oshlie on the train home
WHO: Ollie Wendell and Ashleigh Barton
WHAT: Ollie & Ash on the train
WHERE: Hogwarts Express
WHEN: June 2006
RATING: G, probably.

It was probably an understatement to say that Ollie had been worried about Ashleigh a lot over the past month. He'd gotten her to eat and she even slept so long as he was able to hold her, but she still wasn't his normal Ashleigh. She was broken and she was stressed and he really didn't like it.

A big part of him wanted to punch that jackass of a Slytherin for doing this to her. The only thing stopping him was the thought that it would only upset her more. He focused his energies, instead, on taking care of her.

They'd met in the common room earlier, Ollie slipping an arm around her as they made their way to the leaving feat. There was no way around going, but he tried to keep her focus away from the Slytherin prat's table by whispering in her ear and holding her hand the whole time.

Now, they were getting settled on the train. Somehow, they'd managed a compartment to themselves and Ollie pulled her close against him as they sat down. His fingers threaded through her hair and he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"How are you feeling?" he questioned her softly. He was pretty sure he knew the answer, but the point was really to get her talking. He couldn't reassure her if she didn't talk about it.

The leaving feast had been horrible. Ollie had tried his best to keep her attention away from the Slytherin table, but he had failed miserably. Many times, Ashleigh had caught herself staring at her ex-boyfriend. The thought that she might never see him again had torn her apart inside, and she'd spent the bulk of the meal fighting tears. The constant hold Ollie had kept on her hand had been the only reason she hadn't rushed to Ed and told him everything.

Boarding the train had been a something of a bittersweet relief. She expected this to get a little easier when she wasn't forced to see her ex-boyfriend every day. At the same time, though, the thought of not seeing him daily made her sick to her stomach.

When the boy at her side asked how she was feeling, she gave him something of a look. "Nauseous," she answered.

Ashleigh wasn't sure if she was experiencing morning sickness or if it was something else entirely. Since she'd broken up with Ed, though, she'd been sick to her stomach every waking moment of the day.

"What about you?"

Ollie knew Ashleigh wasn't doing well. She was his best friend. It was unusual for him to not pick up on her moods.

"I have some crackers if you want," he offered when she admitted to feeling nauseated. Ollie could probably count on one hand the number of times he had willingly cracked a book in his life, but when he had learned of Ashleigh's condition, he'd done some research and found that sometimes crackers could help with the nausea, so he'd packed a handful for the train ride just in case.

"Me?" he flashed her a grin as he asked about him. "I'm brilliant." School was out, he really had no complaints other than a lingering desire to hunt down the Slytherin and deck him.

"C'mere," he murmured a moment later, slipping his arm around her and pulling her against his side.

Ashleigh shook her head when he offered to give her some crackers. As a general rule, crackers were supposed to help nausea, but she found herself thinking that they would only make matters worse. After all, she was fairly certain the sick feeling in her stomach had more to do with her ex-boyfriend than the baby she was carrying.

"Good," she answered with a forced smile. "I'm glad."

She didn't resist in the slightest when he slipped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. His embrace was the one thing capable of giving her comfort, and she melted into him.

"I love you, you know?"

Her eyes flooded with tears as she spoke, but she tried to hold them back as she told herself that everything was going to be alright.

Ollie couldn't help grinning when Ashleigh told him she loved him. He knew she didn't mean it the same way he did, but that really didn't matter. He liked hearing it all the same.

"I love you, too, you know?" he returned as he tugged her just a little bit closer. He leaned in and pressed his lips to her forehead and let his hand brush over her cheek.

"It's going to be all right, Ash," he promised her softly. "I promise, we'll get through this. I'm going to be by your side the whole way."

Ollie wasn't normally such a sap, but this was different. He didn't like seeing Ash so.. broken. He'd do anything to make it better.

Her eyes closed when his lips brushed over her forehead, and she lingered in the embrace as long as he would allow. When he was holding her like this, it was a little easier for her to ignore the stabbing pain in her chest.

"I know," she breathed.

As much as she hated to admit it, Ashleigh knew that Ollie was in love with her. She felt horribly guilty for taking advantage of that fact, but she knew that she couldn't make it through this without his help.

She nodded when he promised her that everything was going to be alright. It was hard for her to truly believe that, but she hoped he was right.

"What should we... what should we tell father? Do I tell him the truth or..."

Ashleigh knew what she was trying to ask, but she wasn't sure she should be asking it. Ollie was willing to stand by her through this. It was selfish to ask him to take the blame with her father, as well.

Had he mentioned that he hated seeing her suffering like this? Ollie loved Ashleigh more than anything and he would have given anything in the world to make things better for her.

Ollie's fingers threaded absently through her hair as they spoke. He loved playing with her hair and he hoped maybe the gesture would help her to feel better. Not to mention, he appreciated any excuse to touch her.

"What do you want to tell him?" he returned softly when she questioned him. Maybe it wasn't fair for him to take the blame for this, but that's what he was willing to do. As stated, there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He didn't love the idea of lying to her father, but if that's what Ashleigh needed, he would go along with it. He would stand by her side no matter what.

Ashleigh hummed softly when his fingers tangled in her hair. The gesture was simple but incredibly relaxing, and her eyes slipped closed.

"I don't know," she breathed. "Do you think he'll force me to tell ... him?"

As ridiculous as it might sound, she didn't like to say his name. The mere mention of his name caused her nausea to increase substantially, and that was the last thing she needed at the moment.

To be honest, she didn't want to lie to her father. She would if she had to, though.

"I just... I don't want him to... it's best if he never find out."

Some would say it was selfish for her to keep this from her ex-boyfriend, but she had his best interests at heart.

"I don't know," Ollie admitted. "What do you think?"

Ollie couldn't begin to second-guess how her father was going to react. He predicted he'd be pissed, of course, but there was really no telling how he'd react to the truth, to Ashleigh's desire to keep this from her ex.

Truthfully, Ollie wasn't sure how he felt about that, either. If he was in this position, he would want to know. It was Ashleigh's decision, though. The last thing he wanted to do was argue with her, so he merely nodded when she said it was best he never find out.

"Maybe we won't have to lie," he suggested. "Maybe if we just tell him you're pregnant, he'll assume..."

Ashleigh shook her head when he returned the question. There was no way for her to know how her father would react. She knew he was going to be disappointed, but she liked to think he would respect her wishes. Their relationship had been on the outs since she'd found out about Maible, though.

"That's probably our best bet," she agreed quietly. "I mean... we've always been close... it wouldn't be hard to assume..."

Rather than continuing to talk, she signed and let her words fade into silence. This was completely... fucked. It was rare for her to use that sort of language, but she couldn't think of another word that even came close to describing this situation. She was pregnant. She was... pregnant. That was... ugh.

"You know you can back out, right? You don't have to feel obligated. You don't have to do this."

"I want to do this, Ash," he reassured her immediately. There was no hesitation in his reassurance as he pulled her closer and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "You're not getting rid of me that easily, alright?"

There was a little bit of teasing in that last bit and he smiled as he brushed his hand over her cheek.

"I'm in this with you, baby, all the way," he continued. "If you need it to be my kid, it will be. I'll be the best damn daddy the world's ever seen and no one will ever know the difference, not from me."

It hardly seemed to matter that she was carrying another man's child. She was his. That made her baby his in a way, too. He was going to take care of them both, no matter what it took.

Relief washed over her features when he assured her that this was what he wanted. It wasn't too late for him to back out, but she was so incredibly grateful that he wasn't taking advantage of that fact. After all, she was certain she couldn't do this alone.

"Alright," she breathed.

A very slight smile moved over her features when he told her that he would be the best damn daddy in the world. She didn't doubt that for a second. It was reassuring to hear the words, though.

"Thanks, Ollie," she murmured for the hundredth time.

Rather than settling into his side, she shifted enough to brush her lips over his.

"Anytime, baby," Ollie reassured her. His arm tightened around her, but a heartbeat later she was shifting and brushing his lips over hers.

Ollie automatically returned the kiss. He knew it was selfish, but he enjoyed kissing Ashleigh so much. His hand continued to move over her cheek as he deepened the embrace slightly.

Ollie tugged gently as her lower lip as his hands shifted. A moment later, he was essentially pulling her into his lip. "Mmmm, you taste good," he murmured between kisses.

Maybe this wasn't exactly what they should be doing, but he honestly couldn't think of a better way to pass the time.

Ashleigh knew this was the last thing she needed to be doing, but that didn't seem to matter when he deepened the embrace. A soft hum of approval built in her chest when he pulled at her bottom lip, and her arms wound around his neck.

Truth be told, she was using him as a distraction, but she justified her behavior by telling herself that she needed this... that she would go insane if she didn't have a few moments of peace.

She didn't resist in the slightest when he pulled her into his lap. Instead, she deepened the embrace by pressing her tongue to his lips. "So good," she echoed without realizing it.

Indulging in this made her one of the most selfish people on the planet, but her worries were forgotten when their mouths fused together. Right now, she needed that more than anything else in the world.

Ollie didn't care if she was using him. He knew it was wrong, but he would take any excuse to be close to her like this. It was entirely selfish, but he was willing to take what he could get, even if a part of him knew she was thinking of someone else.

Ollie deepened the embrace as she voiced her approval. His lips parted and his tongue moved forward to brush against hers. He nearly groaned at her flavor.

"So good," he echoed. "You taste so good."

Maybe it made them both selfish, but at the moment Ollie didn't care. He had always been one to live in the moment and this was no exception to that.

Ashleigh could honestly say that she wasn't thinking of anyone or anything else. The only thing that was going through her mind, at the moment, was how incredibly good it felt to have his arms wrapped around her.

She hummed audibly when his mouth opened and his tongue brushed against her own. His flavor... guh... saying it was good would have been a gross understatement. It was amazing.

Her fingers slid up the back of his neck and tangled in his hair. They had a long ride ahead of them, but she hoped that they could spend it just like this. After all, this was the closest she'd come to experiencing true peace in months.

"Guh, Ollie..."

Ollie definitely didn't have any objections to spending the rest of the train ride just like this. They may have only been snogging, but it felt unbelievably good and he was more than happy to keep it up as long as she would allow.

"Mmm, Ash," he murmured against her lips. How was it possible that simple brush of fingers along his neck could feel so good. He groaned softly as her fingers tangled in his hair and he deepened the kiss slightly.

Ollie tugged playfully at her lower lip, a smile on his face as he continued nipping and sucking at the flesh. "Taste so good," he told her again. He couldn't get over how good she felt and tasted. He'd thought about doing this with her many times, but actually kissing Ashleigh was so much better than even his best fantasies.

A heat pooled into the pit of her stomach when he tugged at her bottom lip. That was... guh. Her fingers tightened in the hair at the nape of his neck, and she groaned against his lips. If only he knew what that did to her.

"Guh..."

Ashleigh broke the kiss to trail her lips over his chin and along the line of his jaw. He tasted good... so good. She'd never thought... but... guh.

"Feels so good, Ollie..."

She pressed her body as close to his as she could manage while her mouth closed around his earlobe. A soft hum vibrated in the back of her throat as she nipped and sucked at the tender flesh.

Had she know that it could be this good, she would've kissed him ages ago. At least, that's what she told herself when she was so lost in the embrace that she couldn't think clearly.

Ollie groaned softly as his lips pulled from his to move over his chin and jaw. As much as he hated having her lips away from his, that felt incredibly good.

"Guh, Ash.. guh."

He wanted her. It took every ounce of his willpower not to push for more than what they were doing. As it was, his hands tightened on her hips as he let go of another soft groan.

That was.. it was really unfair how good that felt. How on earth was he supposed to focus on being here for her? How on earth was he supposed to behave himself at all when she was sucking at his earlobe that way.

"Guh, Ash," he groaned again as his hands started to wander over her curves.

Deep down, Ashleigh knew that they shouldn't take this any further. Like everything else, though, that was easily ignored when he was kissing and touching her. She moaned her approval into his ear as she nipped almost playfully at the piece of flesh between her teeth.

"Oh, my... guh..."

She wanted him... she would probably regret it if she allowed herself to give into that desire, but that was easily the furthest thought from her mind.

"Want y..."

Her words faded when she heard the compartment door open then close. Afraid of getting caught and punished, she rushed to get into her own seat. By the time she was there, though, the intruder had left.

"Merlin... I thought that was..."

Once she was in the process of saying it aloud, she felt silly for being afraid of getting caught. They were finished with school. What was the worst that could happen? She laughed softly at her silliness before leaning into him.

"Maybe we should... could I have those crackers, now?"

Now that she wasn't lost in his embrace, the nausea was back. She knew that a simple kiss could cure that, but with the way they'd been behaving moments before, she wondered if that was safe. Maybe they needed a moment or two to cool off.

"Crackers and... more of that kissing thing you were doing?"

The last thing Ollie would want was to do something Ashleigh would end up regretting, but he wasn't exactly thinking with the proper head at the moment. It felt unbelievably good to do this with her and that was all he could think about right now.

As such, he groaned loudly in protest when the compartment door opened and Ashleigh abruptly pulled away from him. She didn't have to finish her sentence. He was pretty sure he knew who she'd though had interrupted them.

"Yeah, we should.. yeah, hang on, I'll get them."

He didn't know why he felt suddenly awkward, but he did his best to shove it off as he retrieved the crackers he'd packed for her and when he settled himself back onto the seat, he nodded. "Whatever you want, love," he promised her as his arm slipped around her again.

Her breathing was still a little labored when he sunk into the seat at her side, but she looked up at him with a large smile. For the first time in days, the expression on her face was genuine; she wasn't forcing or faking it. The nausea had returned, but her mind was still reeling from the kiss they'd shared.

"Thanks, Ollie," she answered as he handed her the crackers and slipped his arm around her.

If Ollie was feeling awkward, Ashleigh didn't notice. She cuddled into his side and rested her head on his shoulder as soon as he was settled. It felt good to be close to him, and she truly meant to follow through with the suggestion that they snog a little more once they'd eaten some crackers
