So...Nick was probably going to be mad.

But she did not know what to do! The man, the ministry official, he had knocked on the door and she'd answered it--fine, that was what happened when someone came to your house. But then he started asking for Nicholas, and when she told him he was not home, he did not believe her. So---so now he was in their living room, and---he was just standing there, right now, but Madeline did not know if he was doing some sort of magic or if he was...if he was...she did not know. All she knew was that she had taken up post in the doorway that led down to the nursery, where the babini were still sleeping. Thankfully.

"I have told you, he is not home," Madeleine said with an exhausted sigh, pacing in front of the hallway. The official scoffed and stood with his hands behind his back. She did not know if Nick had done something wrong or was in trouble or--he had not said there would be someone coming and---"I will tell him you came, I will take down a message--"

"That will not be necessary," he snapped, turning toward her with a fierce glare. Madeline's shoulders squared and she crossed her arms over her chest.

"No! You need to--go, I am not comfortable with this when my husband is not home--"

"Well, that's too bloody bad, muggle!"

"What is--muggle?"

Nick let out a huffing breath through his nose and looking to his wife. "Well, if we don't prove it ..." Ah, Merlin. His employer had told him that he was just fine, but that was when he was a pureblood and they didn't have much money to spare at his level of things, "...then I'll be out of a job."

Which was damned frustrating. He stepped over to where Madeleine was pacing, though, and slipped a hand to her shoulder. "But that's not going to happen, Del. I mean ... we've got records for at least ten generations that documents we're pureblooded." Yes, he was still going to be glossing over the details for now.

Of course, their children wouldn't be considered pureblooded. That opened a whole can of worms for him, but he was sure the Wizarding World would gain back their sanity before they had to worry about things changing for the kids.

He would lose his---Madeleine's eyes widened, ready to start panicking. She could not go back to school, not yet! Not with three bambini, no, and---and she did not trust the sitters, she had heard such stories and---and maybe Adamina, but---but---

She bit her tongue as Nick tried to reassure her. What he was saying did make sense, but she knew her husband better than she knew anyone else, and it was easy to see that there was some trepidation in his words. Nick would know, yes? He would know that there were papers to prove this?

"You should talk to Adamina," she said, instead of just agreeing or accept that they'll be okay. In her gut she did not think that this would be settled as Nicholas was making it out to be, but she had to support him through it all.

He could just tell that she didn't believe him 100%, but he supposed that was fair. It wasn't like things had historically gone in his favor when it came to their family, but...

"Yes," He agreed readily enough, already shifting so that he could grab a quill from his little shelf of wizarding things and pen out a letter on some parchment. They didn't exactly have their own owl at the moment, but he'd be able to send it off in the morning when he headed in to work so there wouldn't be much of a delay on it. Of course there were papers, but they were probably in the Hooke Mansion. Hopefully his mother and father hadn't had the foresight to burn the documentation, but he highly doubted they'd desecrate their property in such a way just for someone they'd disowned.

"I'll send this out tomorrow. Just ... don't be letting anyone else in here, if you can help it." Merlin, maybe he'd better put up some stronger wards.
