Who: Jones Dennis and Nora Thompson
What: bumping into each other
Where:Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
When: Friday afternoon, after she's finished up with work

It had been an extremely long week, and Nora was glad that it was over. She loved her students to bits, but since November she'd been incapable of keeping up with their energy. Between vomiting and bloating and all of the other delightful things that come with pregnancy, Nora was at her wit's end. But the end of the week was here, she'd made it and now it was time to celebrate. And hey, she'd earned it; she was nearly 14 weeks pregnant which meant she was practically out of her first trimester.

She sighed as she looked over the menu, her hands fiddling with the hem of her shirt; she was secretly wondering if her stomach was noticeable to everyone else or if she was just being paranoid. And if she could actually focus for a second, she would be able to pick what she wanted to have, but it all looked good and she was so indecisive and--oh Merlin, did they really have apple pie ice cream? And...ooh, every flavor. Maybe she would get lucky and get stuck with beef jerky or something. That sounded really good right now.

It only took a few minutes after ordering for her number to be called, and in all of her excitement to eat her freshly scooped goodness she turned around right into someone, upsetting her ice cream onto her shirt and making her nearly lose her balance. "Bleeding hell," she swore to herself as she looked at the ice cream now on the floor, before sighing. "I'm really sorry. I hope I didn't get any on you," she said, finally looking up at the bloke standing in front of her.

If Jones hadn't been so focused on the fact that he had ice cream all over the front of his sweatshirt, he might have taken notice to the odd sound that came out of his mouth right before. It sounded sort of like "HMUAH!", and only realized that he had made it a few seconds after he started to scoop the frozen icecream out of his pocket with his finger, since it had dripped in there. He furrowed his brows as he thought back on his reaction, but quickly shoved HMUAH! out of his thoughts as he looked up at the blonde from beneath his hat. "No, it's...well, yeah, but it's fine." He gave her a smirk and tried to wipe more away, watching a drop spatter onto the floor.

He hadn't even planned to stay for that long, and...well, maybe HMUAH did justice to how he was feeling. He wasn't mad, but getting covered in ice cream was not something anybody particularly enjoyed. He had just walked in to get a milkshake and then get out of there before anyone recognized him, but that plan might be harder to accomplished now that people were staring at the man and woman woman who were covered in ice cream. Sure, she had gotten the worse end of the stick, since the ice cream was facing her, but because she had pressed against him when she had collided with him, some of it got on him, too. It wasn't bad though. "Do you need...help? Or...napkins?" He felt awkward asking as he pointed to the large splatter on her shirt. It was easy enough to get most of it out with a flick of a wand, but for a perfect stranger to just go and do that was...strange.

She looked down and let out a slow sigh, "No, it's fine I'll just..." she waved her hand in the air, somehow assuming that he would get that she meant a cleaning charm. Wait...was she allowed to do that? She hadn't gotten to the charms chapter in What to Expect When You're Expecting a Wizard...what if her little girl ended up with some weird skin disease, all because she cleaned the ice cream off her shirt with a quick little charm. She thought about it for about thirty seconds before realizing that he was probably going to find it odd that she hadn't said anything or done anything yet, swallowed her fear, and with a flick of her wand, the ice cream splotch was gone.

"Do you need to get...well, I'm sure you can handle getting it off of your..." she nervously ran her fingers through her hair. Now she had to wait in line again for more ice cream. "I'm really really sorry," she said, her cheeks a bright red as she looked up at the bloke. He looked familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Oh, she was right about him wondering what the hell she was doing. He just stood there, slipping his hands into his pockets as he casually glanced around, waiting for something to happen. Looking over his shoulder as he heard some whispers, he cleared his throat as he shifted, staring down at his sneakers as he waited, hoping that he wouldn't be recognized. Not that he really ever cared when he was or...well, no one ever knew that he cared, when he did, but he really just wanted to get out of there.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I can...yeah." Once she started apologizing, he started shaking his head. "No, really, it's perfectly fine." He couldn't help but smirk again as she started to blush, noticing how she kept glancing at the line that was growing by the second. "Uh..." he wiped his hand over his shirt again, scrunching his nose as he realized how sticky it was. He tried wiping it off with the other hand and then groaned. "Well, that was ineffective..." He reached over and grabbed a napkin, wiping at his hands. "Did you want anything? I mean, obviously you did before you...well, spilt it on your shirt, but for some reason I feel obligated to buy you a new ice cream, even though you sort of, you know...ran into me."

"Oh, well, if you need it I can just...take care of that for you?" she said, her left hand going for her wand. She felt anxious for some reason...perhaps that was all of the people staring at them. Ooooi. She was still trying to figure out who he was; it was at the tip of her tongue and she just couldn't put her finger on it.

She pouted as she looked up at the menu again. "Well, maybe. You don't have to buy it or anything, though. I can just...you know, pay for it." She smoothed her free hand over her stomach, not even realizing that it stopped briefly just around her belly button. That menu was taunting her, however. And bugger it all, she had no idea what she wanted anymore.

"So, do you run into a lot of people here?" she asked curiously, glancing up at him as she tried to clear her thoughts (which were somewhere between 'I like cheese' and 'I want cheese ice cream, I wonder if they have that').

"Seriously, it's fine. This isn't even mine." He gestured down to the sweatshirt. "And even if it was, it's not one of my favorites. But it's not, so really don't worry about it." He took another glance around and noticed everyone was still staring. He once again shifted, but turned back to Nora as she replied about him getting her a new one. "Well, you know, when someone offers to get you new ice cream it usually involves...paying for it. I don't know, maybe I'm just making stuff up."

His question made him smirk, shaking his head. "No, not usually...and, once again I point out that you ran into me." He grinned and tilted his head to the side a bit. "So, what's your name? I feel I have a right to know, since you just ruined my least favorite sweatshirt that isn't even mine."

Once she replied, his brows furrowed together. Nora. Nora, that sounded...

Holy crap. He couldn't help but give a light laugh as he shook his head. "I'm Jones. Jones Dennis. It's really a pleasure to finally meet you, Nora." He held out his hand for her to shake, now that it wasn't sticky and covered with icecream.

She raised an eyebrow at him. "Oh, no...I meant that you didn't have to buy me ice cream. I'll just--I can get it myself, yeah?" Oh, the triple chocolate chip brownie colossal chocolate ice cream was tempting. She was getting it, most definitely.

She squinted up at him and then a look of realization washed over her face. She smiled kindly. "Thought I recognized you," she murmured, now shaking her head. "And you're lucky you caught the right Nora. Dropping your name like that with anyone else might've gotten you pounced." She reached for his hand and shook it firmly. She was trying to think of something clever to say, but nothing was coming up.

"It's always strange, meeting people from the journals, don't you think?" she said awkwardly, scratching the back of her head as she stared at the slowly shortening line ahead of them

"Oh. Well...either way, don't worry about it."

It was nice to see the girl smile for once, since she had been sort of antsy and fidgety since she had ruined his shirt. "Most people do...which isn't as great as some people might imagine it to be. And you're right about me getting the right person. But Nora's not exactly a common name, so I took my chances." He shook her hand, dropping his own back down to his side once she had let go. It really wasn't hard to forget someone like Nora, since she had basically told him that she really didn't even give a damn what happened to his team during play-offs. Or, well, maybe she phrased it a bit better than that, but it was basically the same message. But, Jones didn't really care. Well...of course he cared but he didn't take it to heart, like other players on his team might have. It was one fan! And besides, he was sure that she cared at least a LITTLE bit, even if it was caring whether they lost or not to the team she actually did care about.

"Well, I have a feeling I would have bumped into you sooner or later...only I would have tried to be less litteral about it. I'm actually really good friends with Griff Kirkam." He tried to think back on what Greer had told him. Of course, Griff had mentioned Nora to him, but because the two Quidditch players hardly had time to see eachother he hadn't gotten the chance to meet the girl yet. It was a little but funny, that Nora had told off Jones, who could be the one Puddlemere player her boyfriend ( or, well, as far as he knew... ) was good friends with. It was ironic, actually. A bit funny in his opinion. Which could explain why he couldn't stop giving her a smirk, which was boardering on a smile.

She'd played Quidditch at Hogwarts for five years and led up her team for two of those; she had received an offer--from the magpies or the bats or someone else (she couldn't really remember)--but she didn't want the game to be her life. She'd kept track of things while growing up; having your life in the spotlight for everyone to analyze wasn't her cup of tea. So she had sympathy for most players when it came to the aftermath of their career choice. She didn't read gossip magazines, she didn't beg for autographs when she saw someone familiar out in Diagon. Besides, if she were really antsy about that sort of thing, she could probably ask Griff to take care of it for her. The only team she made an exception to her fan girl clause for was the Cannons, and that was easily justified by the fact that not many were so taken with them.

"I have to admit, I hoped that the next time we spoke would be much more exciting for me. Not that ice cream all over clothing isn't exciting," she replied with a smile, "But you crushed my dreams, my friend. Well...your team did, rather. I was hoping for a Cannons upset, you see." There was something enthralling about the underdog to Nora.

"Are you?" she asked curiously as they moved forward in the line. She wondered how close they were; obviously not as close as he was to that man. Just a Quidditch thing or perhaps they had known each other in school? Were they so close that Griff had told him about their situation, with the baby and everything? "I don't think you've come up in conversation yet. But it's interesting to know nonetheless." She gave him a sympathetic smile. "I read about the uh...rumor...in the Prophet. I wouldn't fancy having to constantly deal with the public in that sort of sense."

"I don't see how it could get any more exciting than this." He gave her a grin and then slipped his hands into the pockets of his sweatshirt, forgetting there was icecream inside of them before it was too late. He groaned, and grabbed for another napkin, still listening to her. Freezing in place as she mentioned how he had crushed her dreams, he rose his brows, only to have his surprised reaction turned into a smile once again. "Ah, well...I can't exactly apologize for us being better than the Cannons..." He gave her a wink to let her know that he was kind of kidding, and that he wasn't being a cocky git.

"I'm not surprised." He said in remark to him not being mentioned in conversation. They were great friends, yeah, but when you don't see someone for months, they aren't always on the front of your mind.

The next turn in conversation made Jones fidget a little bit. "Yeah, about that...it's just complicated, is all. The United's been my home for just about 8 years. I'm not really allowed to talk about it, but it's...complicated." He smirked and looked over to the line. "So, did you still want that icecream?" H

Nora laughed a little. "Yeah, that's what they all say. I still have hope that they'll make a come around in the next few years. Until then, I suppose I have some sort of obligation to become a pseudo Catapults fan." The thought of it wasn't too pleasing, but at the same time she felt content with being known as Griffith Kirkham's girl. It hurt that Griff didn't exactly fancy her but...beggars can't be choosers, right?

"Friends are always good to have, though," she replied with a polite smile. "Since you two are close and all, you'll probably be quite involved in our b--" she stopped, eyes widening as she caught herself. Merlin's beard. She had firmly decided that she would only tell close friends and family; if Griff wanted to tell Jones, that was his deal. And here she was, so caught up in a conversation that she almost blabbed about everything to him. In public no less. Quick, quick...uhm, topic change, distract him.

"Ice cream sounds amazing. So, if you had to describe yourself in terms of an ice cream flavor, what would you be?" she asked, trying not to make her voice sound too rushed or nervous.
