[Is that codename for sex? - Emmeline]
Sure, Bertram Aubrey knew that he should probably be doing something responsible like trying to get a job or getting in touch with his (whatever Franzy was, he didn't even know), but the fact was that since classes had finished up, he'd been taking the time to play with his daughter. They were currently sitting in the middle of one of the busier parks in London on a rather embarassingly pink blanket. Amissa was clumsily holding a marker in one hand and settled very contently by her father's face, making a concentrated attempt at scribbling all over it.

No, he didn't find anything particularly wrong with this scene -- or he wouldn't until someone spotted him with Amissa and he remembered that he wasn't supposed to have a kid, let alone enjoy playing with one.

"MAX---Max you stop that right now!"

Emmeline frowned pitifully as her dog bounded after a squirrel. She knew how he worked by now; he found a squirrel, he chased the squirrel up a tree, and then sat at the base of the tree until she called him back to put him on the leash (or, until she yanked his leash because sometimes he wrenched it right out of her hands). Max was sitting scarily still at the tree, nose lifted nearly up to the sky as he watched the squirrel.

Well, whatever. That meant she could get some reading done. If her dog wanted to be an expert squirrel hunter, then let him have his fun. Emmeline shifted her bag to her other shoulder to make her way to a shady bench when she heard the familiar voice of Bertram Aubrey--or maybe not so familiar, since he wasn't slinging any pick-up lines.

"Helloooo," Emmeline cooed as she came close enough, dropping her bag quickly to the ground to sit on the pink blanket. This was eerily similar to a chance meeting with Bertram she'd had last summer, but now that she was friends with the boy and knew that this wasn't his cousin, well--things settled easier.

"You are doing a fantastic job, he looks so much better already," she said to Amissa as if she could understand.

"I'm really glad you're not spouting baby talk like my mum's been doing all bloody winter," he remarked as he sat up, bringing Amissa to do the same so that she could continue to colour on his face while he spoke to Emmeline. He was remarkably good at pretending as if everything was normal while she drew.

"And you know, how are you supposed to keep a leash on your boyfriend if you can't keep one on your dog?" He smirked at the woman and then scrubbed a hand through his hair. Okay, this was awkward -- was he supposed to still be able to flirt, or was Franzy going to get ll ... weird if she found out about it? Things like this were just too damned hard now that he had some sort of ... relation.

She gently pushed Amissa's hand up to make sure that Bertram's drawn on mustache was full and beautiful, eyebrows quirking up at his question.

"I don't need to put Caradoc on a leash," she said slowly, not taking her eyes off of the marker. Really. Emmeline did hope that Bertram knew some good cleaning spells, because this was going to be rather hard to scrub off. And she did hope that he had more faith in her than to have a boyfriend she'd have to keep in line.

...even if Caradoc did manage to get out of hand much more often than any other human being on the planet, but she was rather good at getting him to stop. And if she failed, Juliet was merely a floo call away.

"And my dog is a very smart dog and can handle himself. There---right there, get his nose, can you say nose?"

Bertram rolled his eyes. "Your very smart dog is staring at the ass-end of a squirrel waiting for it to come out of the tree," he pointed out with a smirk, "So I don't know how capable he is. It's probably gone over to another branch already."

He'd been about to make a similar comment about her boyfriend when Emmeline spoke to Amissa and she immediately squealed, "Toes!"

He couldn't exactly hide the grin. "She's more fond of her feet than my face, sad to say. I guess only my flesh and blood are immune to my charming features." Amissa giggled and reached one hand up to grab Bertram's ear in order to give it a rather hard jerk.

"Do you want another colour, princess?" She'd been using a green marker, but as soon as the opportunity had come up, "PINK!"

Bet you can't guess her favorite colour yet.

Emmeline sat back, pushing her hands into the grass watching the two with amusement. She had absolutely no idea how she would have reacted to having a child so young (which led to some sympathy to Gillian and Ingrid--but not much), but she would hope that she'd be able to handle it as well as Bertram seemed to be. Hell--she had no idea how she'd deal with kids ten years from now, but at the moment she was more focused on surviving this war than planning her future family.

"How's the summer been so far?" she asked, pulling at the grass between her fingers, "Other than becoming a living, breathing, piece of art?"

She still had a little more than a week before her internship started, so she was going to relax as much as possible, getting to see Caradoc and her friends before her life was dedicated to St. Mungo's.

"Honestly, I haven't been doing jack shit. I figure I should relax my ass off this summer in case I have to ... you know, get a job in the fall." Which implied that his mother was still making up her mind as to whether he was allowed to sit at home and play daddy or actually have to go and work. Bertram smirked and tapped Amissa on the nose.

"I'm thinking I should start up a daycare or some shit. You know it'd get me tail."

"Hitting on all the single mums dropping off their kids, lovely," Emmeline drawled, but not at all annoyed. She knew it was pointless to try and fight against Betram's naturally way, and in some weird, twisted sense of logic, she rather enjoyed having conversations with him. While the rest of her world was serious and bent on the destruction of the darkest wizard the wizarding world had ever seen, sitting in the park with Bertram was quite carefree and humorous.

"What's Dolohov going to think of that, though?"

As much as she hated to admit it, she was a bit interested in this little...thing, he had going on with Franziska. Not one of her favorite people in the world, but if she'd managed to keep Bertram's eyes from straying too long, there had to be something interesting about her, right?

Or she was just a fantastic shag, but Emmeline liked to think that Bertram had a bit more of a heart than that.

Bertram grinned easily when Emmeline brought up Franziska. He'd had enough of the blokes giving him a hard time about it that his speech was well-rehearsed when it came out. "Oh, Franzy and I both know that neither of us are going to change the way that we are for each other. Whatever happens, happens."

He waved a hand and then blinked when Amissa literally poked her fingers into the inside of her ear. She'd taken to that since she had discovered that putting fingers into things was better than just rubbing them over things. He yawned quietly and ran a hand through his hair. Okay, so babysitting his daughter was actually really tiring -- he'd never say so, though.
