SURPRISE HISTORY PARTY THREAD!
How had he let Derek convince him that this was a good idea?

Vinny stared aimlessly across the literal sea of people and crowds covering the vast land of his backyard. Sure, sure, he had a ton of land because he lived on a farm, but that didn't mean throwing an End of School Year bash was a brilliant idea! Just because his parents were going to be out of town for the next week, did not mean he should take advantage of it! Oh, hell, at least they weren't getting in the house (where he'd all but locked Davy inside of).

It was a pretty good party so far, though. There was a barbecue, girls in bikinis, torch lights lining the pool area, a volleyball net, girls in bikinis, lots of loud music, girls in bikinis...

"HEY there is no need to be littering!" Vinny said with a loud huff, using his wand to send the paper cup shooting back into the perpertrator's face. Merlin, oh Merlin. Derek better stay over tonight to help him clean up, tomorrow. There was no way he'd be able to clean this mess up all by himself. As much fun as he was planning to have, he still needed to be somewhat in control of this bash!

"Who the hell invited the sixth years!" he shouted, eying a couple of students who were definitely not part of the Hogwarts class of 1977.

For fuck's sake, if he was named Head Boy this year it was going to be hell.

[OOC:] :) Random 2:30 in the morning idea! My last weekend as a free woman!! This thread is open to 77ers and 78ers (or at least, those cool enough to hear about the party and crash it ;D) This means ALL characters alive at that point can post and have fun! Try to keep with whatever canon we've decided in-game, of course XD

and to clear it up: it's like the first weekend after school ends, June of 1976. 77ers just finished their sixth year, 78ers just finished their fifth (ooh OWLs!) This thread is set BEFORE the start of Valesco wtf XDD

Seventh years! They were seventh years! Well, almost, but they practically were! Only...two more months! Giada bounced around the edge of the pool in excitement, having no desire to go back in after a rowdy game of tag in the water (that could tire a person out in two minutes!). It was so much fun to see everyone, even if they had just been in school last week! Everyone was totally different outside of the castle, and it was fun to see them all interact.

Sigh, she would throw a party every day if she got to be witness to all the fun chaos going on about her!

Giada wrapped her towel around her waist, making a beeline for the long table of food. She was always hungry, it felt like, and the kind of food she'd seen set up was definitely not something her mother would approve of. Which made it that much more inviting!

How happy was Derek, now that term had ended? What a silly question! Other people might have been mournful, realizing that they had one year left of schooling before being tossed out into the real world, or that their most difficult exams were approaching, but not Derek! He'd been tapped for the Auror program, he was well on his way to achieving excellent NEWTs after a first year of good, hard studying, he didn't have to worry about exams or studies for two months, and they were now the reigning kings of the Hogwarts hierarchy…

What wasn't there to be happy about, he wondered.

Which was why there was a need for celebration! As he told Vinny. Life wasn't going to be this good ever again, and it was time they capitalized on their fabulous looks, youth, and intelligence.

Honestly, Derek wasn't even sure if there was alcohol of any kind at the party, but a few bottles of butterbeer was all the excuse he needed to hop around the party singing loud pop music from his mother's record collection as he slid and danced and generally weaved with a kind of pseudo-drunken grace through the crowds of people, often stopping to serenade a girl or two, or a particularly nice looking boy.

"Oooh, baby!," he crooned, sliding over to the blonde in the towel, making no apologies of suddenly wrapping his arms around her from behind as he leaned closer to her ear, "My sweet baby!"

Giada let out a squeal at being grabbed, but immediately recognized the voice, and the arms to be that of Derek Dobbs. Oh, Derek. Giada was not the best of people to flirt with, as she had no idea when said flirting was actually occurring and it wasn't just the boy being nice, but Derek Dobbs seemed to always be flirting with her, which made figuring out how to act around the boy much easier.

"Heyy, c'mere lover boy!" Giada let out, instantly recognizing the song. During school, she'd made it a point to act completely ignorant on all things muggle because of the strange looks some of her friends might give her, but the truth was that Giada felt like she belonged in the muggle world, rather than the wizarding, most days. Not that she didn't love being able to use magic, but she simply connected with more muggle things than she ever did magical!

Plus, her record collection took up nearly all of her two closets, at home!

She twisted to look at Derek, grinning broadly as she leaned back into him. "You're having fun!"

Still singing, now jumping about the lyrics, he spun her around, arm snaked around her waist bringing her a touch closer as he started his own little version of a two-step, "When you leave me, sweet kisses I will miss!"

Dipping her dramatically, Derek paused and gave Giada a cheeky wink. "I was just thinking to myself, what reason is there to not have lots of fun? None that I can see! And as the unofficial co-host, it is my job to spread lighthearted revelry. Which is exactly what I intend on doing."

But, still holding her dipped, arms easily supporting her, a look of mock confusion and concerned dawned on his face as he asked, "And you, Miss Vance? I hope you're having the time of your life."

"Woohh!" she let out, and an exhilarated smile formed easily. Giada breathed heavily as she watched Derek speak, her eyes jumping all over Derek's face. He honestly looked like he could rule the world, with how happy he seemed. Just a big ray of Hufflepuff sunshine, this boy was, and Giada tightened her grip around his neck as her hair hung to the ground.

"Right now, I am!" Giada said happily, "Except I think all my blood's rushing to my head!"

She tugged closer to him, trying to straighten, even though she did enjoy the position she was in, right now. Giada flushed (and not just from all the blood going to her brain) and her grin widened even more.

"No fun," he told her with a grin, sweeping her back up onto her feet. "Everything's much more exciting from upside-down."

Derek, instead, settled for letting his arms rest casually where they were around her waist, and moved to the imaginary tune in his head, just as he'd been the whole day. Until he'd danced his way to the happy blonde, he couldn't be bothered to stop for conversation, food (well, not stop for food…), and merely danced and sang his way through the crowd, often obnoxiously. Ushering Giada along with his somewhat fancy footwork, he hummed the lyrics slightly, cracking a bigger smile when the spoken interplay between the singers came into his head. Remembering what Giada had said moments earlier, though, gave him pause and he spoke while extending her mid-twirl. "Hey, one minute. How do you know this song?"

Giada flushed deeply as she twirled back into Derek's arms. It wasn't a strange sight, for her to be dancing to no music. Giada always had music in her head, it made her happy! Lyrics and melodies spoke to her, even if she didn't have that great of a voice. She could always find a song that would perfectly explain any situation she was in.

She could like...make a soundtrack for her life, with all the music she loved. Ooh, that was a good idea.

"Oh, erm," she stuttered. Giada didn't know whether or not she should be talking about this, because the second one person knew about her secret obsession, then another would, and another, and it would somehow get back to her parents and they would lock her in her room for the rest of her life! "That's a secret, Derek."

She waggled her eyebrows, "I can't just tell you my secret!"

"It is rather manly, isn't it?" James said, enjoying the giggles coursing out of Joy Diserafino's mouth as she examined the Gryffindor tattoo on his shoulder. Giggles from her very pretty mouth. Joy had a lot of very pretty things, which were being shown off in her very pretty bathing suit. It was no wonder James had felt himself be pulled toward the blonde, because hell, who else was there to gawk at that would be so pleased with the actual gawking?

James' eyes snapped away from Joy, however, at a flash of red hair in the crowd. He put a hand on Joy's arm, "Hold on one second, love, I've got a bone to pick with a certain stuck up prefect."

Pecking a kiss on Joy's cheek, James rushed through the crowd of--slick and wet people, gah--and slid in front of the previously noted redhead, stopping her in her tracks. James grinned widely.

"Evans, I'm surprised to see you here! There aren't any books or points to be taken away!"

Lily knew who the messy black-haired boy was that had slid into her view before he had even gotten there. Of course it was Potter, and of course he'd come up on her the second she was no longer warily eying him across the pool, thinking maybe he'd be distracted enough with the dimwitted blonde 7th year to leave her alone for one full night.

She didn't know why she'd come, knowing he'd be there. Somewhere between Ben and her friends all promising that they'd keep him back she had decided this was a good idea when clearly it was not because the second they all walked off to do other things, who else had decided to make his greetings but the one and only (thank Merlin) James Randall Potter. Lily glanced out of the corner of her eye over to the volleyball court where her boyfriend was proving rather embarrassingly that being good at one sport did not mean being good at all, and realized with dismay that he was not coming to save her from this any time soon.

He was so getting dumped.

Crossing her arms over her chest in that signature move of impatience--one that James, of all people, knew very well by now--she regarded the boy in front of her with distaste. "Do you require something, Potter?"

"Do you require something, Potter?" James mimicked, his face contorting in disgust at her proper tone. Who really talked like that? All the time? At first he thought it was just the prefect badge talking, but nope! Lily Evans was just as snobby outside of school as she was in it. And being this way made it so much fun to tease and terrorize her whenever possible.

James ran a hand through his hair, enjoying how its dampness made it stick on end even more than usual. That just meant that he wouldn't look like a complete disaster like most of these guys around here. Not that he cared if Evans thought he looked like a disaster, because if she didn't like him for him, then what did he want her for?

It was a question he'd been trying to answer for years.

He stretched, making sure to accentuate his very bare, water-droplet glistening chest, "Nothing at all, I just wanted to see how your first week of holiday's been! As any good friend would like to inquire."

Lily stuck her nose up further at his mockery of her tone, which... really just went to prove a point, but what did it matter? He was so frustrating! Why he got to her as effectively as he did was a question she had been attempting to answer for just as long as he'd been trying to figure out why she didn't like him, but all either of them really knew was that Potter and Evans were two names that did not mix.

She watched him show off and scoffed a bit under her breath, managing somehow to look away despite that---well, she was a girl, wasn't she? Lily had no issue admitting that he was good-looking, just as long as it wasn't to him. Anyway, it wasn't too terribly difficult to distract herself by casting her gaze for a moment back over to Ben, who was---yes, he was much more attractive than Potter, and to boot wasn't a complete tosser.

See, if Potter really liked her as much as he said he did, one would think he'd observe the kind of boys she went for and try to act like less of a jackass every once in a while, but no. And that's was really just a slice of what got her about this whole thing. Clearly he DIDN'T actually like her, he just INSISTED upon saying he did and meanwhile causing her torment day in and day out because it was AMUSING to him.

"We're not friends," Lily bit at him, anger having just risen several levels by her thoughts alone. "Gather up your delusions and take them to someone else."

James' mouth dropped in exaggerated horror, his hand going to his chest because he was offended. "Lily! I cherish our friendship, and you throw around such hurtful words!"

His expression quickly dropped from pained to completely unamused and unfazed. Wah, wah, wah. James let out an exasperated breath, and looking around the crowd. He was getting a bit bored of this, as she was not reacting to him as he wished. Sure, he enjoyed her insults and how her face grew red when she slung them at him, but when there was so much going on around him, it was hard to concentrate when Lily wasn't giving him the light of day.

"Who'd you come with? Liz and Marlie were here ages ago." And Alice was skittering around, and Sirius was probably shagging something in the bushes, and Remus had probably gone home already, and Peter...was of course at the buffet.

Lily had thought she'd been good, lasting this long into a conversation without rolling her eyes at something James said. See, normally it happened before he even got within a meter of her, but this had been---what, thirty seconds? It had to be a new record.

If she wasn't half sure that he'd pull her in with him, Lily would have just pushed him into the pool and walked off at this point.

... Actually, she was still strongly considering the option.

"No, I came with Ben," she replied impatiently, glancing over his shoulder surreptitiously, hoping to eye an escape route somewhere around here. So distracted was she with trying to make a getaway that she didn't realize that she had just divulged some information that her boyfriend would be... not so pleased about. "That's what you do with your significant other, you accompany each other to parties, Potter."

Sebastian!

Hmm. Mackenzie was most definitely enjoying herself.

And not because she was drunk, or feeling crazy or anything of that sort which would make her feel different from usual! Merlin, no, no. But because the whole atmosphere of this place was infecting. Everyone was so happy, she hadn't seen a group as large as this one so happy all year, and it made her happy to see so many other people enjoying themselves without having to worry about work or waking up early for this or sending an important letter for that. It was only appropriate that their entire year was here, or else it just wouldn't be the same.

Actually, speaking about that, Mackenzie still wasn't quite sure how she had convinced her mother into letting her come to this party (leaving out the fact that it was a party and not a small intimate pureblood gathering like she had implied helped), but completely glad it had all worked out. Sixth year had been wonderful, so what better way to end it with a good celebration?

Now if only she could find who she was looking for....

"Sebastian!" Mackenzie spoke warmly to him, a full close-mouthed (she didn't particularly like the way she looked when she smiled with her teeth) smile appearing on her face. They hadn't seen each other on the train ride home, and, to be frank, she had wanted to. But one thing had led to another, and it certainly wasn't like they had many mutual friends to share a compartment with, so. So, it was only appropriate to remedy this issue now. Definitely having nothing to do with the fact that the thought of having to go the whole summer without seeing him made her extremely anxious.

He felt like a water-logged dog. Sebastian had always appreciated his role in the Gryffindor boys' dorm--punching bag, and was ever so glad that they were taking it outside of the castle. He could not tell you how many times he'd been dunked in Gudgeon's pool, or pushed in, or held under the water against his will---in just the short hour or so he'd been here!

But it was all a ton of fun!

He flopped away from the water to breathe, and summoned his towel over from across the pool. It was bloody brilliant, being able to use magic outside of Hogwarts, and he hadn't hesitated in apparating to the party the second his parents had given him permission. He was like a new man! Sure he would still get beat up by his roommates, but it was because they cared! Well, besides Alex, he might just do it to be mean because he was a mean person.

Anyway! Sebastian felt like he could do anything, and when he spotted Mackenzie looking at him and coming towards him, he felt more invigorated than ever.

"Hey!" he exclaimed, taking his towel to dry his hair and hoping it wasn't a gigantic rats nest of frizz when he was done, "I missed you on the train! My brothers basically chucked me in the car after I got off so I couldn't say good-bye."

Her fingers twitched into something of a small wave, though careful to keep a relative distance. Water. It was summer, yes, but she had never particularly enjoyed going to the beach, and other things associated with the sun/water/sand mixture. And when it was night, well, it was cold to go swimming at night, and she didn't really enjoy the chilly feeling of wetness over her entire body.

Plus her dress! She liked this dress. But the more Mackenzie thought about it, the more the fact that this was a part pool party didn't bother her; she had just realized that Sebastian was shirtless, and the fact that his hair was a mess couldn't bother her less. In fact it was cute. More than cute. A quick image of her forcefully raking her hands down his bare chest as she suddenly pushed herself onto him overwhelmed her all of the sudden. Whoa. Very inappropriate.

It took Mackenzie a few moments to stop all the other images from continuously flowing, and she tried her best to make it look like she was thinking up of a response for him. "I know," she smiled, her body feeling so hot her cheeks must be flushed a deep red. "My brother too, he wanted to leave quickly. I was putting him out of his way to come pick me up since my parents hate going to King's Cross."

She thought for a moment, then continued. "But I looked for you!"

Sebastian grinned, planting his hands on his hips as he was still a bit out of breath. Damn, if he'd realized Mackenzie would be here (for some reason, he hadn't been able to imagine her at a party like this), he definitely would've tried to look nicer than the mess he was now! Especially with her looking all...pretty. So pretty.

"You look great!" he said, putting a hand out and nearly gesturing at her entire outfit. Sebastian gulped, hoping his tone was was that of a friendly...friend, person. Which he definitely was, to Mackenzie! She was one of his best friends, actually! So of course he would speak with a friendly tone with her! Why would you think he'd have any sort of silent, buried deep, but-not-so-deep feelings other than friendship for the girl?

His roommates said he looked like he'd just bathed in a cauldron of amortentia after his rounds with Mackenzie, it was so painfully obvious that he fancied her beyond any sense of the word.

"So--" he nearly squeaked, feeling his face blush as he realized this was the most relaxed atmosphere he'd ever been in with Mackenzie, "What are--do you have any plans for the summer?"

"Thank you," she smiled, bowing her head toward him slightly. Mackenzie brought her eyes back up to his quickly, still feeling very warm. In a pleasant, but bothered way, if that was possible. Her fingers knotted within each other, effectively fighting off the urge to nervously play with her necklace.

Sebastian thought she looked great. Not alright, or good, or doing well, but great! The fact that people said phrases like that to each other all the time didn't fully sink in until a few seconds later, and Mackenzie scolded herself for jumping to conclusions so quickly. She really needed to control herself. How would people see her as eloquent and sophisticated when she just let her mind go off on the tiniest of things! Control and poise, if anything she hoped she could exemplify it now, at the most important of times!

Important because it was important that Sebastian didn't think of her as this floozy girl that showed up to parties to do inappropriate things! She valued his opinion! As... a... friend.

Oh, she was horrible at convincing herself that these feelings she felt about him were just purely due to intrigue because he was a Gryffindor and muggleborn, and not anything else. Taking a deep breath, Mackenzie sought to respond.

"Oh, no, but I am sure my mother does. She always plans things without telling me," Mackenzie waved her hand in a passing way, not wanting to make a big deal about it. By now, both Christopher and her had gotten use to this fact. There was just no hope controlling Lisette Loftus sometimes. "What about you?"

Sebastian nodded enthusiastically. He couldn't imagine what the life of a high society pureblood witch like Mackenzie could be like. It had to be bloody brilliant! Parties all the time, getting dressed up like you were the King of England or something like that, having people wait on you all the time...or, he supposed it was a house-elf, in the wizarding world. Sebastian hadn't experienced much of his new world outside of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade (his trips to Diagon were always quick) so his vivid imagination created the the scenes for him.

"I'm probably doing a lot of housework, my brother's moving out and my parents are turning his room into a study...oy, well," he blurted, not thinking too much about the words about to spill from his mouth. When did he ever think before he spoke? "If your mum leaves you some free time, and I don't die from dirt inhalation, we should definitely hang out!"

His smile softened as Sebastian found himself a bit glad that he didn't think before he put out the invitation. If he had thought about it, he would have chickened out for sure, because he basically just invited Mackenzie out, on a date. Well...unless she assumed they'd be with other people, like they usually were, outside of prefect rounds. What if they met somewhere, and she brought that wench, Matilda?

"We could get ice cream, or--I could take you to the cinema! Have you ever been?" he said, to ensure to her what his heart had really been asking for. "It's really a fun time, we could get dinner and stuff before it, if you like.."

Of course her mind automatically went to thinking Sebastian meant a "date." Was this a date? Was he asking her out? Mackenzie wouldn't know, or have anything to reference from, she had never been on a proper one before, with such little experience and a strange dating history. The "dates" she went on with Orpheus included never leaving the castle, and with Rabastan... that just didn't count. So! She was going to take it as one for now! At least until she was able to refer to Matilda for confirmation!

Oh. Or maybe not Matilda. Mackenzie's stomach sank a little at the thought of not being able to tell her best friend this news... or anyone really, for that matter. The effect would definitely be lost, not to mention create some other undesirable reactions.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Mackenzie looked at Sebastian as she thought. Her parents would definitely not approve, which meant that she would have to lie to them, as well as all her friends (though that would be easier, seeing as it was the summer and they didn't seen each other every day), and Christopher was always prying... But the more Mackenzie looked at Sebastian, the more she knew she really wanted to go on this date with him.

Like, perhaps had been dreaming about this moment for a while now. And besides, it was only one date, what harm could it do?

"I would love to," Mackenzie responded, her hands breaking from each other to show her excitement. "I've never been to the cinema." Or know what it was, for that matter. "And I love ice cream!" She would for him, anyway.

1976 had been a good year for Caradoc. Definitely went and made the most of it through doing as little work as possible for the high grades he achieved, winning the Quidditch cup for the second time, hooked up with as many girls as possible, and just in general recking havoc among the people around him. Oh, and all while still being an awe-inspiring person, but he achieved that every day.

So it was the summer, the end of an old year and the beginning of a new reign. The reign of being top dog seventh years, and Caradoc couldn't have imagined himself in any other better place than where he was right now. Well, not physically, because they were on a bloody farm for fuck's sake, but metaphorically, he was basically the shit. It couldn't get much better than this.

Taking a long drink from his personal homemade mix (choosing to move out last year with Juliet had been one of them best decisions of his life, even if it did mean he had to literally live with Juliet), Caradoc knocked his slightly head to the beat music in the background. Despite every girl and their mother (Matilda) insisting for him to take his sunglasses off, he kept them firmly planted over his eyes. But that certainly did not stop him from seeing people's faces, oh no.

"Dorkles!" Oh this was too great. His hand flew out to stop the Gryffindor girl from going any farther than she stepped. "So pleased to see you here." Their passive-aggressive feud had been going on for some time now, so it was only acceptable for them to start again here. A proper way to start the new year.

Agatha had been a bit of a ring leader when it came to crashing the seventh year's party, at least for the Ravenclaws. While she too loved to read and study and all that, they needed a way to relax after the O.W.L.s had nearly killed all of them. So she'd personally banged on all of their doors yesterday, telling them to meet her at Gudgeon's, and that would be that.

Not that Agatha could find any of her Ravenclaw year mates, after all her hard work. She sighed, figuring they'd bailed on her (Ophelia and Heidi, though, Agatha had faith in. The boys...not so much). What was she supposed to do now? The older Ravenclaw girls were in their own worlds, and she didn't particularly feel like dealing with the Gryffindors and...

"Prewett!" she exclaimed, thinking she'd found Gideon. At least he'd had enough guts to show! Agatha grabbed him by the arm and turned him around, but---"Oh. You're the other one."

Oh my god, this was great! Not only was she at this older year party, but she had actually been invited! Unlike all these other people in her year that were here! Nope, nope, all of them had crashed, and if it were up to Gleny, she would have brought a security guard to kick them all out right now, but she hadn't and Vinny was too nice to do that so!

Forgetting the fact that it was only Vinny, and she would assume he would invite her regardless of what kind of party it was because they had been friends since forever, but! It still definitely counted social wise. Like, a lot. It was basically like a 5th year going to a 7th year party; you couldn't get much better than that.

Gleny readjusted her dress quickly, enjoying how it went well with the theme. Of course she had a bathing suit on under, but that was for later! Socializing and getting her name out was for now. Unless the best socializing was in the pool, then that was a different story.

Brier wasn't a huge party-goer, but Agatha had basically given him no choice but to come and really, Brier didn't want to be at home right now. He'd left his brother with a large pile of books and his sister was currently annoying his parents, it would be good to get away from that.

He didn't know Vinny all that well, but everyone else seemed to be having a good time so Brier was going to force himself to do so. At least he hadn't brought a book like Gideon. Brier picked up a drink and moved over to the edge of the pool and looked in. He glanced over at the appearance of a shadow next to him and shielded his eyes in the bright sun.

"Hi," Brier said shyly, "Are you having a good time?"

"Oh definitely." Xenophilius said grinning looking over at Brier. He watched him glance over his swim attire. Xeno really didn't understand why so many people were looking at him that way. The flippers, snorkel and arm floaties were all proper attire. It wasn't his fault that they were ill prepared and uninformed.

"Its to keep the joopie bugs away. They are terrified of bright colors and its best to have 'em all over." he said matter of factually. "I have extras if you need some. Joopie bug infestations are not fun."

Of course she was here! She was friends with the people that she needed to be in order to be invited. When she caught Vinny sending the paper cup into someone else's face, she arched a brow and walked over to him, leaning in to drop her chin onto his shoulder with a smirk.

"You know," she started, "you should really relax. Unless, of course, your parents aren't really out of town and they've just created an elaborate ruse to trick you into misbehaving so they can bring down the hammer of justice on you at the beginning of the summer." She paused, thoughtful.

"They're not Slytherins, are they? Because if they are, I wouldn't put it past them and you should definitely check the bushes. In fact, I'll help!" She was definitely not just trying to get Vinny alone and away from all of the competition other girls.

"I don't see any Slytherins, I mean!" Vinny through a hand up, taking upon some sort of lecturing tone, "Not that only Slytherins could cause trouble! Plenty of Hufflepuff troublemakers running about, too!"

Ugh, he knew that his 'interview' process for the Head Boy was over because...they weren't in school anymore, but Vinny felt like he needed to be the personification of the title until he actually got the badge. And if he didn't...well, there was going to be a lot of moping, but at least he wouldn't be as high strung as he had been these past few months.

He figured he had a pretty good chance. His only competition, really, was Goldstein, in Vinny's opinion. Belby was kind of...the lesser of all evils, when it came to the Slytherins, and that was because he couldn't control the other three...which didn't make sense as to why he was made a prefect, but it was probably for the greater good that Dearborn wasn't a prefect.

And! And Dodderidge was a nice bloke, but Vinny didn't know too much about his grades, and there were a bunch of Dodderidges so who knew----yes, Goldstein was the one he was worried about, because he was so nice he may as well have been a Hufflepuff. Vinny had to out-nice the Gryffindor as often as possible.

Sigh.

"I hope my spells on the alcohol are actually repelling the underaged kids," he mumbled, scratching the back of his head.

"Well, I can tell you that they probably brought in their own if they really wanted to drink," she stated matter-of-factly, "And that there are other things that one can use to alter one's senses when one so desires." She smirked -- okay, so maybe she'd never really be as goody-goody as the rest of the other Hufflepuffs, but she liked to think that she wasn't any less nice because she enjoyed the occasional puff of illicit substance.

"So you should probably just relax, because it's a bit out of your hands." She was hoping that if Vinny did end up Head Boy next year he'd take a similar stance on things - there was no way he could stop all the mischief from going on, but he could focus on say ... stopping the other houses from doing anything too terrible. Most of the Hufflepuff pranks were harmless and revolved around food or getting people wet, after all.
