Into Crime Alley
The Green Arrow tread lightly in Gotham the night after news of the murder of the Artist hit the streets. He was a wanted criminal, but he couldn't let that top him from doing patrols around Gotham. He just had to be more sneaky about it. Keith was extremely sneaky in making his way to the meeting place with Robert. He was finally going to get to talk about things with a brother he never knew he had. Things with the Artist didn't seem so important anymore, now that he had a distraction keeping him going.

Merlyn, for his part, also takes great care not to be seen on his patrols in Gotham. The last thing he needed was getting shot down being mistaken as Green Arrow before he could get to Keith. He had to get him out of the city within the next twenty-four hours or things were going to get a lot worse for both of them.

He's waiting when Keith arrives, but remains in the shadows long enough to confirm that Green Arrow is alone and hasn't been followed.

"Arrow. I'm here." he says, his voice modulator turned on once again.

"I guess you saw the news reports by now. Has your family or anyone tried to contact you?" Merlyn asks.

	Keith turned to Robert, surprised. He wasn't used to that voice changer. "I...yeah," Keith replied. "My whole family has tried calling me. My girlfriend tries nonstop. I just... I haven't been able to answer any of them. I don't know how. Merlyn, I don't know what to do anymore. Maybe I did the wrong thing?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"No, stop that right now. You did /not/ do the wrong thing. Frank Wells was animal, a rabid dog and you know what needs to be done with rabid animals. You put them /down/." Merlyn says, moving close to Keith.

"For now, it's probably best if you don't talk to any of them. The first thing they'll do is ask you what happened. You'll tell them the truth and they'll all weigh in with what you /should/ have done. But they weren't here and they don't know. They didn't hear the things he said to you. I did. I know why you killed him and I know you did what was right and necessary." Merlyn says.

"From this point forward, you've got to accept what you did and move on. The Artist is not a man you should feel guilty about. He chose to kill innocent women and revel in it. But the press wants to crucify you for doing what no one else had the balls to do. But other people are calling you exactly what you are, Arrow. You're a hero." he tells him, taking a chance and placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Until the heat dies down, though, we need to get you out of town, maybe even out of the country. I'm sure you've got some access to some money. Why don't you head to London, or France or Dubai and have some fun? Take that girlfriend of yours with you and just stay out of costume for awhile. I'll handle things on this end and do what I can to make the cops rethink Green Arrow as a suspect. Once they announce that Green Arrow isn't being investigated anymore, you can head on home and get back to work." Robert says, considering a few ways to get the Police Commissioner to drop the case.

Holt had to have some files on these people full of dirty little secrets. Merlyn figures he can get them to call of the manhunt for Keith if they think they're about to get exposed. Gotham's known for dirty cops; it wouldn't be hard to expose a few of them...or create a few dirty ones to rattle the cages.

"Better yet, here's what you do. You go pack your things, head to the airport. When you get to wherever you're going, call your girlfriend and make her swear not to talk to anyone, and then call me. I'll make sure no one comes after you. How does that sound?" Robert asks.

Don't feel guilty? Keith tried to tackle that before, but he couldn't help it. He'd been raised with certain values and ideals in mind. And in one night, he dropped them all for a moment of self-satisfaction; for one moment of revenge. If he didn't feel guilty about killing somebody, he felt guilty about betraying everything he was raised to believe.

But he wanted to trust what Robert was saying. It made him feel better about what he did. He knew somebody thought he did the right thing, and it was comfortable.

"Ok," he replied. "I can do that. But what if people come looking for me?"

This was the best kind of payback. After the Green Arrow and Huntress messed with his bank robbery, not the Green Arrow was a criminal to be brought up. Spyder Spyder itched with anticipation for capturing the little snot. He sent a dozen human-sized spiders to collect his prize.

They silently worked their way around the pairing, until they were given away by one of them crushing something under a mechanical spider leg. Alert to the fact that his surprise might have been ruined, Spyder Spyder ordered his spiders to fire half-sized spears at Merlyn and Green Arrow.

	Merlyn hears the faint noise, draws his bow and a single arrow from the left side of his quiver and fires in one motion. The flare arrow slices through one spear, then catches in the wall near a spider. The arrow then emits a bright light, much like a flare. "Looks like we've got company, bro. You up for a fight?" 	Keith is quick to the punch, too. But he uses an entirely different kind of arrow. The capsule breaks off, and a buzzsaw arrow cuts through a spear. "And Mom said a buzzsaw arrow was self-indulgent," Keith replied. It was his way of saying that he was game for a fight. The rest of the half-size spears missed, probably due to their quick and unscheduled launch. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Half of the spiders set off another round of their half-sized spears. The other half torched those spears with flamethrowers, giving them an extra punch. The flaming spears barreled at the pair of unlikely teammates. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Merlyn dodges to his left, turning the movement into a shoulder-roll and coming back to his feet in a crouch. The moment he's upright, he fires another arrow in the direction that the flaming spears came from. Draw, nock and aim, fire. Robert keeps his eyes peeled, expecting attack from another angle. 	Keith mirrors Robert's dodging movement, but chooses a different sort of target. He fired a trick arrow above the direction where the flaming spears came from. The capsule broke off, and a dot started blinking as the arrow soared through the air. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Merlyn's arrow inserted into the mandible of one of the mechanical spiders and hit a sorely placed, important device that usually kept it functioning properly. But the arrow caused the spider to malfunction.

Green Arrow's arrow exploded above another spider, totaling it and mildly damaging two other spiders.

Spyder Spyder was not pleased with what was happening. The two mildly damaged spiders were held back, while the rest of the fully functioning spiders got closer. Ten human-sized spiders leaped into the air in an attempt to land on Merlyn and Green Arrow.

Merlyn fires another arrow at one of the leaping spiders, then rolls backward, away from the oncoming horde to take momentary refuge behind an air conditioning unit.

"Green Arrow, this dance floor is getting a little crowded! What say we move this party to a different location? East of here two blocks, straight through the skylight. You take off first and I'll cover you." Merlyn calls out.

"Run!" Merlyn yells, standing up to fire a pair of taser arrows at two more of the spiders.

What kind of B-List "bad guy" used spiders in his crimes anyway? That question would plague Robert for the rest of the night.

Keith fired a few arrows at the leaping spiders before he ducked out and over to shelter.

"Got it!" he shouted back to Robert. He ran from the fight, firing off a taser arrow and a spider before breaking out into a full sprint in the opposite direction.

His ass was out of sight before long, and Keith hoped to see Robert soon. No, not hoped. He was sure his brother could manage.

The three taser arrows shocked the three spider targets. Admittedly, Spyder Spyder hadn't ever built his spiders with the Arrow family in mind. Taser arrows were unexpected, and the spiders' circuitry was overloaded. They shut down, leaving five spiders and an angry Spyder Spyder.

He directed his attention to Merlyn with the five front line spiders, and sent the two hanging in the back to where the Green Arrow was headed.

The five spiders by Merlyn each unleashed their flamethrowers on the air conditioning unit he was hiding behind.

Merlyn quickly finds himself getting hot under the collar as the spiders unleash their fire upon his hiding spot. He didn't know how well they could move /and/ fire, but Robert knows that he's got to take this chance before they can get to him.

He counts down from three in his head. At the count of one, he turns and breaks into a run, leaping at the edge of the roof to get to the next building. He stumbles, turns the move into an awkward shoulder-roll, then gets up and keeps running toward their destination.

	It takes a moment for the Spyder Spyder to properly have his spiders react. The fire stops coming out, and the spiders start following Merlyn after he recovers from the stumble. The two that were heading for the Green Arrow went offline, courtesy of a high powered sonic scream. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Merlyn keeps up the pace, glad now for all the hell Mother and Slade put him through when he was young. He does his best to catch up to Keith as quickly as he can so that they can plan their next move.

Merlyn's got an idea and two arrows that are perfect for the job, but Keith's got to be as good as Robert hopes he is.

He keeps running toward the warehouse, readying himself to move.

Merlyn has to take a moment to catch his breath when he gets to Keith at the skylight of the warehouse.

"Okay, tonight, we combine a couple of goals. Drop down through this skylight, but don't linger. Turn left ninety degrees and head for the door. Once we're outside, we're going to have a little fun." Robert says, handing Keith an arrow.

"We just need to make sure we trap the rest of the spiders in the building. Got it?" he asks.

Robert wants to time this just right, because he wants the spiders to follow them into the warehouse.

"Get ready..." he says, watching the spiders get ever closer. As soon as they were on the roof with the Arrows, Merlyn looks to Green Arrow.

"Now!" he yells, and jumps backward through the glass of the skylight. The building is only a single story, but it's still a long drop.

Merlyn lands and drops into a roll to spread out the impact of the fall. When he can see that Keith is with him, he nods in the direction of the door.

"Let's move!" he says, pulling a small flare from one of his pockets and throwing it in the direction of the door. The little flare springs to life and illuminates the path to the door.

Merlyn waits for Keith to start running, then follows, covering his back.

	As much as Keith despises following orders, he's still pretty good at it. When his brother told him to jump, he jumped. His landing as eased out with an immediate roll. As soon as he got up to his feet, his eyes met with Robert's. He simply nodded, and Keith moved for the door. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Robert follows Keith, doing his best to keep a mental note of where the spiders are.

As soon as the Arrows are outside, Robert slams to the door to warehouse and runs for the opposite side of the street.

"Green Arrow, that arrow I gave you is a C-4 arrow. Snap the top and fire into the warehouse!" Merlyn says, pulling his own arrow and snapping the top, just as he described.

He'll fire his arrow directly at the highest warehouse window, hoping to take out the rest of the spiders all at once in the resulting explosion.

"And the Arrow brothers win." Merlyn whispers, a smile coming to his face as he watches the warehouse go up in flames.

"You've got some good moves, Arrow. You learned well from those that taught you." he says, offering his brother a genuine compliment.

"No time to rest on our laurels, though. We need to get you out of town tonight or someone is going to get lucky and take us both out by sun-up.

Get out of your gear and do what we talked about earlier. I'll be along soon to help out." he says.
