Spring of '76 - Danielle and Donovan
Donovan was beginning to think that Danielle would never cave in to the suggestion of leaving her schoolwork behind to come to Hogsmeade with most of the 7th year kids who wanted some time away from the castle. Hogwarts was awesome, there was no getting around that, but they needed a change of scenery every now and again. The last little push he tried to make to convince her to meet him in front of The Hogs Head, was leaving her a folded note in her textbook that said these words:
‘It’s not the same, without you.’
He hoped that would be enough, but he hadn’t heard word from her before they had to board the carriages. He sat with the usual crew – that crew consisting of Gabriel Corner, Rafe Kirke, and Jonas Ackerly. They were practically an enigma at Hogwarts, something that shouldn’t be but was; a group of friends, each from a different house, and of different bloodlines. By all means, Donovan probably should have avoided them like the plague, but he was friends with Gabriel first, a high status pureblood like himself, and met the other two through him.
He had always been closest with the Gryffindor…which was another oddity for Slytherins.
Hopping off the carriage, he walked with the guys towards the bar where he was supposed to meet Danni. The weather was getting warmer, so they stood around outside, making idle chatter while Donovan waited, to see if his girlfriend of almost 4 years would come for one of their last trips to Hogsmeade. He had his back against the wall, facing the walkway that lead to the bar, giving him a good view of who was coming.
He was in the middle of talking to Rafe when he caught sight of a blonde haired figure standing just behind him. His vision traveled over to the beautiful blonde, making eye contact before he looked away from her to acknowledge whatever Rafe had been going on about.
“Yeah. Absolutely.”
He could hear Jonas snicker, seeing how his reply made it clear that he wasn’t really listening, but it was Gabriel who finally looked around, saw Danielle, and turned back to the other three to usher them inside. Donovan gave his friend an appreciative smirk before he too entered the bar, but not before giving Danielle a wave. Once it was just the two of them, Donovan gave her all his attention.
“You came.”
He eased away from the wall using his elbows, taking slow steps towards her, though he left some room for her to come to him.
“I was beginning to think your books had gotten the best of your attention.”
