit too, but. Giada loved the fact that she had stayed in touch with Derek, and that he still talked to Rachel, and Edward, and Morty, and it was just---she was so glad to have friends and be a friend and.

"Gladly!" she cooed, still not removing herself from Derek's grasp. This probably would look terrible, seeing as she was engaged, and Derek's---well. If you didn't know Giada, you would think this was terrible, but it was not out of the blue to see her clinging to a friend as if her arms would fall off if she let go. Ask Rachel! Just ask Rachel, Giada loved to hug and cling, it was such a good feeling, and! And. She had the feeling that Derek needed a good hug.

"What would you like first! Food? Drink? Dance? I can provide each and every one of those things!"

Mary felt a little out of place, but only slightly. She'd been closer with the 78 Gryffindors to be honest, but she didn't mind spending time with other mates either. She was sure that Mackenzie and Sebastian would make an appearance at some point, but was content to wander for now.

The past few weeks had been a blur for her; she was either catching up on sleep or working on an article for the Prophet and with her stomach now in full pregnancy mode and the baby becoming more and more active, Mary always felt a bit distracted. And maybe that was a good thing. She wouldn't have to think about Gabriel, and she wouldn't have to wonder why he hadn't talked to her about his familial problems...if what Rebecca had told her was true. Making her way over to the buffet table, Mary grabbed herself a cup and spooned out some punch. God help her if someone had spiked it.
