Characters: Tatum & Ella [& Rath if he decides to wake up and catch up!]
Setting: Wednesday morning, November 23rd; Donnelly home in Portage Lake, Maine.
Rating: SFW.
Summary: In-law time, need I say more? Jenny and Sera are annoyingly sappy sometimes and make their sisters feel like third wheels, so it's time to escape.

Tatum awoke quite early for her, just before nine o'clock, even though it was the first day of vacation and also exceptionally cold out. It was snowing again and the temperature was in the negatives, so she made sure to throw an extra shirt on while she was getting dressed. Jacking up the thermostat on her way by and down the stairs, the redhead ducked into the kitchen and busied herself with pouring a bowl of cereal. Starting tomorrow, both her mother and father would officially begin their vacation days and then it was all over. Today was her one day of freedom, and she needed to use it to enjoy herself without her parents peering and criticizing over her shoulder.

Eating bad and doing drugs sounded like a good start.

With her bowl of sugary cereal in hand and rolling supplies stuffed into the pockets of her shirt, she flopped down into the recliner in the corner, pulling her legs up. She set the cereal aside, she didn't mind it being soggy, and got to work rolling up some joints. She used the nearest book for a flat surface, working quickly and then scouring the whole surface free of crumbs and resin with her wand when she finished. Done and ready to eat, she relaxed back into the chair, suddenly feeling rude for not even greeting anyone in the living room before she rolled up.

For the first time since arriving, she took a moment to survey the room in front of her and who else was awake. She had almost forgotten they had sort of guests. If you could call Jenny and Ella guests at this point. Sera had asked if the twins could stay over for a night the night before, the five of them all Flooing to Maine in the afternoon classes were over for holidays, and Madeline had been more than happy to have Jenny and Ella over. While generally a good hostess, Sera wasn't really doing the best job at the moment. Tatum wasn't sure how long the three of them had been up, but Sera and Jenny were both under a blanket at one end of the couch, pretty fast asleep. Occupying the opposite end of the couch with Maurey, Ella seemed to be the only one awake.

"I-Is that Maury?" Tatum asked through a mouthful, leaning forward to get a better look at what the blonde was watching on tv, before giving Ella's dog an apologetic smile as his ears perked up at hearing his name. "Not y-you, different Maury," she informed him. Returning her eyes to Ella, she gave her a weak smile as well. "Sorry about, uhm Sera. She's not really being like, a super entertaining friend, I guess. You look as b-bored as me," she went on, slipping the joints she had rolled behind her ears before going for more soggy cereal.

Ella was always an early riser when she was in a unfamiliar house and had decamped from her bed to the sofa whilst it had still been dark outside. Her and Maurey had been watching TV since, snuggled up together. Jenny and Sera hadn't been company for very long before they were both snoozing and a dull pain in Ella's stomach told her that she kind of wished her and Hendrix could be under a blanket somewhere too. Still, at least she had her pup.

She had been lost in her thoughts when Tatum came in and watched her curiously until she noticed her. Smiling warmly she scratched behind Maurey's ears and sighed. "They're the same round my house" Ella said, shaking her head. "I just let them get on with it. It's better than them kissing at least."

"Ugh gross, don't e-even mention the kissing," Tatum groaned, making a face as she finished with the last of her cereal and ditched the empty bowl on an end table. "I don't know if t-they even understand the concept of c-coming up for air," she joked. Just like Tatum liked to take advantage of a parent free day, she knew Sera liked to do the same. It was much harder for her and Jenny to snuggle up and have moments when her parents were home, but she still preferred not to watch. They always had way too much PDA going on when there was no adult supervision.

"Did she even a-ask if you were hungry?" Tatum asked, looking back to Ella again. On the television, a man was jumping all over the stage in joy after finding out he was not the father, and it made the redhead crack a slightly wider smile. "I was gonna like, go for a walk if you wanna ditch these two lazy f-fucks. It's kinda freezing out though," she warned.

Ella rattled a bag of candy at Tatum. "This is my breakfast, can't start the day without candy" she said brightly. Looking over at her sister and Sera all snuggled, it was kind of cute. It would probably be worse to wake them to go walk in the freezing cold than ditch them here.

Ella pulled on her rain boots and busied herself with Maurey, dressing him in one of his many outfits. They may have only been staying a night but the temptation to dress Maurey up for the cold had been too great and her whole bag was full of doggy clothes. Fixing his scarf she clipped his leash on and grinned. "A walk sounds good. I love the snow!" Granted, Ella loved most kinds of weather, but it wasn't often you got to see snow.

"Candy? For breakfast? Now t-that's a lady after my own heart," she informed Ella, grinning. She had spent a few extra minutes of her own making sure her cereal had been full of extra marshmallows. Who wanted a healthy breakfast? Especially on vacation.

Getting up from her chair, the redhead went to the porch to get her own coat and gloves, pulling them on and watching Ella dress Maurey with some amusement. He was so well behaved about it, Tatum never failed to be jealous that Teagan didn't like dressing up. Cats just didn't get down like that.

"Don't t-throw any snowballs at me, I can't d-defend myself. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn," she joked, opening the door and holding it for Ella. She shivered at the cold wind that rolled inside. "Oh and don't tell Sera where we go. I have to go c-check on something while we're like, outside."

"Aw man, now I really wanna pelt you!" Ella admitted, her laugh turning into teeth chattering as the wind hit her. "But I wont. I'm not mean enough to do that to my like, family. Jenny gets really cross if I do it to her" she explained, having to tug Maurey out of the warmth. As soon as he got out she knew he'd be okay, that first step was always a killer. Especially if you didn't even have shoes on.

"Is it like, a secret?" Ella asked excitedly, kicking snow into the air.

"Sera too," Tatum assured her, smiling weakly and slamming the door behind them. She doubled back to make sure it was definitely shut and locked, before catching up to Ella and Maurey. "S-She doesn't mind throwing them at me though.."

She paused for a moment as they reached the edge of her yard, just about to head into the woods. "Uhm, well. It sort of is. She knows about it just.. not the extent," the redhead went on, knowing she was being a bit vague. "Whatever, I trust you," she finally added, giving Ella a nudge with her elbow before heading into the trees, motioning for them to follow.

The snow was deeper than her sneakers, and her toes already felt numb. "It's cool t-though. I think. It's uh, like a secret hide-out. Sort of."

Ella walked after Tatum, already a little warmer. It was a lot of effort to walk in the snow, especially with heavy boots on. "Like a fort?" she asked curiously, sliding a little on the frozen ground.

"Well yeah," Tatum agreed slowly, ducking under a few branches weighed down with snow. "B-But better. I put uhm, like charms and protections and stuff around it. So it's top secret," she explained, pausing for a second as they came to a split in the path.

It was a bit harder to find their way under the blanket of white, but she could see her own tracks from yesterday just barely still there. Taking that path, the redhead lifted another branch out of their way. "It's uh, sort of for gardening. Sort of," she added, smiling at Ella. "Uh, nothing like the club though."

Ella batted at the branches as she walked under them, sending cold snow falling in clumps. "I love secrets!" she whispered, unsure why she was now whispering. It was still kind of early and snow always made everything sound quieter.

"I'm super excited" she admitted with a little giggle.

"W-Well, it's.. like, not that exciting. It's w-warmer though a little bit?" she offered, taking a quick glance behind them. She didn't really think anyone would follow them, it was definitely early, but it didn't hurt to check. Once she was assured that they were alone, she led Ella into the woods a little further before hesitating at a small clearing.

Removing her wand from her jacket pocket, she gave it a little wave and seemingly out of nowhere, a rather rickety looking shed appeared in the clearing. It's roof was covered in snow, and it didn't look like there was much room to do anything but stand in it, but it was there.

"Better than i-it looks," the redhead said finally, moving toward it and taking a joint from behind her ear while she walked. No one else really knew it was there, except for her and Rath, and Frankie once upon a time. But as she had said earlier, she could trust Ella. She probably wouldn't rat her out to Sera or Jenny.

Approaching the shed, she pushed it open carefully and made her way inside, holding the door for Ella again. "I uhm, moved them indoors. For winter. I've b-been using some spells for, l-like fake sunlight and stuff," she murmured, motioning to the plants inside of the shed, which was indeed bigger inside than it looked outside. Still, some of the weed plants along the far wall were tall enough to touch the ceiling.
