[LYDIA]
Amery raised his eyebrows. He couldn't believe he had to go out of his way, clear an already busy schedule and postpone a rare social event he wanted to go to in order to pick up a package from Fenrir Greyback. This was ridiculous. There were tens of other people whose duties would actually include this. But it was "easiest" for him, so he went. Honestly, the people he'd need to see about this would get a couple of snapped fingers if he had much say (or action) in the matter.

"What you don't seem to understand, Mr. Greyback, is that I am exceedingly busy, and it would really behoove you to hurry," Amery called after a retreating figure in a bored tone. He'd give it a few minutes before taking necessary action to really speed up the process.

Sassy was Lydia's middle name. She hated to be ignored, and the fact that he was doing just that was both irritating and troublesome. "You must have a terrible memory if you've got to repeat that bit twice already." Yes, she was aware he'd probably heard things about her from Grayson.

John had never told her Grayson's whole family was handsome as he was -- how very rude of him. She ordered a drink for herself and resumed her seat at the bar, swirling the liquid absently.

"Not a terrible memory," he replied, finally tearing his eyes from the spot when he established that after a minute and a half Fenrir was no closer to reappearing. "Just that you haven't made much of a previous impression on it. Have we met before, out of curiosity?"

No matter what kind of model she was, it was pretty obvious why she was one, Amery decided. But damned if she didn't know it. He couldn't say he cared much for girls who knew they were attractive. But something had to be said for self-confidence and Lydia clearly didn't lack in that area.

"I don't imagine we have. I seem to recall hearing quite a bit about your brother, however." Whether she meant that as an implied 'but I haven't heard anything about you' was up for debate. Lydia took an idle sip of her drink and smiled thoughtfully.

"Then again, John never did talk about anyone but himself most of the time."

Of course. John Mulciber. The connection finally clicked. Come to think of it, he had heard Grayson and even John mention the name once or twice at least.

"Yes, well, knowing John, that's hardly surprising. And he also explains how you heard about my brother, no doubt." Charming character that he was. Not that Amery could say he was much better, but still.

He eyed her thoughtfully with the drink in her hand. He really didn't drink on business, but he was willing to bet it might be a while before Fenrir reared his head--no. No, it really wasn't worth drinking at the moment.

Despite wanting to think that he was exclusively looking at her, she'd seen his gaze catch on the glass. She turned her head lazily to the side so that she could speak to him, "The offer of a drink still stands, regardless of whether you think you're on 'business' or not."

Lydia suppressed the urge to smirk when Amery talked about his brother and John. She'd never quite forgiven John for choosing that wife of his over her, and she'd never been fond of Grayson ... so Amery could speak about them as he liked.

"I think we should at least wait a few more minutes before we give Mr. Greyback up for gone," he said in tones of derisive amusement, more at her wolf of a date than at her. At least, he assumed he was her date. Or "escort," if that were the term she preferred.

"Why are you hear with Fenrir, at any rate?"

She smirked. "Fenrir makes for ... interesting and eventful company, at any rate." And she had a nasty habit of picking up men who were awful for her on any given day. He was also a fantastic shag, though, when they got around to it.

Lydia shrugged easily. "And I think you of all people would know he's easy to manipulate with a little common sense."

"I doubt even the little common sense is needed." Well, perhaps that was uncalled for, but he couldn't help his opinion of the man, really.

Interesting company... he shouldn't doubt it for a second. He wondered what she meant exactly by "interesting company," but the eventful seemed fairly obvious with the few days in a month he wasn't a man. Although with Fenrir, those were starting to run closely together, in his opinion.

"I assume your being with him is due entirely to your choice?" She was, after all, slightly out of Fenrir's range.

"Entirely," she admitted readily enough. "Admittedly it was originally to frustrate some of my closer acquaintances." Now ... well, she wasn't entirely sure. He was handsome enough when he wasn't a toothy, growling bastard.

That wasn't all that often, though. She took another sip of her drink. "Is there a particular reason for your interest? I'm sure you're not concerned about me breaking the poor dear's heart." She hid a snicker behind one hand.

"Originally? As in, now that is no longer the case?" Well, that was interesting to say the least. And not altogether unlike a pity relationship. Interesting indeed. "As for my interest, well, I'm simply baffled as to how he manages to coexist with other people in such close quarters."

It actually did surprise him that she was still with him, if jealousy was the initial reasoning behind the coupling. Amery thought she could get any man she wanted, without a problem.

"Now it's regrettably routine." Not that she minded much -- there wasn't much consistency in her life and maybe she liked it now and again, all right? Lydia glanced down at her drink (it was draining alarmingly quickly) for a moment and shrugged her shoulders lightly. "All beasts can be tamed with the proper initiative," she reasoned in answer to his bafflement.

The way she was looking at Amery suggested perhaps she wasn't terribly committed to the wolf anyway.

"Regrettably routine... that's rather an interesting phrase." And more like negative connotations spouting everywhere. "As is proper initiative, I should say."

But the woman did speak with such heavy-handed word choice.

Leaning against the wall, he smirked. "Well, either way I must offer you my congratulations on putting up with him more than I would ever be able to. I don't suppose I've made my dislike for him a great secret."

Which, in other situations, could be construed as rude, but Amery didn't give a rat's arse whether or not he was in the bounds of propriety, and he had a feeling Lydia might not either. Terribly ironic, considering who was here with who.

Lydia didn't much like to waste time. She liked drugs, men, and modeling -- there was nothing secretive about her. She merely arched her brow when he leaned against the wall and insulted Fenrir.

"No, I suppose you haven't. I also can't say that I care much about your opinion, Mr. Wilkes." She glanced up to see Fenrir approaching the table again, looking distinctly grouchy. The woman nodded to the approaching figure.

"And I would suppose this means you're leaving. Do us both a favor and don't leave anything silly behind like a toe or a finger, if you please."

"You may not care for my opinion," he said, drumming his fingers on the wall before stepping away and watching Fenrir like a hawk. "But you can't deny it's right."

Plucking the package delicately from Fenrir's outstretched hand, he nodded curtly to them both. "Next time, Mr. Greyback, I suggest you keep packages of this important on your person at all times, or there won't be need for your services later."

He turned to Lydia with a sarcastic wave. "And Ms. Proudfoot, it's been an absolute delight."

With that, he turned on his foot and made his way out of the dark, dingy pub.
