"And this is where we get no work done," Noah said in a dry tone, pushing open the door to the employee's lounge. It still had some streamers and birthday banners that the girls had hung up this morning. He held the door open for Elliot to enter and took the time to exam the room and why he was bothering to show it to her. Well--he knew the answer to that. Even though Elliot had told him that she liked astronomy and all this stuff, he still felt like showing off the exhibits would be rather boring, especially when she bothered to come down to wish him a happy birthday in person.

That was nice. It was weird to have people go out of his way for him, like the party (he was sure Lyssandra was the one that had reminded everyone else, but it was still a nice gesture) and Elliot just now, but, hell. It had been a long, weird year, after all. Yeah...it was almost a year since Noël had eloped with Macon.

...nngh, don't bring up the stinging memories on your birthday, Boot.

Noah let out a breath and crossed over to where the cake (shaped and decorated like Uranus--Martin would have appreciated this one greatly) sat on a long covered table. "Do you want a piece? I promise it's edible."

Yes, it was true. Elliot Bishop had finally mustered up the nerve to visit Noah Boot at the astrology tower. And on his birthday, no less. She had to admit that she had been nervous at first. Showing up uninvited might not go over so well. Afterall, they hadn't exactly met under the best of circumstances, so what if he thought she was a total loser and had only been nice to her to be polite? What if he wasn't even there?

But these were all risks that she was apparently willing to take, and thank goodness she had. BEcause he had ended up being there and he hadn't slammed the door in her face! Good signs, as far as she was concerned. And so she had followed him as he guided her through the back halls towards the employee's lounge, making awe-struck 'ooh and ahh' noises in jest as she walked in ahead of him. She looked around, nodding appreciatively at all the decorations, her eyes narrowing in amused suspicious. "Is it supposed to look like..."

Oh. Duh. AStronomer humor, but of course. She giggled but nodded anyway, shrugging in a 'why not' sort of way. "Sure. I'd love a piece of Uranus." And she must have realized that that kind of humor might not be appropriate to say around boys who hardly knew you and might potentially think you were crazy to begin with, because she turned almost the color of her hair. "Oh, and I got you something." Twisting, she reached down into the patchwork back slung across her shoulder, drawing from it a box of wizard-made sparklers. "I found them in Diagon Alley. I would have gotten you Red White and Blue ones, but... eh, what can you do. Here ya go."

Noah smiled tightly; they'd gotten Donovan with that joke about---ten times this morning (Deidra was still shouting planet-related innuendos down from the balcony...they were a group of nerds, it wasn't hard). He pulled the knife and managed to cut out a rather swirly frosted piece and carefully--so carefully that he was wincing in suspense--Noah managed to flip it on to a plate without making it crumble.

"And here we go," he said with an elaborate stabbing of a fork into the middle of the cake. Noah handed her the plate at the same time she pulled out the sparklers. He grinned, eyebrows going high in amusement. Huh.

Noah took a hold of the sparklers and examined them for a moment before waving them at Elliot in a teasing manner, "I'll have to wait until we are out from under the sprinklers, I think, but--thanks."

"Wow... that looked like a pretty intense moment. Are you alright? Didja break a sweat?" She was referring of course to his immensely concentrated slicing of the cake, accepting the piece with a sort of shy, goofy little grin tilting her mouth. She obliged him and rolled large green orbs up towards the ceiling, puckering her lips wincingly to one side of her face.

"Yikes. You just might be right. Oh well, set them off whenever you want. I was gonna get you hotdogs to go with those, but I thought that might be a little awkward for both parties involved."

Taking hold of the plastic fork so majestically jutting from the center of her cake, she began to use the flat side to methodically scoop the pale icing off and shovel it into her mouth. "Are you sure I'm not keeping you? I don't want to like... keep you here, if you have someplace else to be." It was obvious by the way her teeth worried the corner of her lip as she awaited his response that she certainly hoped he didn't have anything better to do.

Noah smirked with a shake of his head as he cut his own piece of cake, turning back around to face Elliot. "Nah, it's all right---we don't really get busy until...ever."

He shrugged, but definitely wasn't bothered by the statement. Noah relished in the quiet time that the planetarium delivered. He had loads of time to work on his findings (or what he liked to call findings--they usually led to dead ends), and his lectures were scheduled around his schedule since the astronomers of the wizarding world were few and far between. And because Donovan was a horrible public speaker.

But, no, the quiet of the cavernous planetarium was more than soothing, and if someone came in for a tour, that would be...well, they didn't really have tours, one of them just usually was down front and started talking to the guests, so he supposed you could consider that.

"I could give you an actual tour if you want, only takes a few minutes," he gulped his cake, "Maybe put on a star show if--you have time."
