Setting: Black Friday warfare shopping

Summary: As is tradition, Mack and Hunter go Black Friday shopping. Kia tags along to make sure they don't kill anyone.

It had been a fairly uneventful Thanksgiving so far, at least in terms of previous Dubinsky family functions. Perhaps it was the fact that Kate didn't bother being home for the holiday and it was just Kia and Mack this year. That brought the tension level down in the Dubinsky household ten fold, it was almost a joyous affair in Mackenzie's opinion. Hunter came over and the two of them had spent the day deep frying a turkey in the back yard and watching the Cowboys play while Kia took care of the rest of the meal. Mackenzie had a sneaking suspicion that Kia had actually done more to prepare the turkey than she let on, knowing that the two lanky blondes would cause chaos if left to their own devices. She couldn't figure out where Kia had stuck her hand into the process though and decided to just be happy they hadn't burned anything down yet.

Now they were standing outside of the local Plano Target, waiting for them to open for Black Friday. It had been a long time tradition of the two blondes to go shopping at midnight, and they had perfected the art over the years. Kia still wouldn't allow them to bring batons, but she did let them wear their combat boots this year. Mack was currently nibbling on a turkey sandwich that Kia had packed for them and drinking a Rockstar. They had shoved their way up to the front of the line, much to Kia's displeasure who was still grumbling angrily under her breath. Mack just grinned happily and nudged Hunter, her eyes darting to Kia quickly.

"She hasn't stopped muttering since we got here," Mackenzie mumbled through her bite of sandwich, swallowing it down with a big gulp of Rockstar. "You should say somethin' to her, I can't handle her bitching much longer." Mackenzie knew that for some reason, Hunter had a special gift of charming the Dubinsky women. She had always been able to talk them out of trouble in ways that Mack never could. She didn't know what it was that her sister and mother saw in her tall friend, but if they didn't get Kia in a better mood soon, she would be ruining all of their Black Friday strategies. Apparently brute force wasn't socially acceptable in the eyes of their sister.

Hunt had been more or less spending her Thanksgiving vacation trying not to think about Black Friday. Which she found odd, considering how much she adored the holiday, but there was so much more riding on it than any year before and it was starting to weigh down on her a little bit. Her battle plan since finding out Michi was pregnant had been spending as much money as freely as possible, until her parents got fed up. She already had a bit of a pile from tucking things away. They were good to go so far, and this was her biggest planned haul yet.

There were sales on everything, and that was exactly what Hunter was after. Everything. If she and Michi needed it, she was buying it. But especially the sales in the baby section, which she had already scoped out and planned for. Even earlier, she had been having a hard time focusing on watching the Cowboys play while she worked on scribbling out her own map and gameplan. Before leaving, she had given Kia and Mack both a copy of her map and instructions on what she needed help getting. Scrawled mostly in colored pencil, of course.

Armed with three turkey sandwiches and boots of her own, as well as three of her father's credit cards, the blonde was ready to go. She simply wished that she had dressed a bit warmer, her legs getting chilled in her shorts. She had been running over her route to the strollers, and eying a particularly eager old lady who looked like she was going to be a problem, when Mack distracted her. She was barely even disgusted as her friend munched and drank between talking to her, though some people did look their way. People had been giving them dirty looks for eating their sandwiches like slobs all night, but Hunter didn't really care. First of all, Kia had made each of their pile of sandwiches just how they each liked them, and second to that, turkey sandwiches were just the best. They tasted even better than turkey dinner because there was never any stress when you ate them. Sandwiches came after the stuffy boring meals and the pressure was off.

Just slightly baring her teeth at a kid staring at the two of them, once she was sure Kia wasn't watching her, she regarded her friend at last. "She ain't even a bitch," she informed Mack, before purposely raising her voice for the next bit so Kia would overhear them. "She's a real beautiful, confident, successful lady.. who was nice enough to take us shoppin' tonight."

She took just a moment to bat her eyelashes at Kia, before turning on Mack again with a flat expression that threatened to crack into a full-blown grin at any second. "Who hopefully won't mind if we toss in a few elbows," she sing-songed quietly, giving in and grinning like a fool.
